"Feng you're going to squish him again," Ryu warned her.
Naida flopped her tail against her mother's belly as she giggled and wiggled, unlike Jair. She didn't mind being squished and she didn't have wings to make it problem.
"Because it is dangerous, and I know that," Feng murmured though she did ease up on the children, "The point is, you have to tell us when you're going, you can't just go."
Besides she wanted to take Naida at least to see Aliya, and how was she going to do that if her little one was going to go swimming off without warning?

Jair relaxed a bit and breathed more easily, though he was still trying to wiggle out of Feng's grip.
"Well now we know for next time," he muttered, squeezing out of her arms with an almost audible pop. "So next time, we will tell you when we're gonna go somewhere, okay? And then you can come with us and don't have to be worried."
He glanced over at his cousin as he swam over to float next to Ryu, where he felt safer. "Right, Naida?"

Naida nodded at this, that sounded reasonable enough to her. After all this was a big wide world and anything could happen to them since they were so small compared to her mama and her uncle.
"Don't worry Mama, next time we'll say something," Naida smiled up at Feng, "Can we go play now? Jair found this shiny thing."

Jair's eyes lit up once more at the reminder of the golden item they had found, and he nodded vigorously at Feng, his black braid bobbing up and down in the water.
"Yes, we did!" he exclaimed excitedly. "Show it to her, Naida! Show her show her! I bet she knows what it is!"

Naida lifted up for her mama to see, the shiny round object that had been found. It was of sparkling gold, though had a bit of dirt on it still, and had a picture engraved on both sides.
Feng looked down and looked at it in surprised, since she wasn't sure how it got to the bottom of the river in the first place.
Maybe one of the other Seconds dropped it.
"It's a coin," Feng explained, "Used to buy things."

Jair blinked. "Coin?" he repeated, cocking his head to one side, confused. "Buy?"
He of course didn't know either of those terms, though it was never too early to be acquainted with them.

It was Ryu who explained the concept of buying, "Back home, there are things that we want or need that we can't make or grow ourselves, but other people do it. We buy those things that people make or grow by giving them money, which come often in the form of coins. So for exchange for what we need we give them coin, and that is buying, and that is what a coin is for."
Of course the rest of it was a bit more complicated but that was hard to explain.

"Oh," Jair murmured thoughtfully, staring at the coin with a pensive look in his eyes.
Suddenly he grinned.
"There you go, Naida!" he exclaimed happily. "Once Aunt Feng takes you back home, you already have a coin that you can buy things with!"
And he clapped his hands excitedly for her.

Naida smiled cuddling the coin close, what an exciting thought, she wondered what she could get with the coin? Though Feng knew it probably wouldn't be much, she didn't say anything about that to her daughter.
"Are coins normally found at the bottom of the river?" she asked innocently.
Ryu shook his head, "No... not normally no. It must have been dropped here or somewhere and then ended up here."

The fact that finding a coin there was rare did nothing to curb Jair's enthusiasm: on the contrary, it seemed only to excite him.
"Maybe we can find more!" he exclaimed enthusiastically. "Or maybe we can find different shiny things! Come on, Uncle Ryu! Let's go look!"
And he grabbed Ryu's hand and tried to drag his uncle closer to the bottom of the river, though he wasn't strong enough to pull his adult uncle even just a little bit.

Ryu chuckled at Jair's eagerness, he did wish Celebor was around. Then they could introduce the two brothers. Honestly, Jair was a lot like Celebor... only a mer... and younger... when Celebor was much younger.
"Take it easy," Ryu smiled, "We'll all go looking for more shiny things okay?"
He glanced at his sister not sure how she would react to something like that. These days it was hard to tell what was going through her mind.
"Right," Feng grinned acting more like herself.

"Yesss!" Jair grinned, fists at his sides in victory. "Come on, come on, let's go let's go let's go!" And he giggled and shot off through the water, bubbles streaming behind him in his haste.
This was turning out to be a really really really good day for him - such a good way to start his life. Meeting others like him, plus his Mommy, plus being able to visit such fun places, and being able to do such fun things with fun people ...

Feng giggled as she let go of Naida and let the merchild go on ahead following right after her along with her brother. They all made their way to the bottom of the river.
Naida hurried along to catch up with Jair, though hurrying to the bottom of the river was a bit easier for her seeing as she had that whole weight of hair dragging her down.

Jair grinned at Naida, then turned his attention back to the bottom of the river.
"Do you see anything else shiny?" he asked eagerly, looking around. Unfortunately, he could see nothing but mud at the moment ...

Naida frowned slightly and shook her head, "No... nothing shiny... at least I think..."
Feng floated beside Jair for a moment and reached down to brush against the dirt lightly, "Sometimes the stuff from the river buries the shiny things, so you have to move stuff around a bit."
