Hawk_McKrakken I've seen Afrikaans.. pretty interesting to know that cultured Africans speak a language other than their given French. xp Just wanted to point out that Afrikaans is mainly spoken in South Africa and Nambia. Because of the Dutch East India Company, the Dutch took over the Cape of Good Hope and that's where Afrikaans originated from. It is one of eleven official languages of South Africa. *ends shortened history lesson >.>* Ik ben Amerikaans. In 2002 ik gewoont in Zuidlaren (dichtbij Groningen) voor een jaar. Mijn Nederlands is heele slecht omdat iedereen het Engels aan me spraken. Ik kan lezen meer dan ik kan spreken of schrijven. So please excuse any mistakes. biggrin

So I just got Omar Rodriguez's new solo album, and it turns out he recorded it in Amsterdam with a bunch of his Dutch friends, and the song titles are all in Dutch! I'm curious as to what they mean. Would anyone be interested in translating? This is the the tracklist: Een ode aan Ed van Der Elsken Regenbogen stelen van prostituees Jacob Van Lennepkade Vondelpark bij nacht Spookrijden op het fietspad Thanks in advance! biggrin

Since that message was posted a while ago I'm not sure if you still need them, but.. Here they are translated:
An ode to Ed van der Elsken - Ed van der Elsken is a name whee
Stealing rainbows from prostitutes
Jacob van Lennepkade - now, I'm not sure about this one. Jacob is definitely a name, 'van Lennepkade' could be the rest of his name or it could have the meaning 'from the Lennep-dock'. Since the song title doesn't have "de" in it, which means "the" and is rather necessary for signifying Jacob is from the Lennep-dock as opposed to his name being Jacob van Lennepkade.. I'm going to have to assume the song title is just Jacob van Lennepkade's name.
Vondelpark by night - the Vondelpark being a rather large, beautiful park in Amsterdam. If you're ever there in the summer, I suggest going to visit it.
Cycling the wrong way on a cycling lane - wow, spookrijden certainly was a challenge to translate. Literally it means ghost riding, but I'm quite sure that's not proper English. sweatdrop Perhaps a clearer translation would've been cycling in the wrong direction.. Mm.
