Hey...Would you Portuguese-speakers/learners help me with something?

I'd like to have a couple of songs translated, or at least told what they are about. I wouldn't ask this about just any random songs, but these were done by a friend of mine and are important to me.

The songs can be heard here, and the ones I'm asking about are "Estrela" and "Olhe por Nós" and any of the other ones in Portuguese that you wouldn't mind listening to. Thanks.

cooch-

Estrela - Star

Estrela - Star,
Estrela - Star,
Como ser assim - How to be like that?
Tão so - So lonely,
Tão so - So lonely,
E nunca sofrer - And never suffer.
Brilhar - Shine,
Brilhar - Shine,
Quase sem quere - Almost without meaning/wanting to.
Deixa - Let it,
Deixa - Let it,
Ser o que se é - Be what it is.
No corpo nu da contelação - In the naked body of the constellation,
Estás - You are,
Estás - You are,
Em uma das mãos - In one of the hands.
E vais - And you go,
E vens - And you come,
Como um lampião - Like a lamp,
Ao vento frio - To the cold wind,
De um lugar qualquer - From some place.
È bom - It's good,
Saber - To know,
Que és parte de mim - That you are a part of me.
Assim como és - Just like you are,
Parte das manhãs - Part of the mornings.
Melhor - It's even better,
Melhor - It's even better,
Poder gozar - Being able to enjoy,
Da paz - The peace,
Da paz - The peace,
Que trazeis aqui - That you bring here.
Eu canto - I sing,
Eu canto - I sing,
Por poder te ver - Because I can see you.
No ceu - In the sky,
No ceu - In the sky,
Como um balão - Like a baloon. (probably refers to a hot air baloon)
Eu canto e sei-o - I sing and I know,
Que também me vês - That you can also see me.
Aqui - Here,
Aqui - Here,
Com esta canção - With this song.

I'll translate "Olhe por nós" asap. I'm having a little trouble with some verses sweatdrop Maybe it'll be better if one of the brazilian menbers does it confused

However, I can tell it's about a city that was ruined by it's mayor, and the singer is saying that he'll never vote in him again, and when they reach the power, they'll rebuild and improve it.

Hi there, I'm from Portugal biggrin if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I wonder why there aren't many Portugal threads in this guild... confused

Gosh, I wish I could take a Portuguese (specifically that spoken in Brazil) in my area. I would in a heartbeat, since that's where I plan on going when I'm out of high school and college, to study the life in the rain forest.

Ola! Vejo que este "thread" está vazio, mas quero saber si alguem pode enseinar-me a falar português. Minha melhor amiga é brasiliera, portanto eu compreendo um poco, mas ela é má professora e eu preciso de um professor sério. ^^;

---

From what I can tell, you're doing very nicely! Spelling seems to be your major issue, but it's nothing some practice won't solve. I'm afraid I wouldn't be much of a teacher either, but whenever you want to practice or something, please, do use your PM - I'm at your disposal. I'll be glad to correct any mistakes and perhaps give you some useful tips! wink

I make mine PadawanCyn's words!
You construct sentences well, but need some more work in spelling. smile
If you have any doubt, feel free to ask me too! I don't know if I would be a good teacher, for the same reason of Padawan: I wouldn't know where to start from sweatdrop But if you have something to ask, I'll be glad in helping you 3nodding

Here's "Olhe Por Nós"

Olhe por nós
Disse que ia mudar e mudou
Não fez nada e só piorou

De santo tu se fez
Agora em ti a gente não vota outra vez

Pra piorar
até governador tu quer virar
Para o Rio Grande governar
E tu poder se aproveitar
Mas eu não vou deixar

Vou pegar foguetes e bandeiras
A gaúcha brasileira
Mas em ti não voto mais

Vou pegar foguetes e bandeiras
A gaúcha brasileira
Mas em ti não voto mais

E quando nós chegamos no poder
A mudança assim se fez
Melhoramos a cidade

E agora tão jogando tudo fora
Uma cidade assim demora pra reconstruir

E agora tão jogando tudo fora
Uma cidade assim demora pra reconstruir

Mas a gente vai conseguir

Look out for us
You said you would change, and you did
You did nothing, and only made it worse

Disguised yourself as a saint
Now we won't vote in you again

And to make it worse
You want even to be the Governor
To rule Rio Grande
[Rio Grande do Sul is a Brazilian state]
And take advantage of it
But I won't let you

I'll take fireworks and flags
The Brazilian "gaúcha"
["gaúcha" is the adjective, in the feminine form, for who is born in Rio Grande do Sul - I really don't know what he wanted to say with that. Maybe he wanted to "unite" the people of the state?]
But I won't vote in you anymore

I'll take fireworks and flags
The Brazilian "gaúcha"
But I won't vote in you anymore

When we took over
The changes had been made
We made the city better

And now it's all being wasted
A city like this takes so much time to rebuild

And now it's all being wasted
A city like this takes so much time to rebuild

But we will make it

I hope it's fully understandable... post any doubt you have! biggrin

Spoken in: Angola, Andorra, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea Bissau, Luxembourg, Macao S.A.R. of China, Mozambique, Namibia, Paraguay, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, and other countries.

As far as I know, Portuguese is not an official language of Luxembourg, Namibia or Paraguay... o_o

@Hermonie: Sorry, I can't help you. I never needed to use that sort of books for Portuguese, so I don't know of any...

^^ Just started learning Portuguese. I mostly studied Japanese before, so I was used to having a lot of resources to learn from (books (went on a trip to Japan and visited a bookstore), anime, the increasing amount of Japanese spoken on the internet, imported video games, etc.), but I'm a bit lost as to where I might find such resources for Portuguese. It doesn't strike me as a common language that one can find here in the US, or by importing things we usually buy anyway.

What do you guys use other than study books?
