Natamo stretched after a short catnap - she'd seen lion-girl and Baki fetching limestone from the waterfall, and was slightly impressed. However, she'd come back with a prize of her own from the war which was much more hard won. Shame she didn't actually have a fondness for skulls in any way, but she did have an idea of who'd like it. Getting up from the hammock she'd strung together and hefted the giant skull from her Orochi opponent onto her shoulder. Grunting, she realized that without adrenaline the damn thing was a lot heavier than she'd thought. Holy s**t - her shoulder was going to ache. Thank god that savage's hut wasn't too far down the shoreline. With luck she'd just dump it and go on her way.

Frustrated, the animal trainer returned to the lagoon, rubbing her jaw. Damn that Dhan...vicious beast, and yet she couldn't help but obsess over him more. She smiled at the thought, and shook her head. Always eager to get into dangerous situations...soon, she would leave. Shimagakure had a plethora of small animals she could tame, a number of larger felines she could get her hands on. None what she wanted, she decided to think more about it in the morning...

----

Natamo awoke, somewhat groggy and unable to open her mouth for a few minutes. Oh dammit...she groaned, rubbing her jaw gently, and groaning again when she realized it was slightly swollen. Great...well, now she had reason to hide out in the lagoon. She rolled out of her hammock and washed her face gently with the icy water from the lagoon...before it registered that the ground was covered in white. Well, not all the ground, just patches where the trees didn't form a canopy to protect the ground below. Because she had slung her hammock between two large, leafy trees, she hadn't been touched during the night, but it was strange to see snow on a small tropical isle...granted, it was barely a centimeter or two thick, so it wasn't much of a snowfall, but still. Natamo could see tracks going every which way in the small patches of snow around the lagoon, and chuckled. Animals in other parts of the island, where the snow would be more open to fall, would be easy targets today.

It was close to noon...

And Natamo was bored. Nursing her jaw would only entertain her for so long. Touching it gently again, she stood and dusted her shoulders off, her boots leaving prints in the snow as obvious as the bruise on her face. With a soft chuckle, she pressed her hands into her hair, the snow there clinging a little more harshly than it had to her leather-covered body. With a shrug, Natamo debated actually getting winter clothing. It was, after all, excessively cold to be wearing leather. Still...

She was bored. And it being thus, Natamo decided she was going to go to the academy. She hadn't noted any new students with pets, and wondered idly if any shinobi still fought with them. In the spring...she would go see her old mentor and drag some urban myths out of the man. For now, she would be content with helping out around the island.

[ Day four yay~ ]

Natamo awoke, slightly groggy but mostly hungry. She would catch something today! She swung her legs over the side of the hammock, snorting at the snow. Damn snow... Oh well. With a length of rope, the woman headed into the forest that was at the edge of the lagoon. Far enough in, it turned into the Forest of Sorrows, which wasn't a half bad place to catch her meals. Sometimes she'd end up with a runty dinner, but it was better than nothing. With that, Natamo set up a trap under a promising tree, close to a small pool of fresh water. Animals would use it, so there was a guarantee of a meal today. The other puddles that were usually around the forest had thin films of ice over them, and Natamo had made sure to crack the ice over this one so that it would be easier to catch anything that came to check and found it unfrozen. With a smile, the woman crept back towards the lagoon, deciding that she would give it an hour before coming back to check on how her breakfast was coming along. Maybe she could go fishing...after all, she should probably have some back up...

Ai's tiny legs had kept her going for little more than an hour before she grew tired and needed her rest. Her small chest was heaving and her tongue hung from the side of her mouth as she panted. The tiny wolf needed something to drink, that was for sure. She knew there was a source of water around here somewhere her mother had brought her and her littermates before. Soon enough, the iced over pool of water came into her vision and she pranced her way over to get her well needed drink. Sad for the wolf pup, she wasn't able to get it before having her leg caught in a trap. A sharp yelp came from the wolf before it turned into a useless growl. From such a tiny animal it seemed nothing more than amusing, but Ai was irritated beyond belief. Who in their right mind would put a trap where she, her of all wolves, could get caught?! She was much better than these stupid deer and things, why would someone ever want to catch her? Sitting and bringing her caught leg up to where she could see, she started to chew on the rope that held her foot in place, but it was useless, her teeth weren't mature enough to do any real damage to the rope. Another angry growl came from the tiny little being's throat as she got up and tried to leap away, only to be pulled back and down onto her backside.

[ Lol...hour went by fast lol ]

Natamo returned to her trap, hearing growls and the like coming from it. Oh great - she hadn't caught herself dinner after all. With a sigh, she went to release whatever she had caught, and then when she spotted a dark furball with blazing eyes, she changed her mind. She could train this pup, and then have it partner one of the kids of the village...or if none of them wanted to partner, the pup could be a guard. Picking up the pup by its scruff, Natamo untied its leg...her leg, she noted...and tucked the furball into the crook of her arm. She started walking back to the lagoon, already wondering who to give the pup to, or at least, make the offer. Perchance one of the girls, since this was a female pup...though, the lion-girl did just fine with a male partner. Hm.. Natamo lost herself in thought while she wandered, quietly murmuring random words to the pup to try and keep her ... calm.

(Hehehe, yep XD )

Ai backed away from the tall figure coming up quick on her and growled as viciously as she could at the human. Humans were bad things and it was best to keep far from them. The pup snaped at the tall figure as she untied her leg and held her. She got an ok bite on her arm, though it would probably feel like more of a pinch than anything with the tiny creatures puppy teeth. Ai didn't want to be carried or even touched by the woman. She didn't want to smell like an icky human of all things! Her lips pulled back over her tiny teeth as she growled and nipped at the woman's arms again. Who did she think she was that she could just pick up a wolf pup as though she were nothing but a fuzzy hand bag!? Ai continuously growled at the older woman with as much of a threatening manner as possible so she'd drop the wolf and she could run free on her own. Perhaps she could bite her enough that the human would release her from irritation? What was even more annoying was the fact the woman kept talking to her. Why would she want to speak to a wolf anyways? When Ai got the perfect chance, she jumped up and nicked the bottom of Natamo's jaw with her tiny teeth. Ai would probably be nothing more than a major annoyance to the woman, but it didn't matter, it would do its job!
PostPosted: Tue Dec 02, 2008 5:37 pm

Natamo jerked her head back and rubbed her jaw, growling back at the pup. She glared down at it, and shook her head. "Trouble maker, aren't you? Aiii...heh, that's a good name for you, haha...er-hem, anyway! Look here, kiddo, YOU got stuck in my trap, so hush!" Natamo reached up to tie the pup's mouth with a leather thong, not wanting any more annoying noises. She definitely didn't want to train this little monster...though she wouldn't mind helping someone else who wanted it. She considered it again though...the little fuzzball was hard to handle. She wondered where Shinichi might be, maybe he needed a new hat. Or a small butt-pillow, that would work too. The pup was too small for anything other than small accessories...

(...Handle animal too high for anything I have >.>''')

Ai continued her growling as the woman spoke to her. Though it was abuptly ended when she tied her jaw closed. The pup strugged and whined in irritation at the string around her mouth keeping her from voicing her displeasure. Well, the wolf was refused her right to use her mouth, but the little girl could defintely scratch the woman with its claws. Ai struggled and let her miniature claws to scratch at the woman's skin. Her attempt to climb up the woman's shirt to get at her chest and upper arms wasn't going to well though, she was held in a way she couldn't do what she wanted. When Ai realized there was nothing she could do in the position the human had put her in, she whined and whined and whined every now and then gave a bit of a wiggle, but no more real attempt was given for her escape. She'd wait to see what the horrible person had in plans for her before she'd waste any more energy on escaping.

With a small inner smirk to himself, Shisei entered into the lagoon. No one was there yet, which gave him some time to finish up on his training. He did not see the others on his way to the lagoon, but if they went to the village they’d know where to find him. No doubt the crow would follow him. He had questioned Shisei before the two walked away from one another. About his objective. There was much the serpent needed to accomplish for his objective, but there would be no need to go through that entire story. Once Xyn arrived, the serpent youth would need to find out more about him. Although things are becoming much harder to influence now. The small frame stretched out in the push up like position with his spine stiff. He continued to hold the position like last time counting the numbers in his head. “Five… six…. Seven.”. Soon the peace would be interrupted so he took in as much of it as he could.

"I wonder why he wants us here," Orika commented as she hopped into the lagoon, looking around to try and spot sporting equipment. Of course, the village was poor and couldn't afford proper equipment like in the mainland. If one wanted to play soccer in Shima, one had to use an old rubber ball and shoes as goalposts. Oh, well. As long as they still had fun, it didn't matter. Orika spotted Shisei and hesitated before walking up to him with a smile. She hated that b*****d so much, but what good would it be to remind him of that fact over and over again? He'd think she was desperate for his attention or something. "So..." the girl muttered, not sure what to say to her rival. It suddenly occurred to her that the sports festival could be a way to show Shisei that he wasn't the best at everything. Oh, but that went contrary to what Shinichi just said, that this was a celebration and for amusement, not for putting people down. Well, feelings were bound to get hurt when competition was involved. What could she do about it? Speaking of feelings, she was feeling and urge to push the boy over while he was in such a vulnerable position. Instead Orika took a deep breath and took a relaxed seat next to him. "I bet you can't stay like that for 10 minutes on end," she taunted with a smirk.

Shisei enjoyed the peace of the lagoon with only a few birds and insects making noise. He heard the small footsteps of someone approaching from behind. He had expected it to be the poetic raven to have followed, but once the voice became known to the world the serpent youth was surprised it was the energy bunny. “Hmm. Maya’s boy did not pursue. Interesting…” the loner thought. Although it could be another interesting fact that Orika was the first person to find the youth, although Shisei did not pick up on that. He did not pay much attention to Orika’s presence and continued to hold his position. “One eleven… one twelve… one thirteen…”. Each passing second was becoming harder and harder to maintain the pose. He could feel a small bead of sweat trickled from his chin onto a piece of the scarf below him. Soon his body would be wobbling maintaining a stiff frame would be hard as differential equations. Not that the serpent youth could do differential equations. He was still a few years off of that. Shiu would probably get it quicker than him. The younger snake had a knack for math. Or at least Shisei thought. He couldn’t really remember.

His thoughts were slightly diverted by the girl’s voice. A challenge? Ten minutes. Fine. He would do it. The boy was planning to stop at three minutes. Yet he’d push himself. If anything to just see how much further than ten minutes he could go. With each tens of seconds though the challenge increased in a significant magnitude. Shisei made a valiant attempt, but once he reached 6:01.28 seconds, his legs failed under him. The dread head stared at the snow littered floor for a few seconds before saying anything. “Only six minutes. You are correct. I could not hold it for ten minutes.” The child stated and returned to his feet. He returned to his feet and turned away from Orika. There was still something else he could do while there was a moment to wait.

Once the boy returned to his feet, he dusted his knees, elbows and scarf. The others still were taking their time which still left a few minutes of tranquility. Two fingers over the other two, another two extended and the right thumb extended upwards. As much as Shisei was using hitsuji the ram, this would probably be his favorite seal. His mind began to ponder what else he could do with this seal. Once he could learn jutsu then its potential would be unlocked. The serpent youth could not wait for that day. Chakra was already an amazing thing to play with. Each time his body began to toy with it like some type of action figure, it became easier to control. One day the silent viper would like to use his chakra to form jutsu similar to the ones his mother had told him of. Those of people being able to make a scar in the earth, breathe fire or call upon tsunamis, evoke twisters and even manipulate lightning from the heavens. And even other techniques like that man used. The anticipation of this was enough to get the youth’s aura bursting out from his body. The energy coiled around him starting from his feet in three different tendrils. The blue aura was soon around him making a small tint of blue on the youth’s skin. His dreads began moving with the flow of energy rather than the wind. Then the energy slowly moved from the top of his body and began gathering within his stomach. Soon the entire glow of energy was centered at his tummy for a few seconds until Shisei released his fingers. The energy quickly evaporated after.

In actuality, she had just made up a random number, for what did the girl know about the strange exercise Shisei was attempting? "You still did pretty good," she said with a small, hopefully not fake smile. It was a weird feeling, that half of her imagined herself driving a stake through the vampire's heart (because he sucked the energy of those around him... and sucked in general), but the other half didn't want to waste the immense amount of energy needed to keep up a stream of those images. She wondered how Shisei did it, hated everybody, that was. He seemed to teeter on a precarious balance of apathy and violent hatred and since the girl couldn't be apathetic to save her young life, the only way to step into Shisei's shoes was to invoke a desire to inflict pain upon everyone for the littlest wrong. Or, could it be that she didn't understand him yet? Orika hummed to herself as she pondered this query over and over again. Boy with supposedly tragic past. A god complex. Complete disregard for others except when it benefits him. Hardcore cynic. He was, in short, fascinating, especially in how Shisei affected her. Besides the multiple death threats and general unpleasantness, he didn't try to kill her like Tanu attempted with several students and he never physically hurt her. It was a startling revelation and Orika recoiled by biting her lip. Did she have a right to hate him? "You said an hour ago that you feel nothing for me," Orika said after the silence between them got too lingered on too long, "That I wasn't as important a target as Tanu. Well, I had class with her and I can't see what the big deal is. She's just another kid with a bad temper. There're plenty of those. She kept saying she would hurt me, but nothing's come out and I'm starting to believe she can't do a thing. And besides, we've gotten a lot stronger training with Maya, don't you think? What have you got to fear from another spoiled academy student? I mean, what does she have that I don't? I'm not asking for you to hate me; Your actions are just sooo confusing."

The quick burst of energy and manipulation of it made the snake back peddle into a tree. He did not hit it hard and could have easily recovered, but the youth decided to let his body slump to the cold snowy floor. His gaze peered up into the trees while one leaf slowly drifted into the air until it came to a soft landing upon the tip of the boy’s nose. The gold orbs and black slits turned to stare at the blade of lead upon the skin. His mind drifted off into the peacefulness of the woods as his eyes became almost hypnotized by the green paper on his snout. “What to do now…” his mind thought. It wasn’t a question that meant what would be his next training exercise or even what he would do for the rest of the day. It was just a question he asked himself about life in general. The dread head was beginning to find his self taking more steps backwards than forwards. Just like the dream from days before. It seemed like everyone around him were chains slowly drowning him while that person just watched him slowly suffocate under a crimson sea. “What do I do…”. The eyes remained focused on the leaf as if awaiting an answer from it.

Shisei was expecting the silence to be broken by the merry band that would soon be entering the forest. His ears were not expecting it to be Orika. There relationship was one of silence unless she wanted to annoy him. Yet her tone was gentle with… a smile? The gold eye turned slightly to the tanned diva who gave a small smile. “What is she up to…” He thought. “No. It was pathetic. I should have made it to ten minutes. I’ll have to work on that in the future.” his lips said carefully trying to keep the leaf upon his nose. The silence resumed until the teen made her voice known to the area again. She was oddly talkative to him all of a sudden, which was beginning to perplex the snake youth. Maybe she was just someone who hated silence? It would not be the first person that Shisei had met so. There once was a priest who could not shut the hell up and if he was alone he’d talk to one of the holy statues. The rest of that story though would be for another time.

Shisei blew air from his lips, sending the leaf floating above his head. The gold eyes remained fixed on it, but his mouth would answer the farmer’s question. “It is correct. I did say that a while ago.” he started. There was nothing to fear in it. The maverick would actually do something rare and let his brain go unfiltered with his thought process on the question. For his attention was divided between her and the leaf. “Are you looking for my attention? Well I suppose I can answer that question. There isn’t any harm in who knows or who doesn’t. Why do I hate Tanu-kun?” the youth let his words drift out pondering the question. Why did he dislike that person so much… his brain began to speak on its own at that point. “…Why do I. I guess the simple answer would be because she dominated and embarrassed me in front of everyone. Yet I guess you want a better answer. Maybe it’s because of those grotesque red eyes. They remind me of someone else. Maybe it is because she was the first one to beat me here. Perhaps I just don’t like her or maybe I just don't like people that are that similar to me or it could be a combination of all of those.”

The leaf fell into the snow and Shisei began to push his finger into the green blade and draw something into the snow. “As for what she has that you don’t…hmm…Tanu-kun is different. We both are. I’m not a hundred percent sure because we’ve only had one encounter, but I think we both are more similar than most here. At least everyone in the academy. Our motivations are different, but we have that cold ruthlessness. To not let anything stop us regardless of the situation. Alone, but still grows stronger. It is the first I’ve met someone that close to my age so. Maybe I’m just selfish enough that I don’t like having someone else around with that type merciless behavior besides myself. So if you can understand what I’ve said, those are my reasons.”

The youth had finished drawing a picture in the snow with the leaf, but quickly erased it. It wasn’t important. “Or perhaps you are right and I’m giving too much attention to that little imp. Maybe I should give you more attention. After all statistically, I could not beat you or Tanu-kun. Yet that imp defeated me and you defeated both Karite and I. So technically I guess you are the strongest in the academy.” the child ended his speech boldly without any decrease or increase in his vocals. He allowed his finger on the leaf to draw a circle in the snow while his other hand pushed against the side of his cheek. His knee supported the elbow of that hand almost giving Shisei a bored and pouty look. Perhaps it would be that type of look if his eyes weren’t so impassive and staring at the leaf.
