Vash has many secrets of his own, as well. And would be just as reluctant to divulge them. It was painful enough just hearing the word July, but what would Wolfwood think if he confessed to being the sole cause of that calamity...? That he was responsible for millions of deaths in a single instant? Shuddering, he bit his lip as he looked away. No. Not now. He still had things to do.

A bland smile to make up for looking away. "Mmm, I guess." He assumed that something similar would be Rem's late husband. He'd been her inspiration to join the colonization ships.

"What're you doing?" He cocked his head to the side, "Fire ants biting you?"

"No," Wolfwood snapped, "I'm currently learning that pockets without paws are a pain in the a-- Aha!" Triumphantly he flicked a cigarette out of his pocket and pounced on it, using his paws to raise the filter end up and into the air. He bit down on it, relaxing. "There we go. I just had a bad craving. I'd rather not walk with the jitters. C'mon."

Wolfwood began walking again, pleased that he had a cigarette. Sure it was wrinkled and looked like he grabbed it from someone else, but what mattered was that it was his. At least it was unlit -- Wolfwood made a note to light it later, but holding it and breathing in its unlit scent was enough to calm him down and drive those memories away.

"So what else is at this HQ, aside from free stuff and other people?" He changed the topic, swishing his tails from side to side. "Any cute girls?"

Vash merely sighed, "You look ridiculous. Like some sort of drunk." Those jitters hadn't been from a cigarette craving - he'd seen Wolfwood on a nicotene fit before. Ah well, maybe they'd get to it over drinks then.

"Cute girls...?" He pondered, "Yes... and no. Mostly kids, haven't seen many women. It's sad..." He pouted, remembering when he'd actually feigned injury to try ask a girl out and it had fallen on deaf ears.

As he trailed off, the HQ came into view, the large complex looming before them. It was kitsu friendly and Vash hurried up his step, "There's a jukebox, and pool tables and lots of other things, probably. I haven't seen all of it." The jukebox would be nice. He loved music.

Wolfwood rolled his eyes and wrinkled his muzzle at Vash. He couldn't stick his tongue out at him at the risk of losing a cigarette, so that would have to do. At least he managed to dodge that question, and cover his action. The thought of him being here was enough to make Wolfwood smoke several cartons of cigarettes while clutching his gun. But how would that happen, with his lack of thumbs?

He forced himself into the present, chuckling at Vash's expression. "Ah, well, you win some and you lose some. But... there's kids here?" He brightened up, ignoring the growing ache in his heart about the orphanage he left behind. "I wonder if they're anything like the kids back home," he mused, stopping short to gaze up at the HQ. He let out a low whistle, sitting back on his haunches and ducking his head to drop the cigarette back into this pocket. It wouldn't do good to see a no smoking sign, right?

"Music, huh? I wonder if it plays anything good..." He followed Vash, lengthening his stride to match him while looking around with wide eyes.

"You... can smoke if you want to, there's no rule against that." Vash answered as soon as Wolfwood had returned the cigarette to his pocket - a conveniently timed bit of information. "I think so. Some things I've never heard before but good enough." He laughed, "It's not organ music though, so I don't know if you'll like any."

Upon entering the HQ, the red-clad kitsu quickly disappeared down a hall and into a room where a warm light spilled out the doorway. "Hey, Wolfie~" He called, mouth full of handle at the moment as he pulled open the cabinet that hid all the liqour. Licking his chops to get rid of the metallic taste, he glanced over the selection, "Whaddya want?" Vash was up on one of the counters, balancing precariously on hind legs, wings fluttering as he balanced.

Wolfwood shot Vash an annoyed look, but continued moving on. He can always fish it out again later. He snorted, "Where in the blazes did you get an idea that I was into that kind of stuff? I'm a wandering priest. How many times have you seen me walk into God's house and listen to the music in His name, hm?" Granted, the last "music" he ever heard in a Church was his own raspy breathing and the soft pitter-patter of his --

Wolfwood shook his head, forcing those last moments away. He can dwell on the past later, but now he and Vash were in Unknown Territory. Who knew who or what awaited them?

He followed Vash as he scampered ahead at a slower pace, taking his time to get used to the area until -- what, what did he just call him? He stopped in shock, surprised that Vash knew that nickname that Milly had called him. Oh, Milly.,.. Where are you now? He wondered, shaking his head and continuing to where Vash was. He made it as far as the doorway before he stopped, staring at the treasure Vash uncovered, "This has got to be an illusion," he said, walking forward to examine the bottles. "Well I'll be. I'll take that one next to your paw, in the green bottle as long as it's not poison."

He was about to say something more when it struck him how odd Vash looked on his two legs. It didn't seem that long ago that he too was on two legs like that, but to see it in this form... He couldn't help but to chuckle.

"Isn't it technically all poison?" Vash quipped as he mouthed the bottle and dropped to all fours to set it on the counter before rising to grab a few more bottles. "None of it has any warning symbols on it so it's fine." He nodded helpfully as he he stuck two bottles in his bag with the half-empty one and hopped onto the ground. "What's so funny?" He tilted his head, eyeing the man for a moment.

"Donuts...." He murmured as he sniffed around, the very tip of his muzzle twitching. "Oh!" Pausing in front of another cabinet, he pawed it open and dragged out a container of miniature donuts covered in glaze. "Hee~" Happily, he picked them up and eyed Wolfwood, "Zatwhey." He nodded in the direction of the hallway and then jerked his head to the right.

"Don't ask stupid questions, it'll all for a good cause!" Wolfwood replied cheerfully, dipping one shoulder against the cabinets before beginning to extract himself out of his cross. "And if you wanna know... Well, y'know how weird you look on two legs, goofball?"

Out of his cross, Wolfwood stretched and slowly flexed his wings, breathing in a sigh of relief. How strange, he thought. He never noticed how heavy the cross was before, but now... Wolfwood figured he'd get used to it in time -- it was the same weight, but it was spread out differently on his body, on parts that weren't used to it.

Wolfwood groaned, stepping into his cross and heaving it up again. "Ugh, why don't you give me a warning next time? Now I have to pick this up again," he shifted the cross again, trying to get it comfortable before heading out and into the hallway in the intended direction. So this room had the booze... He made a note of it for next time, or later -- depending on which came first.

"Aye dun luk whared on who hegs!" He attemped to speak, but it wasn't working too well, "Nah mah faut hyoo hut it hown." These donuts were really getting in the way... Looking down his nose at him, he sighed and hurried up.

Down the hallway, left and then right. There, an old jukebox sat, an oddly familiar instrument in an unfamiliar world. Trotting over to the table, he reared up and put it on the surface, working his jaw for a moment before glancing at Wolfwood, "Now you can set it down. Unless you want to dance with it or something."

Moving over to the jukebox, he fumbled with the push-button controls for a moment but chose a few tracks that he liked... and immediately turned up the volume as they started playing. "Like old times." He said as he hopped up on a bench and set out their poisons of choice. No point for glasses.

Uncorking the half-full bottle, he raised a paw in toast, "Cheers~" A few chugs on the bottle and a satisfied 'aaah' afterwards.

Wolfwood laughed, shaking his head and leaning the cross against a wall, slipping out of it again. He went to the table where Vash placed the donuts, settling himself in and watching in amusement.

When the music came on, Wolfwood flinched, jumping at the sound. "Whoa! I've forgotten how sharp these ears are," he lowered his head and used a paw to rub at one, grinning ruefully at Vash when he joined him.

He uncoked his bottle of choice, nodding in agreement and raising his paw in mimickry. "Cheers indeed! Pity there's no barkeep, we'll probably be making several trips from here to the pantry and back," he joked, grabbing his own bottle and taking his time with his drink. When he set his bottle down, he licked his chops. It was... different, but hey -- booze was booze, and it was better than nothing. "How'd you find out about this place?" He asked, taking another drink soon after.

"Followed the flow of people... it's a hub of activity." He nodded and sipped his drink more slowly. A toast must always be chugged but anything else needed to be savoured. Besides they had something to celebrate - Wolfwood's appearance meant a familiar face for the both of them. His bobbed to the music and sang along to the music. "Are you going to set up a church here? Or something else?"

Vash was curious as to what the Priest might do now... this world was so different from their own, "What about your confessional thing? That should go to good use." A sage nod as he took another sip.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 02, 2008 11:00 pm

"Ahh, I see," Wolfwood said after he lowered the bottle. That was something he should do -- go out, mingle, and adjust. After all, there had to be a reason he was here, right?

At Vash suggestion, Wolfwood laughed. "Me, a wanderer settling down? A church isn't my kind of thing." Then again, was he a wanderer by choice, or by duty? He helped an orphanage, to be sure, but he was -- no, used to be a member of a gun-slinging gang. What could he do with that kind of a background?

But... Settling down wouldn't hurt, if just to try it out. "I dunno, Vash. I'm not exactly a model holy man. I can't exactly go back to wandering considering how different this place is, y'know?"

The mention of the confessional gave him pause. There was that, of course... "What about it?" He asked playfully, "You've got something to confess? Want me to bring it out right now?"

"You put a negative spin on things but you have a unique view. People will listen to you if you give them the chance. Just don't make everything doom and gloom." He arched a brow, grinning, "That'd be an interesting church at the least.

"And I'm not a model citizen, doesn't mean I don't keep trying. There's always a choice in life. Sure, it's different here but people are people, right? Regardless of where they come from, who or what they are... they have the same heart so it shouldn't matter." There was a hopeful lilt to his tone, almost as though he was convincing himself of that fact.

"What?" He blinked and pulled away slightly, "No... nothing to confess. And I don't have money to pay for it anyways." Vash quirked his head to the side, "What about you?" He could and would play sounding board for Wolfwood. It was odd but right before people had turned on him in the past, most would tell him their stories and why they had to take him in order to assure their survival.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 02, 2008 11:34 pm

Wolfwood laughed at Vash's expression, shaking his head. "They'd probably listen long enough to decide whether or not to lynch me. I'll have to think on it -- who knows? I might continue my gig as a wandering priest spreading His Word and doing Good Things."

He took another drink as Vash spoke, setting it down again to watch Vash. "Hm, you speak as if you already know them, Vash." Wolfwood said quietly, before grinning. "Why don't you set up your own church of Love and Peace? I'll distribute pamphlets!"

As Vash pulled away, Wolfwood grinned and set his small confessional on the table, next to his bottle. It was amazing how it seemed he pulled it out of thin air, when really he kept it unassembled in his pocket. He used to assemble and disassemble it quickly, and he was prideful of the fact that he was still able to do it as a... whatever he now was.

"You've mentioned money before," he said, tilting his head to one side. "Is there even money here? Considering my form, I don't think I could exactly carry any, so what could be charged for a confession? C'mon, it's on the house."

But when it came his turn... Wolfwood blanched, then quickly covered it up with a laugh. "Perhaps I'll have something to say. Maybe later, when I'm drunk. Right now, there's things to talk about. Why spoil the mood?" In saying, he tilted back his bottle and took a long drink, as if he could wash the taste of those words away.

Vash sipped, swirled the bottle and sipped again, "When you watch people long enough you learn there is good in the world." He laughed at the mention of starting his own church. "No, I don't think so. This land is made of Love of Peace and I'll go from person to person as I meet them and make sure they understand."

He shrugged as he polished off the last but of the bottle, "I don't know... But if people get paid, there's got to be some kind of currency. Just need to learn what it is." Vash nodded but paused at Wolfwood's expression. Hrm.. touched a nerve, huh? He did the polite thing and nodded, opening a new bottle and taking a few long sips of that. There was a nice buzz about his head now, nothing he couldn't snap out of but it was a warm feeling nonetheless.

"You really want me to confess my sins?" Vash asked, arching a brow. A hundred years of history to cover and then some. Quite a bit to ask. "Like you said, why spoil the mood?"

And then, as the song changed and the chorus picked up, he belted out the words. With a goofy grin, he eyed the bottle before Wolfwood, "Dare you to say toy boat ten times fast. If you can't you take a sip. Then you suggest a tongue-twister for me." He squared his shoulders and sat up, as though getting ready to face down a deadly opponent.
