Umm...I don't know if I mean something else or not...lol
Emm...let me rephrase what I'm wondering. What part of the errand thingy are you not sure that you could do, using a paper route as an example?
PostPosted: Tue Mar 04, 2008 5:01 pm

i can make them fine..its just i am unsure on how to make RANDOM ERRANDS like on animal crossing..but im not sure if that was what we were planning anyway? if it is i can look into it further xp

I don't think that we have to do it as a random event. It could just be if you walk into someone's house at a certain time or on a certain day it happens. 3nodding

Well, at least you're not pressured with a deadline to finish. I've got my Frankenstein essay to write by tomorrow and I'm still stuck on my introducing paragraph. D:

Ummm...I've actually never talked to him, so I couldn't tell you. Your best bet is to PM him. Unless he has this thread tabbed, he probably forgets to come in. If you PM him, he'll at least get a notice.

Wow, sorry, didn't mean to disappear for so long, but work came up and I got super busy! It seems I missed a lot while I was gone.

Well, just to add my two cents, I like the idea of taking care of grandpa until he dies- it's not like they've never had a Harvest Moon character die. Spoiler: Elli's grandma died in the N64 version (it was so sad!) and spoiler : you die in AWL and AnWL.

That also still kind of sticks with our original plan- I don't think we intended for mom to settle down until later, unless I had misunderstood that. This just gives her the motivation to do so and still provides the twins with the instruction they need on running a farm. Did we ever pick out an age for the two kids?

As for the errands, they would not be random- it would kind of be like maybe a weekly thing where if you went to (for example) Vesta's farm on Saturday morning she asks you to go pick some items up for her from the store since she's so busy. Maybe in this instance even Celia could join you (increasing your friendship with her every week you help out). But they wouldn't be like Animal Crossing (I'm assuming from my basic programming knowledge).

Ho noes!! Not Ellen!!! Well, I know that Nina dies in DS. :
But I definitely do not want our own character to die. I think that is the lamest thing that has ever happened. LAAAAME. dramallama

I think the starting age will have to be....13? I'm thinking that's about right. That gives you two years as a kid until your grandpa dies, and then after that 2 years to court. 16/17 is a bit young to get married, but 13 is about as old as you can get while still having most of the physical aspects of a child.
Or should there be a time period of a few years skipped like they do in DS when you have your kid?? That might work out to our benefit. Liiiike, "It's been two years since my granddad died, and I've been handling the farm ever since..." maybe some gold to make up for lost time, maybe a few flashbacks, yadayada...

That sounds about right.

or maybe you haveless gold because of all the medical bills...or better yet..hardly any gold eek

actually i think the idea to start with none...then that way you borrow money and have to pay it back...so no matter how much (or little) gold they have...you could always say "they lost all their gold to medical biils"

I don't know about any of you, but the medical bills thing makes sense to me.

The flashbacks/skipping years for grandpa's death seems a little strange, though. I agree that 13 is probably the best age for the character, but, if you're going to skip years due to a child as well, then there's an awful lot of variation that will take an awful lot of detail to account for.

I'm not sure of how else it would work though...

well, as much sense as that might make, personally, i would not spend thousands of gold on medical bills on an old man. it's like, you pay to get something fixed only for something to break a few days later. it's kind of like, why would you keep a car around when it's costing you more than it's worth. ...umm...not to depreciate the value of human life or anything. sweatdrop

But that's a cool idea about the loaning money. I'd like to work that in somehow, even if it doesn't have to do with medical bills.
hehe....we should have a new character from our created town that does loans. Maybe for house upgrades and stuffs like that.

Tiria: what don't you get about the flashbacks/skippings? Most HM games (or at least the ones that I have played) have flashbacks of you as a child on your grandfather's farm. I haven't gotten far enough on HM: Back to Nature, but in the DS version, once you have your kid, it skips three years. It's essentially to get over the lame period of newborn where you really can't do anything with the child...it's just something to give a kick to the storyline.

It's the fact that we'd have two skippings. I feel like it would be strange to have three different main storyline points. From Child -> After Grandfathers Death -> Married with children. How many years would that be? Six? Eight? If we're going for something original, realistically, characters change a lot in eight years. Do we have to make three different sets of characters? Well, not different, but, three differently aged sets of characters?

That might actually be a whole lot of fun.

We would definitely not have skippings of six-eight years!! that's wayyy too long. Maybe one or two years, but no more than that. o__o"

you need to get on aim *waves her algebra book shouting obscenities about mr. d*

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I meant, the game in total would take place over 6 - 8 years.
