Vuvimoto was lucky to have woken up and as quickly as he did, for he'd been laying in a heap by the dens, hidden round a corner. Having twacked his head against hard stone, he'd fallen during the battle. His two adolescent attackers hadn't finished him off as he slept - but then Ilahle, he knew well. She'd too much honor to cowardly kill someone knocked out. Kadogo though had fought like a demon and Vuvi was surprised. He got to his paws somewhat unsteadily, aching and with blood oozing from various small wounds and his scalp.

The battle looked to be over and it took him a few minutes to get his bearings, gather who'd won. It was another minutes worth of indecision before he roared for the last time on his home sands. He hoped Saburi'd hear it and recognise his voice. For all its ferociousness, it was the loudest call he could muster and the only goodbye he could give. Maybe she'd understand.

For Saburi he'd been denying in secret several rules but they were parted now and he willed her spell on his heart be broken. When the pride was at peace and secrets hidden, they'd had a chance. But not now. A traditionalist couldn't love a rogue-born rebel. It broke his heart that it was only now when they were forever parted he knew why he'd done what he had done for her. Though it had been wrong to break and bend the rules for her, Vuvi knew... Oh that the Goddess would forgive him...And so to the worshipers of the goddess and to those who practised the old ways he had to go.

He might have been able to go to the rebels. Ilahle and Saburi would have vouched for him. Yes, even Ilahle, who he'd tried to kill. She would have held his life in her paws and let her old teacher have a second chance. Then he could have asked to join them. But he didn't.

Finar-si was the one who ruled him now and he'd been brought up to be a Firekin. A true Firekin. He'd returned when his family had heard the Plague was gone to be just that. If this great change, this sundering of the pride, was what Finar-si willed, so be it. His love he'd have to lock away in his heart and forget. It was wrong. He hoped he'd chosen correctly and would pass this 'test'.

He headed the way Ripuka and the others went.

((For the record, he's been allowing Saburi to stay in his den and teaching her Firekin ways - and told most she was a full blooded Firekin rather than only a quarter Firekin. He was going to vouch for her, sneak her in. So no one should know he's been breaking rules on the Traditionalist side - only a few Rebels do XD; )

“You flatter your mother.” Ripuka smiled softly, glad that even though she had lost everything else, she still had her daughter and her son. Truly, her children were far more important than her home-den, though she’d grieve its loss for a while yet.

“Don’t worry child. He has made many enemies today. If he lives today then he lives only to die tomorrow. If it is not you or I that stills his breath, another of the blood will do it for us.” She rubbed her head against her daughter’s shoulder. “One day he’ll slip up and he’ll find Firekin teeth in his back – a fitting end for a traitorous wretch.” She sneered through her pain. “But what am I saying? We have had no news from either him or Lord Kimeti. If our King rises victorious then this is not the end. Without their precious Kidondo, panic may set in. There may be a chance for a second attack.” She couldn’t help it. She didn’t consider the fact that if Kimeti won, another rebel might come and strike him down. She was too honourable to even consider that someone might take advantage of Kimeti if he won the duel. Ripuka was wise in some ways but not in others.

“Kiunguza?” She could not put a face to the name. “Maybe she is dead, or worse, a traitor too. Give her till sundown to return and if she does not, claim it for yourself. It would be a shame to let a good slave go to waste.” She paused as the white lioness darted forwards and slowed her pace to watch with a critical eye.

“How considerate of it.” She responded to her daughter’s remark. She slowed to a halt, waiting for the slave to return, and rather surprised at how quickly it did. She gave a small snort in response and opened her mouth to reply.

But her words were interrupted by Vuvimoto’s roar. The old Firekin half-turned back to see the dark male following after them. Her heart lifted. Another was coming! They were not alone. Ripuka would have given an answering call, but knew it would pain her torn lip. Instead she turned her head back to the slave. “Point us in the right direction, then go to Vuvimoto and direct him to us.” She growled. “Show any other traditionalists that pass this way where we are. Tell them we gather.”

A little more spirited now, she looked to her daughter. “Perhaps not all is lost after all.”

"I only speak the truth." She groomed Ripuka's ears, then watched the slave. "Maybe she's off finding her brother to rip his throat out... But if she doesn't return..." It WAS a nice idea, to have a slave so loyal and obediant. "If I'm not mistaken, this one was brought in already grown..."

She lifted her head, hearing the roar. Eyes dancing, she smiled. "There are others..." She looked to her mother, offering support. "While she goes and gets the others... Let's get you to safety." Noting the direction the slave had gone, thankfully a straight line, Jua'taka began to slowly lead Ripuka to the den that had been found.

Bowing her head, Kimiko turned and lead the way. Once sure they were safe at the den, she ran to meet Vuvi. Perching on a dune, she returned his call, a call of 'We're here, we're this way'. Tail flicking, she then hurried down the dune to meet him.

The young males breath caught in his chest as he ran, Wakia may have been angry, may have hate building in him from being lied to, but he loved his mother and he had heard a rumor that the great story teller was injured, it was time to return to her, the war was over, or what seemed to be and he knew safety was beside someone more wise. He leaped over crumpled bodies, stayed clear of anyone that lood.have a weary look to them, anyone that might be a traitor.

"Mother! MOTHER WHRE ARE YOU?" he screamed as he ran looking for her warm pelt and for his sister's it was if he were as blind as Ripuka's bad side because he did not see the both of them, and their follower in his panic, he only saw the sand and blood, and he prayed to the goddess it was not his family's b

Pain pulsed through the veins of the aged lioness, golden eyes glaring into the burning sands beneath her white tipped paws and black claws.
She wasn't harmed, no, no blood poured from any wound that may have marred her fur and flesh...no...this pain came from inside, came from the betrayal of her son.

The betrayal of his pride.

The betrayal of everything he'd been raised to believe.

And the betrayal of her.

The once sleek, proud feline now trudged after her fellow traditionalists...eyes so pained...full of burning, rageful fire that glared into the sands of her home.
Why did he leave?
Why was everything falling that made her world falling around her right infront of her eyes!?
She hated it and she hated them, the Rebels, they did something to her son to cloud his mind of Godesses teachings, they made him change and now he was gone forever!

She then threw her head back and let her pain be known as her roar vocalised and rumbled across the desert sky.
Tears burning her cheeks and her eyes as she felt all her pain well and burst forth from her chest.

Mwali bent down to run his rough tongue over his young daughter's head. Sinbad trailed along lazily behind Zaphod as the blue slave took his spot behind his mistress. "Alright..." Mwali lifted his head and eyed the cubs huddled in the cave, "No more cowering. From today on you are warriors. No fear. Follow behind me and keep up. Anyone that falls behind will be slaughtered by the traitors."

Sinbad nodded and licked his maw once more. Warriors. He liked the thought. For a moment, he even entertained the idea of hanging behind just for a chance to dig his claws into some inferior hides... but then again- he wouldn't have anyone around to watch. Logic seemed lost on the cub for the time-being. Seeing Mwali scratched up as badly as he was might have given a logical mind a good idea of just what they faced.

Zaphod glanced slowly back to the others, then to the large red lion moving out from the cave. So they were retreating? It seemed...strange.

Mwali moved forward without sparing a single glance over his shoulder. His offspring were strong. Finar'si's blessing! They would be the ones to regain the pride's honor, to avenge their loss that day. He licked the side of his face. Yes. His offspring would be the ones to do it... perhaps his mate would be willing to add to their numbers later on. Their litter was growing older, and the traditionalists still were too few in number.

Far too few.

The former prince approached where Ripuka and the other traditionalists had gathered. They were afraid, he could see it in their eyes. Their leader wasn't among them. Fools. Defenseless without a leader. How had they grown to be so weak!?

Mwali let loose a powerful roar, demanding their attention. His one remaining eye skimmed over the small group gathered. "Pull yourselves together!" He boomed. "I am Mwali, son of the late king Makadari." Just in case they needed a reminder, "You may remain here and fall under the claws of traitors or keep up with us. This is not the final battle..." He turned his head towards the battlefield, glaring sharply towards a distant golden form. "We will return...but today we retreat. Keep up."

With that, the male turned and started off.

"Yeah. Keep up!" Sinbad flicked his tail sharply and walked himself forward, chest out and head up. One would almost think the cub was under the impression that they had won.

Zaphod, however, shrank closer to Kenna. So many of them...and so large.

It didn't take long for her to spot others following. Moving swiftly, the white lioness went to them all, bowing and directing to the cave. She paused to stare at Zaphod, unable to NOT stare at the bright blue coat. After a moment, her tail flicked and she moved on.

Spotting Wakia, she went up to him. "You are Wakia, yes? Son of Ripuka, sister of Jua'taka? They are this way." She turned without another word, leading the way.

Making sure her mother was safe, Jua'taka went out to greet others. The wounds were many, but there was the odd lion like her that had saved strength and not fought. Spotting Mwali, she couldn't help but think of her mother, blind in one eye... Though she did note that her mother still HAD the eye. Frowning, she shook the thoughts from her head, then went to find anybody else who might be trailing back.

Wakia blinked and stepped back as the slave appeared out of thin air and then started off after saying his family was this way, was this a trap? The strapping young firekin was strong, could probably easily overpower the slave but if it was a trap, an ambush to get him away from others, but she knew his name, knew his mother.

"WAIT UP!" he howled and started after the slave, "Are you sure it's my mother?" he asked cautiously.

She stopped, looking at him with piercing gold eyes. "Is your mother not the storyteller, Ripuka? Coat a fiery red like your mane, blind in one eye? Your sister is her spitting image, you know... I'm sure it's your mother, she told me herself to gather the others." With that said, she continued on at a trot.

It didn't take Jua long to spot Kimiko, and besides her... "Wakia!" Paws flying, the dark lioness went down to meet her brother. "Wakia, Mother's been asking about you! Come on, everybody's this way!" She nodded, looking towards where the slave had gone. "You can trust her... She's got a rare loyalty to us." She'd never know why, but... It was there.

Hewa was almost annoyed by the return of her father. Mother was still fighting, she knew it - so why wasn't he? Of course, logically, he did need to get the lot of them together. She supposed, then, that it was excusable, because he'd stopped fighting for their sake. Still, she couldn't help but look over her shoulder.

Kan, as always, wasn't bothering to think as much as his twin. He just loped along after his father with the rest of their siblings - and that annoying blue cub! He looked around, but it was in hopes of seeing some glimpse of battle, getting some look at a fight or its aftermath. He wasn't afraid, not in the least. He wasn't supposed to fear, he knew it.

Ripuka had been lying alone. She had been muttering of the future, of what they would do now. What they would do with no ruler amongst them. Of the few that seemed to remain, none of them held the strength to rule. Not really.

But she was tired now. So tired. All she wanted was to lay down and sleep. After that her head would clear, the pain would lessen and she'd be able to think more clearly.

And then Mwali's roar halted her thoughts.

That was the roar of a king! But not her king. Not Lord Kimeti. Then who? She pulled herself up and came back into view, peering through her one good eye, seeing for the first time that Jua had gone. But where? Panic clenched her heart but it was confined by the presence brought from Mwali. He was a huge lion and from his colours and markings he was indeed a son of Makadari.

She would have bowed fully, but her shoulder hurt too much to allow. So she managed but a simple bow of her head. Was his arrival a gift from Finar-Si? A sign to give them hope?

And then she heard him.

Retreat.

She had known deep down that it was the only option for her. To leave the lands she adored. But this time, she wouldn't be leaving alone. She'd have true Firekin along with her. And her children.

But what about her children? The panic that had been so gathered and hidden inside began to leak out. She couldn't leave without her children. No, she'd rather go back and face the traitors. Better die than leave without them.

She turned, saw Mpeka, clearly distressed. Had she lost someone? Mpeka roared her sorrow and Ripuka lifted her own grizzled maw and gave a calling grunt to her children.

She couldn't turn her back on them. She would not abandon one of her own ever again. Ever.

---

And from somewhere across the desert, from the heart of the Firekin Lands, came Kidondo's mournful victory cry. It was an awful sound to hear. A mix of relief, of sadness and of joy.

That roar held two very different meanings.

For the rebellion it spelt the beginning of a new era.

For the traditionalists it meant the end of the old ways forever.

The lioness's world had fallen down around her ears, such anger and fire that welled up inside her chest now as she trudged behind the others...

And then she heard his roar.

Her ears flattened back at the sheer force before she stared at the bright red male, claws digging into the sand beneath her paws as she listened to him.
This was a child of Madakari? A Prince?
She found it hard to believe and yet the part of her that still clung to her dieing faith for dear life just stared on in respect and awe.
His words were true.

As he gave them a choice, the female briefly turned her eyes in the direction she law saw her son run off in...with those traitors...
Her old comrade Nuri was a traitor, one who had been so devoted to the Goddess...she would not become one of them!
And with a small snarl she quickly moved to catch up with the rest that would follow Mwali.

She would cut all memories of her son.

All memories of her family.

And as the sound of Kimwondo's mournful victory blasted out across the air, it just drove the last nail into the coffin.

This was the end of her old life within the pride.

It didn't take her long to respond to her mother's call. As she ran back, she answered the call, letting out an almost barking grunt.Pausing in step, she looked up at Mwali, finally stopping to process his words.

So wrapped up in finding her brother, she'd not paid attention. Now... She bowed to him, the propper respect for a prince.

Her tail curled and her hackles raised at the sound of Kidondo's roar. Claws flexing and digging into the sand, she bit back an angry reply. "Finar-si help you..."

Now was not the time to plot trying to kill him, though. With quick steps, she returned to her mother's side. "I found Wakia, Mother..." She glanced over her shoulder at Kimiko. "Well... She found him, but... He's safe, he's coming..."

It was only when Kidondo's roar rang out that Azachamorel at last left the fight for what it was - over. For now. She was battered and bleeding, and would soon have new scars on top of old ones...and in the time to come, she would likely gain more still. This war was not over. It would never be over.

The powerful lioness ran across the sands, searching for her family, her eight children, until she finally caught up to the pitiful grouping of traditionalists. She did not bow to Mwali, for to her he was mate and ally. Still, she did not pay overmuch attention to him, because she wasn't concerned. She didn't love her mate, and never had. She didn't dislike him, of course, otherwise she might not even have tolerated him - it truly was an alliance, more than anything.

Aza wasted no time in taking inventory of her children, counting heads and giving them each a quick glance-over to see that they were unharmed.

It was the roar, too, that finally managed to shake Sikitiko from her hiding place. She might have stayed and continued to cower, but what little imagination she possessed had quickly occuppied itself with thoughts of what would happen if she were to be discovered. She did not know who came to kill the king of the Motoujamii or change their ways, and what she did not know, she feared.

Quite forgetting Ure and any of her other siblings as terror took hold, she burst forth from the cave and fled with every ounce of strength and speed she had, fueled by desperation. Only half-consciously did she find and follow the familiar scent of the true pride, different from that of the strangers from outside the desert, and she ran to it.
