"Ah, actually, no. You see, I told him he should rest."
He gave a languid, cat-like stretch, sitting up again and looking Ambrose square in the eyes.
It was very clear, whatever the case...that Julian wasn't the one behind that gaze. No...too confident. Too...mad? Well, possibly. His grin was stretched as wide as it could go, showing off just how much his teeth had changed.
"...Poor thing is scared...out of his mind."

Ambrose leaned back, withdrawing his hand slowly and watching the distinctly diffrent mannerisms.
"I... see..." Ambrose commented quietly. "I... don't believe Julian.. mentioned you before today..." In fact Julian had seemed suprised by the presence of voices. This must be a new development - triggered from his change. This "voice" was right - and somehow expressing Julian's fears that he himself could not?
"Out of his mind might be rather appropriate" Ambrose said. "And who might be in his place...?"
He was almost afraid to ask. Why did HE have to have the psycho roommate?

"He wouldn't have mentioned me. No, I only came today...to help him. Poor thing needed it, the way the others gang up on him."
Whoever it was, they certainly seemed more at ease than Julian ever did. He crossed his legs, wiggling his clawed toes for a moment, then reached over to the plate of food. Picking out another piece of ham, he speared it on his claw, looking from it to Ambrose.
"The Cheshire Cat, naturally," he replied, bobbing his head in a little bow. "At your service, my dear Carpenter.

Ambrose opened and closed his mouth, words seeming to be feeling from the "Cheshire cat" before him too quickly for him to catch them and form them to coherent sentances.
Finally, he articulated enough to sound not quite so stupid. "Cheshire cat...? And Carpenter..? Have... have you been speaking to Greer?" He asked, thoroughly befuddled and worried.
Julian had mentioned reading Alice in Wonderland many, many times... And Ambrose began to get a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as he remembered, very clearly now, comparing life on the Island to Wonderland in an attempt to cheer Julian up. It has seemed to work. Now... he wasn't so sure.
"The others...?" He asked, wondering if that was such a good idea. So... if this Cheshire cat was amiable with him... that was good. But these 'others' worried him. He was concerned enough about Julian, and of his and the rest of the Islanders' wellbeing around a certifiable crazyperson (especially living downstairs from him. Maybe he SHOULD start locking that door of his...)

"Greer? No - Julian hasn't spoken with her yet...." He grinned, chewing on the bite of ham. "But...you are the Carpenter. I can see it."
He seemed so sure of this, it might be hard to deny...well, maybe if the look on his face wasn't so...creepy.
"Yes, the others. They carry on and on like gossips in a hairparlor...poor Julian was never one for crowds. Now he has one he can't get away from."
The 'Cheshire Cat' shook his head sadly, the grin starting to look strained.

Ambrose, while still very much on edge, at least seemed to lower his guard as Julian, er... the Cheshire Cat didn't seem prone to leap at his face with claws extended or anything.... however, these 'others' still worried him. Did Julian have more personalities embedded in his psyche?
Ambrose still wasn't quite sure what he meant by being the Carpenter. (It had been quite some time since Ambrose had read or watched Alice himself). "Well... I am going to help Greer construct a butterfly house... so... although I'm not exactly that expierenced of a carpenter..."
"But... do you know who.. or what.. these 'others' might be? Are they a threat to Julian or others?" He spoke gently, carefully.
"Although, I think that, perhaps, Mr. er... Cat... that you and Julian might need some rest..." Might he be better afterwards? Not bloody likely. Not unless he gets more psychiatric help than I can offer.

"But you ARE the Carpenter."
In response to the question about the 'others,' he chuckled a bit, shining his claws against his turtleneck.
"Oh, they're just...others," he murmured, looking Ambrose in the eyes. "But no, I don't believe they're a threat to the other Islanders. JULIAN, however...well...they might be harmful to him. He's so terrified of BREAKING, and I don't think they're going to exactly HELP him with that."
He gave a lazy, catlike yawn - as if to punctuate Ambrose's remark.
"...Mm. Well, I can't be at the helm for long periods of time. He doesn't want me here...and first and foremost, it is HIS body...."

Ambrose nodded slowly. "I see.... the carpenter..." Perhaps it would make sense in time.
"So, you're trying to help Julian?" Ambrose asked, not sure if having a second personality - even if it proclaimed being benefitial, was exactly good for ones mental health. But if Julian was hearing voices in addition to a second personality... hoo boy. "Well... perhaps you could help vanquish the other voices in that case?" Ambrose wasn't entirely sure if this was the best of ideas, but if leaning more into a second personality helped rid himself of an additional psychosis, then wasn't one psychosis better than two? "Where, ah, exactly did you come from?"
At least he said himself he couldn't 'stay' long... and Ambrose hoped that would remain the case - that Julian could regain his grasp on reality and not sink further into this repression. Hell, it wasn't all that surprisng that SOMEONE on the Island had snapped with the shock of the events... and of course, with Ambrose's luck, it had to be the person closest to his room. BUT, at least it hadn't been him.
"Well.... uhm.... why don't you take a rest then..." He said, hoping that Julian would be 'better' after this ... episode, but somehow doubted it.

"Of course I'm trying to help." His tail gave another flick as he bowed his head, eyes like emeralds shining behind an ebony curtain.
"...Help him vanquish them? Oh, I was PLANNING on it." Something markedly wicked crept into his grin - a sort of twitch that made the display of long, sharp teeth more uneven.
"...As to the rest...perhaps you are right. I'm wearing out very quickly...." Curling up in a feline manner on the floor, he grinned up at Ambrose.
"...Hope to see you again, Carpenter."

"Well... that's good, at least." Ambrose replied, although that really wasn't what he was thinking.
"It was... a pleasure meeting you" And once again, formality got in the way of what he was truly thinking. He hoped that he wouldn't be seeing too much of him....
Ambrose remained, curiousity getting the better of him as to what would happen next.

With a final grin, his eyes fluttered shut, his tail drooping again.
There was a long moment before anything happened - but sure enough, a soft whimper could be heard. Julian curled up tighter on the floor for a moment, giving a shiver, and then uncurled enough to look blearily up at Ambrose.
"...Am...Ambrose...?" His voice was quiet.

Ambrose nodded, reaching out again to rest a hand on Julian's shoulder.
"...Julian?" he asked, hoping for an affirmative reply. Did he realize what had happened? The other personality knew of Julian and what he did....

His memory was hazy - slowly coming back to him.
"...What...what happened...?" He stammered, trying to get up...very...slowly. His tail still lay limp, though the fur was standing on end.
The color drained from his face.
"...Wait...d-did I...was...was I...just...?"

Ambrose swallowed. "You mean you don't remember" Great. Just bloody great.
"You... ah... you were talking like you were the Cheshire cat...."
He scratched the back of his head, and phrased it slowly. "Have... er... you ever taken any psychology classes, Julian?"

For once, the smile was completely gone from his face.
"The Cheshire...Cat...oh, no. NO...no...no...NO."
He cringed, putting his face in his hands. It was a long moment before he spoke.
"...I don't know much about it." There was recognizable dread in his tone.
