"I'm always up before the dawn patrol," Sandpaw said. He decided not to tell her that he usually didn't get much sleep at all. "What is taking Torrentstar so long?" Sandpaw wondered aloud to nobody in particular.

"Maybe he's dreaming... When I have a dream it makes me sleep longer." She pointed out, although she knew that probably wasn't the reason. Still, it would give her something to ponder about for a few minutes, before she got bored again. She looked up at Sandpaw, knowing he must be anxious to leave, then back at the leader's den. "Maybe you should go wake him up?" She suggested, knowing that it might be a bit rude to wake the leader of a clan.

"I'm supposed to have an assessment today. He'll definitely fail me on my assessment if I wake him." Sandpaw looked over at Moonkit.

Moonkit simply shrugged. She knew it was a bad suggestion, anyway. "Oh, an assesment? Well, I hope you catch lots of prey!" Moonkit purred, trying to encourage him a bit.

"Hopefully. It is leaf-bare..." Sandpaw muttered.

Moonkit padded out into the clearing, the cloudy sky making everything seem gloomy and depressing. The frost bit at her whiskers, just daring her to go any further into the blistering cold. Although she hated the frost, she had never truly experienced leaf-bare before, so she didn't know what to come of it. Perhaps if she could go out into the forest, she could get a better idea, but she knew it was against the Warrior Code for a kit to go out into the forest alone. Although she hardly thought herself as a kit, she honored the code and would not break it. Eyes dull and clouded with jealousy for the other apprentices, Moonkit sat and waited for anything to happen.

Sandpaw, as usual, appeared behind Moonkit. He had a habit of doing it. "You'll be an apprentice soon," he mewed quietly. He could sense her restlessness and hoped that she would become one also. The apprentices den could become quite boring-even to Sandpaw-and a lively cat like Moonkit would be good.

Moonkit was only slightly suprised by Sandpaw's appearance. She had gotten used to such things. She looked up to Sandpaw, a lot, and was glad to see him. "I hope so.." Her voice trailed off, leaving her sentence hanging in thin air. She picked it up again, looking at Sandpaw. "Is it fun, being an apprentice?" She asked, her bright blue eyes looking for something that she will have to look forward to.

"Yes and no. It is fun being able to run through the territory on patrols and to fish in the river and go to gatherings, but that also comes with responsibilities. Cleaning the elders den and nursery included," Sandpaw replied. He remembered how excited he was to see the territory and only thought about that during his ceremony.

"It sounds amazing!" Moonkit exclaimed, not even trying to contain her excitemtent. She jumped up, raising her haunches into the air, as if she was about to pounce. "I can't wait to find a water vole! I'll stalk it and..." She jumped up, landing squarely on the ground, her claws sheated and clutching the ground. "Bam! He'll never knew what hit him!" She laughed, her white paws getting slightly muddy from the way she had clawed the ground.

Moonkit sat, hastily licking the dirt from her paws. "So, you have to have a naming ceremony, right? What was yours like?" Moonkit asked, curiosly. She knew she could be rather annoying at times with her inquiring mind, but she couldn't help it. It was in her genes.

Yes. The leader says a few words and then the end of your name will change to paw. The only really exciting thing about it is that after you get to see the territory," Sandpaw said.

((Thanks Bridgecrash ^^)) "Yes becoming an apprentice is exciting...Maybe a bit too exciting for you." Silvertail bounded over to Moonkit and Sandpaw in her usual perky mood. She gently touched shoulders with Sandpaw in a friendly greeting, and gave Moonkit's ear a loving lick as she sat beside the kit with a happy smile. Silvertail had only been Moonkit's mother for a few moons but she loved her dearly and did not even want to think about losing her.
Even though she had said it jokingly, she was serious when she said that maybe becoming an apprentice was too exciting for her kit. She knew how impatient and anxious Moonkit was about becoming an apprentice and how careless that could cause her to be when she was finally old enough to leave the camp, but she also knew she couldn't hold off the naming ceremony forever and simply sighed in opposition as she thought about it.

Moonkit purred a bit in greeting. "Well, is there really such a thing as 'too exciting'?" Moonkit asked, her eyes bright with hope. Although everyone made it sound a bit dull, she knew in her heart that when she touched noses with the leader, it would be a life-changing experience.
