X-Legends-Never-Die-X So it's 1:00 here on the east coast, and it's a new year. And I'd just like to share how much I love all of you. All my time in this sticky my fellow regs have been my closest friends, and I don't think a day goes by that I'm not happy I can share some words with you guys. Thanks for being there. *runs and cries* I know I'm terribly late but you just reminded me of that Pokemon episode where Ash leaves his Charizard in some valley to train with other Charizards. xd

If I celebrated holidays and, subsequently, actually HAD a New Years Party, I would have totally invited you man. Why don't you celebrate holidays? D:Various reasons. I could make you a list, if you like. wink SURE. >: DWell, here are the basics: Christmas - allegedly a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Messiah of the Bible and the Christian faith. However, historically speaking, Jesus Christ was not born in winter and so a celebration on December 25th is incorrect. To add to this, December 25th is the very same date that the pagan Romans celebrated the birth of their sun god, a god considered "false" by Christian doctrine. Not to mention that Jesus Christ himself taught that Christians should not drink excessively or fornicate, two things that take place often during the Christmas season. In addition, a summary glance at the Gospel accounts would show anybody that Jesus Christ, were he around today, would not celebrate his own birthday and would discourage others from celebrating it as well. So just imagine if all your friends came to your house to celebrate your birthday, but had the day wrong and it was the birthday of one of your enemies, and then proceeded to wreck your house and do all kinds of things you don't approve of, and then gave gifts to everyone but you. That's Christmas, and Christians that have faith in Jesus don't celebrate the holiday, out of respect and faith. Easter - a celebration of the resurrection of Christ, the date of this holiday is pretty accurate. However, as we all know, eggs and bunnies have nothing to do with Jesus. The reason these two symbols are heavily associated with Easter is because they both (the egg and the rabbit) are pagan symbols of fertility, associated with renewal and rebirth. Again, when Jesus Christ was on earth, he knew about these symbols, what they were associated with, and would not want true Christians to embrace them in any way. Valentine's Day - another celebration wherein the practices and traditions come from un-Scriptural sources and superstition. Fourth of July (and all political holidays) - Christians claim to follow the example of Jesus Christ in their everyday lives. A major factor of this is explained in the Bible, when Jesus told his disciples that they should "be no part of the world." Jesus taught that true Christians are citizens of the future kingdom of God and should hold no allegiance with any worldly nation beyond this. So a patriotic celebration of a country's origins is not something a true follower of Jesus' teachings would want to take part in. In fact, the principle to "be no part of the world" can apply to most holidays, especially worldwide holidays such as New Years.Halloween - this one is so obvious I don't think I need to explain, do I? wink And that pretty much covers it. This is a really crude medium in which to talk about all this stuff, and I know I just gave you and eyeful, but you did ask. mrgreen

Eh, I don't look at holidays from a religious standpoint.
I celebrate them to hangout with friends and family, most of which I don't get a lot of time to see anyway. Besides, holidays are real commercial nowadays anyway. How many people celebrate them religiously?
I know I don't wake up on Christmas day like
"OMG, THANKS FOR THE BIRTH OF JESUS, GOD! TIME TO PRAY AND BAKE A BIRTHDAY CAKE!"
Besides, the Bible was written by man and no one can know, for sure/beyond a reasonable doubt, what Jesus wanted anyway.

I think organized religion is a pointless exercise in manipulation by men seeking power by abusing the faith of those looking to believe. Most of the time god and spirits were used to explain things that at the time were unexplainable.
I'm agnostic. Organized religion is a scam.

Besides, the Bible was written by man and no one can know, for sure/beyond a reasonable doubt, what Jesus wanted anyway. Believe it or not many many people do. They can't be criticized for it. People can't be criticized for believing in the Bible too. I believe in it and I would rather not feel offended about religion or get into a religious discussion of that nature. I respect your beliefs on organized religion but criticizing it is an entirely different thing. I wish you were a bit more sensitive in what you were saying (last two lines) about it knowing how I am Methodist. @Everyone: I don't want any political/religious discussions in threads here. Many of us may end up getting offended and it's not worth it to work anyone up over it and/or begin religious debates. If you must discuss it please do so via PMs or ED. My suggestion is that we end that discussion here. This killed my mood. emo

Wak, you should know I was baptized Catholic, and took part in every ceremony, communion, conformation, etc available. except Marriage and funeral, which undoubtedly, I'm going to do someday.
And, I wasn't criticizing religion. I was replying to Arvis, that, IMHO, you shouldn't hate holidays because of religious factual errors/flaws... and that most, quote "religious holidays" are mainstreamed/commercialized. I know many atheists that celebrate Christmas.
Christmas, nay, all holidays, should be about getting together with loved ones... not who was born/who was killed on a particular day thousands of years ago.
And, I shouldn't "have respect" for a book. It's a book. Written by a human/people. People shouldn't shape there lives around such a thing. I'm not going to hell for wearing a shirt made of more than 2 fibers... I'm not going to hell for eating pig meat, and I'm not going to sell my future daughter into slavery. Believing in something, i.e. Faith is what's important. Not a set of rules created by a man(the bible's authors, the pope, etc).
Faith > Religion.
You act like I'm persecuting you, when in all actuality, I was talking to Arvis. Like Blues, I'm Agnostic... but have some form of Faith.
I believe in God, Heaven, and being a good person. That's all faith is. that's more important than rules/regulations/corrupt organizations.
I want to be judged on who I am, and what I accomplish in life. Not where I was at Sunday morning and how closely I followed a set of rules.
