My ears perked up as they heard hushed conversation and several terms that might be meaningful to the case at hand, and I instantly whirled around, dashing to the girl from the shed and getting in her face, rudely, but hell-bent on finding out what she knew.
"What are you talking about?" I said, eyes wide and staring into her's, searching their secretive depths for the slightest tell-tale answer.
"Murder?" I said. "That thing? What the hell are you talking about? If you're withholding evidence, I swear to Jesus, God, and Buddah I'll have you turned in quicker than you can say supercalafragalisticexpialadocious."
Hey, it was a mouthful, and an unnecessary one, but I was just trying to make a point, after all.

"Lucky for us, Morone, we don't believe in those," Mave replied coldly. She stopped suddenly and got right back in his own face. "Don't you dare try to scare me, and especially not my little sister, because I will skin you alive." She laughed airily suddenly. "Morone, Morone, Morone... have you ever wondered why your last name is only one letter off from what you really are?" Her entire face broke into a genuine smile-- one that was insulting towards him-- as she began to walk again.

I sighed. Why did Lukas always have to be so...blunt?
Approaching the girls, I put on my warmest smile, and adressed the older one. "I am sorry, Lukas doesn't mean to be rude, nor to scare you. He's just frustrated; we're handling quite messy stuff here. If you can be of any help, miss, we'd appretiate it." I looked at the child and back at her, as pleasant as I can be "And we can protect you, both of you, if you will help us."

I grabbed the back of the ignorant brat's shirt and yanked her back to me, pinning her to my chest and poising my switchblade against my throat. I ignored the calls of the police officers, telling me to let her go; she was a witness. Even as they came towards me, I held her fast.
"Listen to me, Ms. Thing," I spat. "You better learn soon who the <********> you're dealing with, or else there will be dire consequences. I don't give two, three, or four shits what you are, what you believe in, whatever. It makes no difference to me, because I will not rest until I either have what I want, or you're dead on the ground behind me. So you better start talking. First know that I will never touch a hair on your sister's head, even though your previous remark about leaving her makes you a hypocrite. Second, I want to know what the hell you meant by my name being 'one letter off from what I am.' And thirdly: I want answers, and I want them now. Don't try any fancy footwork, or your blood - that, really, probably isn't all yours, and might, in fact, be that poor sap's down in the basement - is all over this nicely trimmed grass. This family was just brutally murdered; they don't want you ruining their yardwork."
I had never been this nasty or this serious to anyone that hadn't been proven to have murdered someone before, but, hey, circumstances change.

"Step off, Terry," I hissed, as I held my blade against the vampire's throat. "You don't need to get involved in this mess."
Okay, okay, I was being a little rough, but... was I really ready to admit I was in the wrong?
Nahhh.
I'm a guy.
Why would I do that?

"Lukas!" I was outraged at his behavior. What the hell did he think he was doing? That was the best way for them not to tell us anything. "Let her go, Lukas. Take a breath. The last thing you need right now is a fight with possible witnesses. Please." My eyes were right on his. He was really out of his mind...I had never seen him like that before. And all I could do was pray that he'd listen to me. Why do guys always have to act like they know everything and can handle everything, specially when they end up messing it all up?

Mave smirked flirtaciously and said to him in a low whisper, "I don't think you'd want to kill the only witness who knows what she's talking about..." And, minding the blade, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him passionately.

[[Bahaha, drama, much? ^^]]

I was too stunned; I didn't know what to do. My arms fell limply to my sides and I let the girl's lips press against mine - a girl whose name I didn't even know.
Once again, I'll use my gender as an excuse.
Sure, I mean, technically I wasn't ignoring Terry; I put the knife down, right?

Mave pulled away almost too soon. "Hmm. That could have been better. I mean, you could have actually done something, rather than sitting there like a limp noodle." With that, she shrugged and backed up, turned back and winked. "Catch you later, Moron-- ahem, I mean... Morone."

I smiled, in a daze, as if I were on a drug. Waving after her, I realize what had just happened, sobered up, and dashed after the girl, grabbing her arm.
"Wait," I said. My voice cracked with nerves, and i cleared my throat. "Wait," I said again. "If you know something like you said you do, you need to fess up. Now. This isn't CSI: Sesame Street or whatever the hell it is they're calling it now. This is real life. So get with the program and pipe up."
My gaze was firm on her own enthralling eyes, and I had to keep myself from falling into those drowning pools.

"Sesame Street? Is that like, what, a pickup line for two year olds? Haha... open sesame!" She smirked and winked once more.

"I'm serious," I said. And I was.
Honest.
"If you don't start giving me answers, I'm going to turn you over to Detective Sanz, and believe me when I tell you he's an a*****e. Much more so than me. So I suggest you make that choice now, or else, seeing as your only other choice is fleeing the scene of a crime you're a suspect in, an executioner will be sent out after you."
I didn't agree with the whole executioner idea, truth be told. A little too Anita Blake for me. If a vampire or any supernatural being breaks a serious law, they are legally allowed to be executed.
This is in loo of the five strikes act while it's being re-examined.
Quite a difference, huh?
Note the sarcasm.

My words were caught in my throat. The girl turned back and KISSED him! AND he let her! Dumbstruck, I was paralyzed. Here I am, trying to get him to be nice to the b***h, and she goes and kisses him like that? And he stands there, looking like a teenager! Stupid, stupid, stupid me.
Feeling absolutely frozen, I fight the sudden tears that burn my eyes. No, I am stronger than that. And besides, hell, what was I expecting? It's not like we're together or anything of the sort. It's not like I mean anything to him, or he can't just go and kiss the first girl that drops on his path. Taking hold of myself, I gulp down the curse incantations that keep flowing through my head and assume a neutral expression, put on my usual smile, and watch the talk between them. After all, what else could I do?

"Ah... fine, fine, fine. I surrenderrr..." She rolled her eyes. "Whatcha got for me? Or, no-- can we take Phoenix home first? I don't want her here... vulnerable."

"Fine, I'll have a unit take her home," I said. I called over my shoulder to a deputy and told him what to do. The deputy asked what her address was.
"You go and give him your address," I said. "But you come right back herre. We're answering some questions. Hear me? Good." As she walked towards the deputy, he stepped up next to Terry, seeing the pain on her face, even though she tried to hide it with a mask of flesh and smile.
"Terry, I... I don't know what just... I'm sorry..." was all I could manage. Truthfully, I felt terrible. Honest. I mean, i didn't even know the vampire chick's name, for God's sake. And I mean... it's not like she was the best kisser. But she was a girl. She had... girly parts. Of course I was going to be attracted. I was supposed to be. Eighteen years old, still technically a teenager. I was supposed to be attracted to her...
Right?
