Ryu chuckled at that, "Well, I guess when you put it that way, a person can have both."
After all Feng was a perfectly good and discplined fighter, it was just she was a bit nuts. Speaking of which what was she doing?
It was amazing how far a mer can get if she ran, but she paced herself, since she still hadn't tested her own limits since Donovan had tested her before giving her, her weapons. She ended up looking at the fields completely by passing the stables and tack room. Somehow, Feng ended up behind the barracks and was at the moment following the wall to find the front door.
Why?
Because she was curious like that.

Donovan nodded, he always had to keep reminding himself that the boy was actually much younger than his height would give away. It was hard to tell, for someone who was use to looking after little children like Lin.
"Or grow use to it," Donovan added, "It is, as you said could be just because it has been you and the rest of your family. It's not like Cindy and I have been here often."

Aliya laughed. "Well, you're the first person to agree with me on that score," she told Ryu, giggling. "Well ... the second. But the first one wasn't making fun of me at the same time."
She finished up the one side of the hall and moved to the other to check the other half of the expectant mares.
A tall, shadowy figure fell in behind Feng, perfectly silent in his movements. He could see that she wasn't dangerous, despite the fact that she seemed to be lurking, but he was curious to see exactly what she was doing - and why. And who she was, and why she was there. There was, of course, the fact that she was very pretty - beautiful, in fact - and he, notwithstanding his disfigured and scarred body (his face especially), loved nothing more than something beautiful.
"A lovely young lady, such as yourself, should not be prowling around like an intruder," he said in a deep, growling voice, though his tone was amused.
Ulrich smiled. "Yes, he was glad to see the two of you again. I'm sure that he'll get used to all of you by the time you have to leave again, he just needs time is all, really."

"Eep!" Feng whirled around to stare at a.. chest, she had to look up which was sad because she was use to being one of the tallest people back home, and only as a teenager too!
She stared a bit, blinking with wide eyes at the man before her, and her first thought was that she was snuck up on. Ai would have her head, but to be fair he was an elf and elves were like that. They were very quiet people when they walked, and it wasn't like she had Triton's hearing.
"I'm not prowling," Feng protested before she thought, "I was looking, there is a difference."
Ryu turned, as so to continue watching her, "Is that so?" he raised a brow.

"I see," Donovan nodded, "That is.. good to know."
Lin finally spoke up, she had been listening even though she didn't know Adonai very well, she felt sorry that he was that shy. It kind of reminded her of Serenity (her neice) in that way.
"Well, he just needs that person to stick around all the time and then he would get use to that person, because it always works. Well except with some people, some people turn into grumps."
"Lin... you're not still trying to stalk the man are you?" Donovan asked curiously.
"Uhm...no?"

"Stalk?" Ulrich repeated curiously, looking at Lin with an amused expression on his face. "Do tell - I'm curious to know what this is all about."
The elf chuckled, a deep throaty laugh, and his eyes, a handsome sea-gray, softened and sparkled. "Yes, I didn't think that you were prowling. You look somehow as though you belong ... but this place does seem to attract beauty, so perhaps I should not be so surprised."
It was strange how his words could make his terrible voice sound nice.
He made an elaborate, exaggerated bow, sweeping one arm out to the side and narrowly missing the barracks wall.
"My name is Halmír," he introduced himself; and, straightening up, he grinned at her, stretching the scar at the corner of his mouth, and asked, "And what might your name be?"
Aliya smiled as she checked the mare over. "I'll introduce you to him later," she told him. "He's quite amusing, really. My father's not so fond of him, but I think that was just because of a misunderstanding that happened last month. Father thought I was dating him." She rolled her eyes. "Honestly."

Ryu looked at Aliya, studying her form and recalled she was perhaps around the same age (if one could call it that) as he and his sister. He coughed a bit, nodding at her comment, "Well... I suppose we are all at that age where parents would think about that."
Or their fellow Seconds, this was the age before adulthood where they would look for mates. Feng had been actually quite serious in the problem he and his sister had been facing with the lack of potential mates among the Second race. Though neither of them were looking for anyone, it was something to consider in the lue of their three older siblings.
"Ah.." Feng bowed quickly, "I'm Feng Winters, it's nice to meet you."
His words, while familiar and nice sounded strange to her, but there was nothing wrong with it. Perhaps because it sounded a bit like those poetry books she had to read while growing up in school. That was probably it.

"Well, Earendil's Mommy once told me that Earendil's Daddy doesn't mind things once he gets use to them, and he wasn't so happy when I sat with him that first time. He was kind of shooing me off, but anyways..." she took a breath, "She said he just needed to get use to things, and so I thought if I stayed with him, except when he was in work because everyone says it's too dangerous, then he would get use to me and wouldn't be such a grump anymore."
She smiled up at Ulrich half hanging out of her Daddy's pocket.
"Normally he gives me to a guard to hold until he disappears, so I have to be quieter, except that one time he didn't notice me at all and I got as far as where he worked, but he was really really really grumpy that day so that doesn't count."

Triton blinked, trying to sort thorugh the whole story. This was one story he had not heard of out of all the stories about Lin and her adventures at the castle.
"Did she just say something to the effect, she is stalking Ruel?"

Ulrich burst out laughing, and he laughed long and loud, until tears sprang to his eyes and he clutched at his stomach to regain his breath.
"You," he laughed, looking at Lin, "are the bravest soul I have ever met! That's genius!" He continued to laugh. "Of all the people ..."
Aliya finished checking the last horse and gave the mare an affectionate pat on the neck before leaving the pen and closing it tightly behind her. "My older siblings were all married already at my age, apparently," she told Ryu as she joined him and started leading the way out again. "I mean, I never met them, but ... still. Apparently I have a niece three thousand years older than me."
She giggled.
Halmír smiled widely, and the scar on the corner of his mouth twisted even more. "Am I to understand that you are one of the children of our employer?" he asked curiously. "You are like no human that I've seen before ..."
He hoped that she didn't take that the wrong way, it was a compliment.

Ryu was grateful he was actually older than all of his nieces and nephews, there were others that could not say the same to that. He chuckled at the thought, "I've never had that problem, though there are a few of my younger siblings is the same age or nearly as some of the nieces and nephews in the family."
And there were a lot of them quite frankly.
"Oh... well," Feng giggled sheepishly, "I'm not human, I'm a mer. Our mother loves children a lot so she tends to adopt from any race."
Of course she wouldn't have taken it the wrong way, because to Feng it was just normal she wasn't like any human, since she wasn't. Granted, there was nothing on her that spoke of the fact she wasn't human like, which had never occured to her. Feng had been mainly banking on the fact she was unusually tall, not of her looks.

Donovan shook his head, that was completely encouraging her, though he had to smirk at it. He knew of Ruel of course, didn't like the guy, thought the man was a bigger a** than himself (which was saying something).
"Is it?" Lin blinked, "It makes perfect sense.. I think.... I'm still trying," she looked at up her Daddy, "Not stalking, but that's good too. He's always muttering things and I don't know what he says, but I'm going to find out one day."
Somehow Donovan thought he should worry.

"So if you're not stalking him anymore," Ulrich asked, "what are you doing now?"
Personally, he couldn't stand the man - and he felt sorry for Serenity. As far as he was concerned, now that Riordan had disgraced the family, Ruel really was the only reason Serenity couldn't happily return home to her family. Then again, she didn't know yet about Elrohir's turnaround, nor did she know yet that he was living out here.
Aliya nodded. "Yes, I'd heard that you have an exceptionally large family, for mortals," she commented, opening the door and leading them out into the sunlight again. She waved at an elf that passed them, and he nodded his head politely and went inside.
"Still, it's not as if it's a bad thing, really," she went on, turning her attention to Ryu once more. "I mean, if I ever meet her, she'll be the only one who can tell me what my siblings were like - apart from my parents, of course, but they would have a different point of view."
She put one slim hand to her brow to block the sun's harsh glare from her eyes, and looked around for Feng. "Where do you think she might have gone?" she asked Ryu.
Halmír, for the first time in a very long time, was taken by surprise. He had known that their employer was no ordinary human, and that he had come from somewhere very far away (he didn't know whether or not he believed the bit about another world entirely), but ...
"What is a mer?" he asked, confused.

"Knowing Feng," Ryu mused as he looked about.
He wondered how hard it could be to spot a girl with glaringly yellow pants prancing around the place. Then again it was a huge place, probably quite hard he thought to himself.
"She could be anywhere where she could explore."
Which was just about everywhere.
"Oh... well..." Feng clapped her hands together thoughtfully trying to figure out how to explain this without having to transform back, "A mer, when they are in their true form, because I can't normally go walking about like this; have fish tails from the waist down."
It was hard to motion that since her pants was where her tail would normally start, and hence going all the way down for her.
"We live in the water," she explained.

"Well, I stilly play with Earendil," Lin replied, "And sometimes we get to practice in this slippery practice court. I use to try to get people to take me up the mountain but Haradhel now lives here so there's no one to take me up anymore, but I still try going up by myself."
She paused, as if to really think about what she just said, before amedning.
"Not really up by myself, Earendil keeps an eye on me," she nodded ,"And then sometimes I get to hear stories about the past from Sir Valdemar, and sometimes he would show me the magic book. He's trying to make another magic book with stories the first one doesn't have."
She paused again.
"Oh yea, I'm trying to learn how to speak like everyone so no one talks over my head."
