First, a few clarifications:
*Metallica, Pantera and Megadeth are thrash metal, not heavy Metal(for the most part).
*Manowar IS heavy Metal.
*Hammerfall is Power Metal, with Heavy and Speed Metal influences.
*Motorhead is speed metal.
Also a question:
Isn't Skid Row Hard rock? I'm sure that Skid Row's riffing is Rock-ish and not Metal-ish. But if someone knows much better It'd be good if he clarified.
As for Heavy Metal, I love it, it's my second favorite Metal Subgenre. My favorite Heavy Metal band is definitely Iron Maiden, with Accept and Dio being really close to Maiden. Maiden's music is magnificent, it's very melodic and beautiful, and singing can't get any better than the way Bruce does it. Also Maiden was a big influence on the development of Power Metal, and it remains a big influence in most modern Power Metal bands as well. A genre being based a lot in your sound is something worth being recognized and admired for. smile
