Siri squeaked at Monollius's voice. She tried to jump to her feet and back away instinctively at the same time, resulting in her tripping over her own feet and falling flat on her back. She quickly rolled to her feet, drawing her sword without concious thought. The girl planted her feet firmly onto the ground an faced Monollius.

"Excuse me?! Are you calling me rude, when you just popped out of the ground behind me without so much as a warning?! Jesus, you scared the s**t out of me!"

"Akuma." Willow muttered. "Doesn't ring a bell." She called to Rowan, "Rowan! Does Akuma sound familiar to you?"

"No." Rowan shook his head.

Aria blinked, disbelieving. She still hadn't been noticed. How was that possible?
Well, she wasn't about to start complaining. She began slowly moving backwards, careful not to step on any twigs.

Thank god they didn't recognize the name.
"Well, I might see you guys later, if the legend is correct the others of them should be appearing to, so I'll start searching. Bye." He turned around, put his hand over his right shouldr and waved as he walked off. He put both hands into his pockets and continued walking until he reached a spiral of wind in the air that carried a few leaves in it which he walked through and was teleported to his house. It was larger on the inside than it looked from the ouside, due to an expansion enchantment. He emptied his pockets, which held and ring with a blood red stone he'd found on the ground, and interesting feather, possibly that off a griffin, meaning it could be used for enchantments, and a fang he'd found that he just thought looked cool. Then, we went to his bed, which was more of a hammock with pads instead of a net. Her lay down and dozed off, falling asleep.

When Siri stood back up, weapon drawn, Monollius couldn't help but laugh at her quietly. "Well, I'm quite sorry to have startled you. However," he chuckled again, "I think you're quite overreacting. Relax, Lady Siri. Welcome back. Where did you go? I was quite offended by your sudden leave, but I am sure you have reason to do so. Mind if I ask what it is?" The Arch-Sage raised a curious eyebrow, the many wrinkles in his forehead shifting. "Was it truly me, or was something of dire importance brought to your attention?"

Siri had the feeling that, despite his words, Monollius was making fun of her overreaction. Scowling, she sheathed the sword and sat down, cheeks burning. She sat cross-legged on the ground, and decided to answer the man's questions. She grinned mentally. This could get interesting. She couldn't ever remember telling someone in her dreams that they were just that, a dream.

"Well, I woke up of course." She blinked at him, her own brow going up. "But what's your excuse? I came here and you were nowhere to be seen. Where'd you go? Aren't subsequent dreams supposed to go on continually?" She frowned at this. "Speaking of that...if you were just a dream, you wouldn't have even known I'd woken up, right? But you did. So this isn't an average dream. It must been something's bothering me...but I can't think of anything...That's obviously the point, though. I don't know what's wrong, so I must need to go on a quest or something to figure it out. " By this time, Siri was talking more to herself than Monollius, trying to figure out what her subconcious was telling her, "But still, he shouldn't have even known I left, that just doesn't add up. I wonder if he really already knew where I went, and was just asking to see if I answered truthfully."

She looked up at the man, crinkling her brow. "That's stupid. Why would I lie about waking up? What would be the point?"

Monollius listened with intrigue as Siri rambled on, eventually falling into a soliloquy with the Arch-Sage as her audience. She spoke to him as if he were a piece of her dream, a sort of wizened old mentor to lead her through the trials and tribulations of her subconscious self. It was like something out of an apprentice's novice essay. "I was napping right here," he replied. "I did not move a muscle. I'm prone to such acts... Narcolepsy, they call it. But on another note, Lady Siri, should something be on your mind, some internal argument with which you are debating, I could be of some assistance. All I need is your permission to delve into the depths of your conscience and discover what ails you." He moved slowly to stand at her side.

"I can dig to the very core of your persona, weed out all the cognitive dissonance, and guide you toward firmament and solidity of mind. A strong mind is a quick, decisive, and forthright one, much more capable of taking on the tasks required in debating, calculating, memory, and performing magicks. It's quite an experience, and a refreshing one at that." He smiled faintly, deepening the wrinkles in his cheeks. "All Lady Siri must do is ask."

"But," and he drew a deep breath, "If it is a quest you desire, look no further! I may also be of assistance in such a situation, as I myself am on a quest, and require assistance in order to bring it to fruition in an orderly and timely fashion. Either way, though, I believe I can aid you."

Siri snorted and stood up, brushing some invisible dirt off of her pants. "You were so not asleep. I got here and you were gone. Then you popped up behind me. Simple as that."

She took a step backwards as Monollius walked over to her, talking of magic and delving into one's mind. "Er...um, no. Sorry. But I don't think it'd be wise for me to let someone already in my mind go into my mind because that'd just be really confusing and probably painful and I think my head would explode and this is one really wierd dream." The girl rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. The thought struck her as to what would happen if she experience a headache while in her own mind. Would the world shake, trees falling and animals fleeing? Or would there be a fire, large and devastating? Maybe a tidal wave, because although there was no water around, this dream was already odd enough and maybe she would suddenly be transported to the ocean.

Siri imagined the world moving, the edges becoming blurry and rocks falling from an invisible ceiling, raining down upon them. She pictured Monollius, imagining the old man's reaction to rocks falling out of the sky. Siri grinned, covering her mouth to stifle a giggle. She heard Monollius say something about a quest, and tried to pay attention, realizing he must have spoken while she was spaced out.

"Oh...um...Yeah...The quest would be fine, I guess." She stuck ou ther hand for him to shake and -

A loud bang woke Siri up. She blinked and picked her head up from the back of the chair, working out a kink in her neck. Looking around, she saw the principal walking into the receptionists' area, the blinds on the door behind him swinging a little. He looked at Siri with a look of confusion and exchanged a few words with the receptionist. A few seconds later, he gestured to Siri to follow him into his office.

She zoned out after a few minutes, thinknig of her dreams instead of listening to the man's lecture. Occasionally, she would nod or try and look compliant, but other than that shewas in a different world entirely. She was pulled from her reverie when the principal stood up, holding his hand out to her. Siri managed to catch the tail end of his sentence.

"...a good student, and I don't want to punsih you, but if this happens again, I'm afraid there will be repercussions."

Siri nodded, putting on a ashamed face and left the room, dismissed. She got the time and a late pass from the receptionist, and walked up two flights of stairs to her favorite class.

"Lady Siri, I would certainly like to remind you that for all philosophy on the matter, no man or woman has yet to prove that reality is mere creation of preformed subconscious ideologies or anything akin to that theory. Therefore--" As he was raising his hand, Lady Siri simply vanished. Vanished before his very eyes. Gone, just like that, without a word, sign, or slightest hint of change. "...This is going to be problematic, I see. Regardless, I shall wait, for she shall certainly return." He drove his staff into the dirt beneath him and began to sit. The staff caused the earth beneath to quake for just a moment. Then the earth rose beneath Monollius and built a throne for him to seat himself. And he waited.

Kat sighed and leaned on an ancient looking tree. and then sank into it.
She was inside the tree, seeing the sap going to its needed places, its great 'heart' pumping it wherever it need to go. she could see it growing slightly, a fraction at a time, and it was so beautiful that tears shimmered in her eyes. she wiped them away, and pushed herself back, and.
Sat down hard, looking at the tree. 'well, that was weird. still, knowing greek mythology, i'm probably a dryad. yay me.' she sighed, then an idea came to her. she stepped into the tree, and willed herself down its roots,l into the soil, and then into another tree. she stepped out, surprised to find she had come a long way, and was nearly at the edge of the forest, where it came into a great plain. looking back, she realised they were both oak trees. 'hmm, maybe im one of those dryads who can only connect with a certain type of tree. if thats so, i hope theres a lot of oaks in this world. a lot of the tree's here seem to be hazel or willow or something else.'she stepped into ma another, willed herself into the ground, then, sensing no oak tree's nearbye, returned to one at the edge of the forest, and set off at a walk.
she noticed a man on an earthen throne nearbye, and decided to head for him. 'who knows, his story might be interesting' she took a step, then.

She jolted awake, realising that she'd drowsed off for an hour. she quickly finished her homework, and hurried downstairs, where her mum was finishing off tea. she ate with her, the hurried upstairs, to try and get back to sleep. she started to read the silmarilion, and after a few words felt herself drifting off..

Kat opened her eyes, still, on the plain, and hurried towards the strange man. as she came closer, she realised he seemed quite old, and wondered..

Siri walked into art, givng Ms. Bacir her late pass. The teacher smiled politely, and told Siri that, although the period was already half over, she could still do the assignment, if she wanted. When Siri nodded enthusiatically, Ms. Bacir said, "Today's project is simple. All you have to do is make a landscape portrait. You can paint it, sketch it, colour it, mold it, do whatever you want. It needs to convey some sort of emotion."

Grinning, Siri went to her usual desk. She pulled out a piece of paper and a pencil from her bag, placing them on the table. She tapped the end of the pencil on the table twice, before getting an idea and going to work.

She finished by the end of the period and handed in her drawing with thre rest of the class. Waving to Ms. Bacir, Siri walked out of the class and into the hall. She went to lunch, and after that, English. She went the rest of the day without incident.

On the bus, Siri stood awake, not caring to be hit with another stray plane. She got off at her regular stop and walked the mile to her house. There, she paused, looking guiltily between the phone and her bed. As she had no other classes with Sara, she'd promised to call her as they passed each other in the hall. On the other hand, she could just go to sleep, take a little nap...return to her dream. It was really quite intersesting, if not confusing.

Mind made up, Siri place her bag on the back of a chair, and crawled under the covers, snuggling into her pillow. She'd unplugged the phone on her way into bed, and her door was shut. It would be more than an hour until anyone else came home, so hopefully Siri would be able to sleep until them. She would call Sara when she woke up, claiming she had been doing homework.

Siri pulled the blankets tighter around her own body, and fell into sleep.

At school, on Ms. Bacir's desk, there was a pencil drawing of a grassy plain. Deer and birds were placed in and above the field, and the sun was rising in the distance.

*~*

When Siri opened her eyes, she once once again on the plain. This time, it seemed Monollius ahd been waiting for her. He was seated in a throne of what looked like...dirt? Well, that would explain the pile of soil she'd taken to be a dead body on their first meeting. Vaguely, Siri wondered how time passed in this world, her dream world. She'd spent roughly six hours awake, but that seemed a rather long time for Monollius to wait for her. Maybe she'd only been gone a few minutes.

Clearing her throat, Siri looked at the sage. "Er...sorry about that. My principal woke me up. I'm still up for the quest, though, if you want." She felt rather silly, apologizing to her own subconcious. Still, it had seemed rude not to.

As she spoke, Siri's eyes rose to scan the plain that she'd drawn for her art assignment. It really was beautiful. The more she came here, the more she appreciated it. At first, it had just seen so...empty. But now, that emptiness signified peace and tranquility. Still, a little more life wouldn't hurt.

Just as this thought arose, Siri caught movement in her periphial vision. She turned her head fast enough to get a crick, so she could focus on the action. It was a girl. She was just...walking. Towards her and Monollius. And...was her hair green?! Siri stared at her for a few moments before looking Monollius, wondering if he'd noticed this new appearance.

Kat blinked as she saw the girl suddenly appear, nearbye the oldish man. she decided, as they were still a long ways apart, to see how fast she could go around here. she took off at a run, trying some somersaults and cartwheels as she went, before skidding to a halt about 30 metres, and walking sedately the rest of the distance. 'hhmm, i guess this body is ok. still prefer my one though. to much green on this one.'

"This isn't worth it." Willow muttered as she made her way back to the lake. "I'd rather get consumed by a mass of shadows than chase a bunch on morons around the hills."

"I know what you mean," Rowan agreed, "This is getting to be more trouble than it's worth."

"What are we gonna tell our Lady?" Willow sighed sitting in the sand watching the small waves come up to her and take a half step back.

"Oh, I don't know." Rowan replied flatly, nestling himself into a space made but the thick lower branches of an old tree.

Francis rolled over. Why couldn't he fall asleep? It was just past one thirty in the afternoon, that could be why. Rolling over again. But he had to. He sat up and trotted down the stairs, determined to find something to eat.

Nothing appealing in the fridge or the cabinets, too bad. He'd have to go get something. Francis pulled on some boots and wrapped himself in a heavy jacket.

It was beautiful outside, if still bitterly cold. Trudging down the street, the sounds of children playing and shouting filled his ears. He only had five bucks, so he couldn't get much.

Black ice is rather common in the American Northeast region and a danger to people and cars. The worst thing about it is that it's very hard to see until its too late.

And is was too late.

Francis's foot is the ice and fell out from under him as he crossed the street. The boy hit the road hard and looked up, there was a van rumbling toward him. The breaks screeched, but ice is a hard mistress.

Francis shut his eyes tight, hoping to be okay. The vehicle hit him hard and he blacked out.

Aria hesitated as Rowan and Willow left. She was frightened of them, really frightened of what they could mean, but she was more frightened of the enormous thing she'd almost met in the woods. She worried her bottom lip as she crept carefully after them.

Eventually, they came back to the lake, and Aria watched silently as Rowan settled himself in the lower branches of a tree, and listened to their conversation.

Her brow furrowed slightly. Consumed by a mass of shadows? What was that? Some sort of saying, like the faerie version of 'I'd rather eat dirt'? Their lady, she supposed, would be the Bright Lady, or the Summer Lady. In most of her books the Bright Lady's name was Tatiania, and the Night Lady's name was Mab, but she couldn't assume things would be the same here.

She suddenly noticed that there was something dark moving towards her, and then froze as her brain processed what it was. It was an enormous black snake, as thick as her waist and at least twice as long as she was tall.

She stared at it with wide, petrified eyes, quite unable to move or even scream. What would happen if she died here? Would she wake up? A voice sounded in her head, a voice she recognized after a second as Morpheus from The Matrix. "The body cannot live without the mind."

"That is unhelpful on a truly spectacular level," she snapped. The sound of her own voice seemed to unfreeze her, but the snake was already far too close to run away from. Squeezing her eyes shut, she put her hand up, palm out, to shield herself.

A strange feeling, similar to how sunlight felt on her bare skin, traveled down her arm and exploded out of her palm, and the snake let out a high, shrill sound that she didn't associate with snakes. After a second, she realized the sound was her screaming, and stopped, opening her eyes.

All that was left of the snake was a surplus of falling ash. Aria stared at it, disbelieving.
