I hated his mother too. She was such a b***h. And actually, yes, the fifth birthday thing was what I was thinking of. I mean, it was a horribly sad scene, but Erik's reaction was more that of a spoiled child than a uniquely intelligent prodigy. It was something Gerik would do...not nessecarilly the original Erik. At least, that's how it struck me. Despite the temper tantrums though, I thought Erik was quite well portrayed through that time period. Though the best portrayal of him, I'd say would be the time he was living with Giovanni. The girl though, Luciana, reminds me of a lot of phangirls today. I only hope if he was real and I ever had the chance to meet him, I wouldn't be that bad. I wouldn't try to break his stuff to get his attention. The little b***h.
:'D I was happy with that happened to her. Honestly. What the HELL sort of logic is that?

"I'm a spoiled brat! Erik won't pay attention to me! He's obviously busy! Daddy said that he wanted to hurt me or something! YAY! LET'S SMASH THINGS!"

...WTF?! gonk
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 8:07 pm

Haha. I never said I liked Luciana. She really did deserve it. Wanting to see his face, not listening to what her father had to say, then freaking out when she didn't like what she saw. I'm just saying, a lot of phangirls are like that. Not neccesarilly any of us, but I've encountered them a little too often in the Official Phantom of the Opera Thread. They're all like "OMG! TEH PHANTOM IS SO SEZZY heart !!!!!111" and then they leave, not being at all commited to PotO except to rant about how much they love Gerik. I bet half of them'd faint if they saw an actual deformed guy somewhere. So Luciana makes me think of them, obsessed with the fantasy and disgusted by the reality.

It makes you wonder what she thought he was really hiding behind the mask. "Take off the mask! Oh look candy!" She was so retarded...but I really did love the relationship between Giovanni and Erik, it was sort of the father he never really had, but then of course he ended up transferred over to my hate list when he was like "yeah...maybe you should take off the mask oh look candy!"
PostPosted: Tue Aug 16, 2005 8:22 pm

Seriously. Why the hell would somebody wear a mask for no good reason? 'Cause it's cool? 'Cause he plays dress-up 24/7?

To Homeland Security: Okay, we've caught some guy who's wearing a mask and won't take it off. He must be a terrorist!

It's not the most normal thing to do, regardless of what time period you're in.

gonk I totally agree. Our school is huge, so we have a LOT of people with slight, strange deformities. Most of them you can't see... (Like the birthmark on my ear, the fact that half my face doesn't blush, and the tear-duct on that side's malformed and doesn't work, and my friend has a HUGE raised, multicoloured birthmark on her head that her hair covers), but we see a lot of really strange kids...

There are a lot that sit in wheelchairs limply to the side... One girl has no legs... we have one guy with cerebral palsy that shakes all over and... there's something... just... not quite right with his face. And he uses a walker. (e.e; And he practically stalked me last year because I was one of the few not to be bothered by that and treat him like an actual person.) And then we have a... tiny person. A boy.

And... D: I know a LOT of people stare at them. And think like.. "HOSHITWTFSWRONGWITHYOU?!"

Now... come on. Half those preppy girls doing that are ranting about Gerik, like.. "OH, YEAH. DEFORMITIES ARE HOT."

THEY HAVE A HARSH REALITY TO FACE. AND IT'S ALL AROUND THEM. AND IT'S NOT "HOT."

I'm sorry. confused That just REALLY pisses me off when people say that they can love Erik, even with his deformities, and freak out when a boy two years older than them walks by, and he's up to thier knees.

...sorry. ...anyway... ninja

But honestly. That sickens me. If you can't look a girl in the eye who had a horrible, traumatic accident when she was a baby and had to have her elgs amputated... if you can't look that girl in the face, and treat her like a normal person, how do you expect to bear something like Erik's horrific deformities?! I just... I don't understand these people. They both anger me and make me cry at the same time. neutral I myself have to admit that I probably would be so incredibly freaked out to see something like that in real life, that I'd have a huge problem dealing. And that's kind of saying something.

Yes. It pisses me off endlessly too. Which is why I rant and rave at them that they have no idea what they are talking about, and that Erik is not supposed to be "SEZZY".

The inside of my mouth is kinda deformed. And one of my pupils is slightly larger than the other one sometimes. And I have some really freaky eyebrows.

Just felt like adding that.

(I think Gaia ate my post... reposting... gonk ) Hah. Slight deformities are actually kind of fun. My friend cheered me up sooo much... when she was still like... a huge Gerik fan... (She's been educated now... xd ) She always associated Erik with half of a red, mottled, tear-streaked face.

So... one day, I was crying in the bathroom (Don't make me go into that... D: ) and she came in to see if I was alright... and my perfectly normal, pale, dry side of my face was towards the door, and she called my name, and I turned, and the entire left side of my face was bright red, and soaked. So she shouted out, "ERIK IS VISITING THE GIRL'S BATHROOM! <3" And... just... the tone she used... o_o Hysterical laughter ensued as we tried to figure out exactly WHAT Youko the Erik would be doing in the girl's bathroom.

...sorry. o_o; I was just thinking of that.... *moving on now.... xd * What a wate of your time, reading this! xd

Youko: I actually knew a "little person" back in kindergarten. His name was Caleb. He was the coolest kid I knew. I think I saw him once in Middle School, too, but I can't be sure. My memory is le terrible.

On the subject of Luciana: If there was ever a fictional character that made me madder, I cannot think of them at this very moment. I could not believe how utterly spoiled and incompetent this girl was, even with such a genteel father. While mild-mannered men like that (without wives) tend to let their daughters do as they will, I would think him being in Italy as it were, would give him the temper to know when to slap her. And while I can see her lack of a mind would lead her to the childish aggrivation-because-they're-in-love bit (which btw is also cliche and rather aggrivating) Kay went a tad too far with it and especially to say that Erik had just about mutual feelings of adolescent affection. I would think he would loathe the girl for being as scatter-brained and catty as she was.

Also, I think her death was justified. Served the b***h right, if I might say so. She shouldn't have been up there in the frst place, much less bringing her Father into the situation by making him tell Erik to take the mask off. Just what was she going to do if he didn't? Throw herself off the roof and call it murder? I think not.

On the subject of deformities:
While I hold no real expertise to this, my theory in point is Erik was a victim of FAS, or Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. The effects are similar to what he had, but then again so are a lot of diseases. I merely cling to this theory simply because there was a love for the drink (namely wine by Catholicism standards) and people did not know its effects on pregnant women's children.

And while that's a tad off-subject, I bring it 'round just because (if I remember correctly) Erik's mother drank a good bit. Yes, yes, a lot of people did, but that's not really what I'm going for here.

In this day and age we still hold a mediocre acceptance of the deformed and mis-shapen. We may not call them demons or mark them as "untouchables" as they did then, but we still have those amongst us who cringe at the sight of a child with a mental disorder. Those who are disgusted by the "special" children. It's never going to go away. We hold too high a standard for what people should be and those who cannot ever reach it because of a disease brought about by genetics or their own stupid parents are often ridiculed and hated.

Society will never be perfect and though we're more accepting of the imperfect, it's not even a whole step forward.

((curse you people. I love debates. >< ))

neutral Yep.

...we can still talk about... uhh... o_o ...

...can you explain this whole... why-does-everyone-look-like-everyone-else thing in the Kay book? gonk I don't understand... are Christine and Erik related then? Does that make Christine's child possibly not Erik's...? What's with the coincidence with the kid's name? Am I thinking too deeply? e.e;

T'is my curse. I love debates too much, but I can never really participate long because then I tend to override my temper. >_o But I think too much anyway.
