Quatre is one of my favorite characters, actually. Even if people don't like his character in general, his role is more than necessary in the storyline.

Quatre may not be my favorite pilot, but he's still cool. Quatre hate = not cool. D':
Why do you hate him so much, gundam fan zero? Is it because he's not an absolute powerhouse, like other pilots? Why is that a bad thing?

what i have against him is i hate his guts. his personallity gets on my nerves. in fact i really wish he would'v died on the series. i also think that he is way too emotional to be a gundam pilot. i mean duo is the next most emotional but he is emotional in a different way so i woudn't classify them in the same category.

Wow, that's some pretty unbridled hatred there...but to each his own. However, I personally feel his personality was pretty efficient in evening out the character types...I mean they all couldn't be tough, silent, hardened people. It needed a little bit of diversity there and Quatre certainly provided that. Besides, his gentle nature served to pull everyone together. Without him, the others probably would have been fine trying to win the war all on their own...which obviously would have gotten them crushed.
However, everyone has peeves about others...

I'd actually say that Wu Fei is pretty emotional, too. The turmoil and confusion of his emotions sometimes get the better of him, and he makes decisions that seem irrational (like joining Mariemaia in Endless Waltz). Then again, who doesn't every now and then? Quatre is cautious and gentle. All of the pilots care about others, he is just more open about it.

Well... I like Quatre, and am glad he didn't die. He's the brains of the outfit (when he isn't being insane of course...)
I'm currently re-watching the series for the eight millionth time... and I'm struck by several things. For instance, the blinkers some characters wear (*cough*Relena*cough*) concerning the actions of themselves and others... plenty of people do things just as violent and odd and out of character as Zechs does in wanting to drop large chunks of crap on Earth... but he gets treated like an evil pariah for it, while others don't. Treize becomes a hero... Une gets to be Preventer Mom... Relena gets to be Queen of the World and blats at everyone about pacifism, yet she demands that Heero kill Zechs without a qualm... and she turns very readily to firearms for someone who, you know, is now the poster child for pacifism... *grumbles*
Zechs ain't perfect (he's just perfection... *grins*) but he's not nearly as bad as some others. The way she reacts (and sometimes fails completely to react!) to him is just... mean. My brother makes me nuts sometimes, but I would never do to him what she does to Milliardo...
It's like everyone else can do whatever they want and their friends explain it away--but Zechs is the goat no matter what. *rolls eyes* Must remember to remind myself, these are cartoon characters and fictional.... *grins*
But it's the diversity and the plot twists and the "built-in reality" of the series that makes it hold up for me, time and again, where the other Gundam series just don't have the same charm.

Recall that most, if not all, of Relena's more violent moments are before the series is even halfway done. She's still pretty confused about who she, as a person, really is at that point, like many spoiled teenage girls.

True enough... but realistically speaking, they're ALL pretty young. At the start of the series Zechs and Noin are what, 19? Treize and Une are 25? Relena and the G-boys are 15... onset of puberty... but heck, they've all been thrust into Extreme Adulthood by circumstance and birth.
It just breaks my heart when Relena refuses to hug her brother back. sad He's been through a lot by that point, and she comes across rather callous even when he's being... odd. She does improve later, but still...
Ah well! That's what makes the series fun. smile We all have our opinions!

I can see your point about her reservedness against Milliardo when he hugs her.. (you mean on Libra, right?) But if my brother was about to let me get shot down while attempting to kill other people which I know is totally against our family background...I'd feel a little more than neutral towards him too xp
Then again I agree that Zech's/Milliardo is not the evil guy everyone portrays him to be. He wanted the war to end and he was willing to risk everything to make it happen: that in itself is noble.
However, he was taking it upon himself to dictate the lives of thousands, was willing to kill on an overly massive scale without regards to the innocent what-so-ever and trying to rid himself of all sympathy/feeling in the process...
Yea, I can see why some people would see that kind of Mo as screaming "Hitler."
Then again....again...he didn't destroy the earth and we find he just couldn't shake that darn emotion thing...so...
Who knows?

Exactly... and that's why GW is such a compelling series for me. The characters are NOT one-dimensional, they have depth, they all do wonderful things or evil things or both and then change when you least expect them to. smile I really like that because it is realistic!!
What Zechs tries to do is no less evil than other things attempted by other characters, who are then considered good guys later on. They all have theyr "stupid pet tricks" moments, just like real people.
And when you come right down to it... if Relena wasn't mean to him there'd be less chance to write angsty fanfics where she believes him dead, realizes she was wrong about him or that he had a change of heart... and now she can't tell him. *grins* I'm working up the notes for a story that takes place after EW, when she goes to visit Zechs on Mars and they... talk a few things out... at the top of their lungs... LOL!
