"I'm most often willing," Michael admitted. Sometimes he was hiding, or angry, or simply gone for days at a time. It was fair to say that, on those days, he wasn't willing to go outside or, at the very least, Maia should not allow him to possess her.
"I've always enjoyed children." it was a shame he'd never have any.

"What would you like to do next time?" Maia asked. "Do you want it to be a surprise, like today?"
She paused, and would have taken Michael's hand were he not possessing her. "From what I've seen, you're good with them," she said. He'd certainly seemed to make Alexander's afterlife brighter.

Michael thought on it and found he had no good answer.
"Surprises are fine," he said, "I'd say 'I like surprises,' but that could be grievously misleading." He noted the careful tone in Maia's voice then and waved a hand-her hand- dismissively.

"Alright," Maia smiled. Surprises could be fun; she'd have to consider what Michael would find enjoyable. "I promise not to make anything too surprising," she added.

Had Michael not been smiling and radiating warmth as he spoke, his continuing statement may have been much more unsettling.

"Oh, I know," Maia assured Michael with a smile and a shake of her head. "I think you'll like them, though," she said. "Want to keep going?" She asked, gesturing down the path.

To outsiders, it looked like Maia had bowed and gestured for herself, and then walked through and on.

Maia walked on, enjoying each of the plants lining the path. Some weren't in bloom--presumedly Spring flowers. "Which are your favorites out of these?" She asked.

Michael gradually paused and looked around. He decided on small flowers growing around the base of a bush; little purple things, dainty, and almost definitely wild. "These."

The little purple flowers? Maia was surprised. "They're beautiful," she said. She probably wouldn't have noticed them if Michael hadn't been with her. "Dari and Cody have a mountain they go to with a field full of flowers. I've never been, but I wonder if I can get them to bring some seeds?" She could plant them in Toby's garden at home.

"Dari already brought some home," Michael said. Had he told him? No. It was just one of those things.
"He said that his boyfriend is vising Headquarters soon."

"Did he?" Was that ghostly mind reading, or had Dari told him? Maia wasn't sure. "Cody's supposed to, yeah. But between you and me, he's scared of pretty much everything," Maia shook her head. "Try to be nice," she added.

"Yes, that's what Dari said. I will if I can." His angry days waxed and waned like anything else. He had less control some times than others. "He's not one of those over-curious types? I hear that they exist. Of course, people think they are until they actually meet me."

"He used to be," Maia said, thoughtfully. He'd been reading a magazine about aliens when Dari'd first met him, after all. "but I don't think he's actually asked much since Dari came out." She smiled then. "You've got to admit, you're pretty impressive. Kevin thinks you're the coolest."
