Maia smiled and walked over to the flowering bush indicated. "It's lovely," she commented. She bent slightly to look at the flowers closely. "I'm glad you decided to come with me," she said.

Every sense, so long disappeared, was strong and stark. It was part of the reason ghosts possessed people and stayed, he figured. There were plenty of legends about hungry ghosts and lascivious ghosts. That warm approval cropped up again, stronger than the usual trustful comfort, and he took a little liberty in reaching out to touch a bloom. It was soft, like he remembered. He was gentle in his movements.

Maia smiled. She'd wanted to take Michael out to see flowers again before the end of summer. Things always seemed more vibrant this time of the year. "Do you think something like this?" She asked.

"Whatever will live the longest," Michael replied. He wasn't sure if plants would still shrivel at his presence. He was more in-control now, but he wasn't sure he actually got any say.

"I heard some plants live for years and years," Maia considered. "Roses are supposed to live for a long time. Maybe a miniature?" She asked.

Michael wasn't sure. He considered it. Would roses have enough sun in his windowless room? They must not. Would they last if he starved them accidentally during one of his trips into oblivion? No, not likely.

"I don't know. Perhaps it isn't the best idea."

"We could find other flowers," Maia suggested. Something that was low maintainace. Something that didn't need much sunlight. "We can ask at the store."

Michael nodded. He knew nothing about succulents or, really, most flowers that grew around the time he was alive. He had seen them. He sort of remembered them. He didn't know their names.

"The store?"

"I'm going to take you shopping after lunch," Maia said, and smiled. "We'll find the perfect flower." One that lived a long time, didn't need much care, and could survive in dark places.

"Alright." Michael smiled slightly. He hadn't been shopping in... how long? It all sort of blurred together. When was the last time he had even been in a store? What were they like any more?

"Shall we?" He gestured out toward the path, but with Maia's own arm.

Maia smiled. She looked towards the path and nodded. "Let's." At least people would stay well enough away, thinking she was crazy.

As they continued, the most Michael accomplished was leading Maia's gaze now and then. He noticed things that others may take for granted. For example, that tree was rather pretty even if it had no flowers, and that baby in the stroller there was pretty cute.

Maia noticed the baby as well, and paused. "Did Toby tell you about the baby we saw in Oregon?" She asked. She was careful not to say nymph, in case someone was listening. "She was really sweet. I think Toby got attached." Seeing Toby like that had been nice. "I'd never seen him with a baby before."

"He did not," Michael said, "I have seen him, on occasion, with the child of a haunted family. That's all. I can't say I know much about him outside of work."

"He was happy," Maia said. "He really lit up, the mission was hard on him." But if Toby hadn't confided in Michael as to why, it wasn't her place to. She paused, bending to another flower bush and admiring it. "I'd like to take you out more often," she said.
