Detective Murphy, a couple of feathers in a pouch, is talking to an Ornithologist.

"You say these Feathers where found at a kidnapping, and an assault?"
"And an arson."
"Odd. These feathers... the red ones are most likely from the Plumage of a bird, because of they shape and texture, but it would be an extremely Large bird... Like an Ostrich or Emu, except.. these are long and tapered, like that of a species that can fly. Your white ones all seem to consist of Flight feathers, But the wingspan must be incredible, over seven feet."
"Could the feathers be from the same bird?"
"No.. I doubt that, the flight feathers and the plumage feathers have different size indicators. Your Red feathered friend is going to be larger... or have disproportionally small wings. In my opinion, your looking at two. Their is something else you should know about these feathers."
The ornithologist took the feathers to a microscope and motioned for Murphy to look through "you see where the Vanes start on the Quill, Below that is some kind of Fur, I'd hazard a guess that its probably Feline. Both sets of feathers have that, fur growing on the lower quill. You red Feathers have a tawny gold color, while your white ones have more a brow, with verigation. Thats the other reason I think you have two of these strange birds at your crime scenes."
"Bird, with Cat fur?"
"When you find this creature, if you do, I'd love to examine it. I've never seen a bird with fur before... They have down, why fur?"
"Better yet, why at my crime scene."
