LOL

I'm honestly not sure if we're going by art or sheer amount of awesome, because, frankly, when it comes to MTG's dragons, excluding changelings (because we all know Chameleon Colossus is the best [insert creature type here] in Magic), it doesn't get much more awesome than Karrthus.

Elemental Draconis

If you like dragons, you're gonna love this:

She's not THAT worth it in a deck, but I do like her. She can send my dragons out. 8D Bad thing: She's not my colors.
But I do like her art too.

I have chameleon colossus... I put it in my beast deck instead of my dragon one.

Karrthus? Nevermind, I see him. AND HE'S MY COLORS!~ tempted
Still, in my opinion, MtG trumps all TCG art. I haven't seen anything else to change my mind. And MtG is pure awesome, in my opinion. But I am biased.

Because the art matters more than the game itself, obviously... And Japanese art is much better than American art, anyday. xP Magic the Gathering's art is much too complicated and cluttered, unlike Yu-Gi-Oh's.

I lose it all in Winter.
All this fat goes to feed the starving orphaned puppies.
You wouldn't deny starving creatures their food, would you?

I like a combination or art and game. I mean, it's what I look for in Video games normally. Visually appealing games with a good story/play style.
Psh, that's VERY debatable. Magic the Gathering hosts several artists from across the globe! My favorites are Dave Allsop and John Avon, and several more. DeTralizi (forgive me, I don't know how to spell his name) drew a few cards, and so did Ciruello.
And if I wanted, I can draw for them! It's the artist's representation of the cards, so it's not complicated. I find it as "art". There are plenty of simple cards that aren't that cluttered. Items cards and a few sliver cards are good examples. So, in my opinion, Magic the Gathering has much better art.

@ Kaos:
So! It will work! Well, it did in Kung Pow!. Haaaaa, such a funny movie.

Honestly, I hate it when people pick art, or graphics, over gameplay. >> I was just trying to defend Yu-Gi-Oh's art because clearly everyone here thinks art matters more. It's more of a preference, anyways. I extremely hate it when people prefer realism in art or in games. >> Just look the ******** outside and that's as real as it gets. I don't see why people can't just enjoy cartoony art but instead have insist that the art that their precious little Deity eyes gaze at have to be looked upon realistic art. >>

lol it's not complicated... If anything, Yu-Gi-Oh!'s is too simple. Plus, MtG's art is taken from a variety of artists, so I would guess there are some japanese artists' works on some cards out there. P:
And MtG's game is better than Yu-Gi-Oh!'s anyways. Not to mention the fact that MtG is 6 years older and the first [modern] TCG.

Conclusion: Everyone here despises art that doesn't look realistic and can't enjoy simple art. As artists, I'm ashamed that you all don't realize that art's greatness isn't depicted by how realistic or complex you can make it, but instead is dictated by designs and how iconic you make it.

I'm done with this...
If only you knew how much I understand.
Simply done doesn't mean poorly done. I understand what you're saying. But in MY personal opinion some of the Yu-Gi-Oh! cards I've seen ARE poorly done. It's not that they have a cartoony style. I respect all styles of art, be it naturalistic, stylistic or cartoony. It's that they take a drawing of a monster and splat it on a background. On MtG's cards there's a background that creates atmosphere and you don't need to see the entire monster in the picture. In Yu-Gi-Oh!'s cards, there's no real fore/mid/background so they have to put the whole monster in the picture so it isn't awkward. But in some cases [such as large and long dragons] it still is, because you're trying to fit that big thing in the picture when you don't have to.
Don't talk to me about "simple" art. I KNOW simple can be effective. Ever heard of the KISS method? Keep It Simple Stupid.
Here's another one I like too. PPPEPPR. Piss Poor Planning Equals Piss Poor Results.
I'm done as well... I made my point.

Look, I'm sorry if we offended/upset you.
Well, I'm sorry if I did. I can't speak for the others.
It's not that I prefer realistic over cartoon-y styles, it's just how the art was executed with more flow, in my opinion. But as said, this is all opinion-based. There is no "real" better option.
I don't despise art that isn't realistic, hell, my art isn't realistic, and I draw it and enjoy it.
Art has many different versions and meaning to it. Starry Night is NOT realistic, and I think beautiful. There's a few Art Neuvo styles in the cards, and they're not realistic, and look like stained glass, and are quite beautiful.

But I will stop since you clearly do not like this debate.

This.
So much.

Magic actually has resource management, while Yu-Gi-Oh is about playing every single broken card you can get your hands on at once (or, at least it is from my experience with it).
