I am still musing over playing minecraft.
How do you go about playing with other people? Connecting to servers that are up?

You can play single player, or you can join a server and play with others. Of course you have to find out the servers IP for you but they list some popular ones on the minecraft website.
You can also download the software and launch your own server extremely easily.
Too bad they don't have a subscribe feature to guild topics.
The only way you can be alerted to a post is by someone quoting you...

Well, if you look at your guilds you can see the most recent posts in that guild.....like 5 of the most recent topics posted in. Not really the same or as efficient but yeah.
Still think Gaia needs to upgrade on the guild stuff. I mean wtf the page you type out your posts on is still the old style from like 2 years ago.

Yeah, but nooooo they shun the guilds because the majority of Gaia does not utilize them.

I feel like a ton of people use them but then again I am an RPer and mostly come in contact with other RPers and it seems that more RPers than anything use the guild system. Shrug

Yeah, there probably are a bunch of guild users but still I think the majority of users just go to the forums and play ZOMG / chill in rally/towns/etc.
Finding a guild takes a little work, and even if you do find one, you have to hope it is active or else people lose interest and disappear.
