Obviously there's a way to fix this problem.

Make a character that wakes up in a cave / ruins of a home / middle of a dead city. The character has amnesia, but has in one hand a weapon that they are highly skilled with and in the other hand, a bracelet or ring that has a woman's name on it. It doesn't matter if the character is male or female, it has to be a woman's name. Let's say this name is Trish. The character must not be older than fifteen.

After about three weeks of wandering and more than likely getting into a few fights, the character will remember his or her name - for the sake of argument, we'll say the character is named Alex, since that's nice and neutral. Alex continues to fight, never forgetting the name Trish or the bracelet / ring that they've been carrying around with them. Four to five years pass.

Eventually, the character will stumble across a piece of information - a poster, an old man telling a story, a blow to the head - that suddenly brings everything back to them. One of three things happens here. The first option is that they will realize that the name they remembered is actually the name of the person that killed their family - and it turns out it was them. The second option is that they realize the name they remembered and have been using is the name of the man (it has to be a man, regardless of name) that killed their family, and they quickly manage to track this man down and defeat them in savage combat. The third option is that they have a flashback to when they already defeated the man who killed their family.

In any case, the bracelet or ring is a gift given to them by their mother or sister before they died, more than likely in the arms of our amnesiac hero. After that, the hero will do one of three things once again. The first path is to carry the burden of murdering their family them for the rest of their life, which they will spend fighting in an oft-misguided attempt to repent for their sins. The second is to finally track down the man who killed their family and exact revenge, and of course, the third is to continue on their path of bloody rampaging murder until they pull up to the house about 7 or 8 And I yell to the cabbie 'yo homes, smell ya later' they look at their kingdom, they're finally there to sit on their throne as the Prince of Bel Air.
