"Both are real," Lori said, "and that's why you can't trust the program. This is the sort of thing that can only be learned with practice. That thing," he said, pointing to the creature in the woods, "was stealing infants from their cradles in a superstitious country. We shot it dead after it tried to rip one of our agents apart. She," he pointed to the dragon, "was just relocated seven months ago."

Infants from their cradles?! For a moment, Amari was horrified. She didn't want to imagine what a creature like that was doing with those babies. She swallowed and seemed to recover. "You had a dragon here?" She asked.

Lori just smiled. Yup. Welcome to the FBPI.
"We did. Even further 'under' we've got all sorts of habitats for entities that are more thing than person. We work a lot with the keepers because we have direct links to Archives and they can't be bothered to memorize anything."

"That's amazing," she said. So they really were prepared to help any sort of creature needing it. "What kind of--" she hesitated, looking to him for cues. Would asking what kind of entities they were housing now annoy him?
Amari decided to play it safe and not finish her question. "Do you want to try me on another image?" She suggested.

Lori's brows raised. She had seemed to be asking a question...
"It's alright. What were you going to ask?"

"Oh. I was just wondering what entities you might be housing," she said, blinking at him. "I've never really..." Seen anything like what he'd shown her. "Seen things, outside of memorizing those packets they gave me."

"Honestly, I hadn't seen much of anything before I came here," Lori admitted, "I mean, I knew it existed if I did, but my family booked it out of the rath and humanized a long time ago." He then answered her question without pause: "All we have right now is a phoenix. Most creatures don't need to be moved or don't need to be moved far."

"My family relocated here when I was small," she said, and nodded at him. "We humanized." A Phoenix, really? "Do their tears really have healing powers?" She asked.

Lori nodded. "Yes. That's not why we're keeping it, though. It was wounded, and a phoenix that's killed doesn't regenerate. That's why there aren't many, if there were ever many to begin with." He wanted it to be very clear that they weren't capturing and experimenting on entities for their own benefit. Supposedly a unicorn's blood could make you immortal, but nobody was about to try that! "Also, so far they're the only avian we've found that cries at all. A lack of tear ducts and all that."

"Oh, no, I didn't figure. I'm glad you're helping it." She gave him a smile. "I wanted to help other entities since we were helped. There aren't many where I lived before I moved here for the job, I don't think."
"Really? Huh."

Lori tilted his head and furrowed his brow.
"How long ago?"
Lori brought up another program and began typing classifications into the computer.
"Nevermind. Found you." His eyes ran down the file.
"Ah. I was still pretty new when you came up. I've been here twenty years or so. Entity employees has had a bit of an uptick since--" Toby. "Since Aikley."

Amari opened her mouth to answer, but it seemed there was no need. "I'm in the computer?" She asked, surprised. She'd been a child then. "A everyone you've ever helped in the computer?" She asked.

"Every case we've ever had is in the computer. You're 'low-risk relocation' for the record. Everyone and everything since the inception of our file-keeping is on a single server, hence the one-button fry. Agent Aikley happens to be the only person with that power aside from the Big Boss. I'm only in here under Personnel. My parents humanized of their own accord."

Every case ever. Amari tried to wrap her head around that. "So Agent Aikley's important?" she gathered. Maybe he was the best agent? "Do you like working here?" She asked, then, looking to Lori.

"He's Head Agent. Generally a good guy, too," Lori said, and then closed out the files. There were certain things interns were not supposed to see.
"Of course I do. I wouldn't be doing this s**t for twenty years if I didn't. I certainly wouldn't have stuck my thumb in as many pies, either."
