Kara Winters

PostPosted: Wed Jun 13, 2007 7:08 pm

Kara blinked looking up at the ceiling," Tends to wander back?" she questioned.

Was there something bad about storms?

"In her memories," Ulrich replied, tapping his index finger against his temple. He took a seat on the couch and stretched a bit. "We've come to the age where most of the people we knew in our lives are either dead or gone, and certain things rub it in more strongly for us. For her, storms."

He smiled softly, his handsome features smoothing into a look of kindness. "She'll be fine, though, don't worry. The storm should blow over by morning, and then she'll be fine, too."

"If you say so," Kara replied softly as she took a seat herself letting Miyu run around.

She wondered why Miyu wasn't so frightened of storms, she was nearly of a lot of other things.

Ulani came out of the kitchen with a tray of sandwiches, a flash of lightning lighting her from behind. Without a word, she set the tray on the table between the couch and the chairs - at least, it seemed as if she did it without a word. But as she set it down, her gaze was directed towards the fire in the fireplace, and her lips were moving ... and the fire went out with little more than a poof and a little cloud of smoke.

"Aye, best not let the wind spread the fire," Ulrich murmured, reaching forward and taking one of the sandwiches.

Kara nodded letting her eyes adjust to the light or lack there of as she grabbed a sandwich looking around for Miyu.

Miyu didn't like the sudden change and was scrambling around for an anchor so to speak to try and gain her bearings again.

Donovan came back, to a slighlty darker room, not that he minded though he watched the floor carefully for the other little Second that was probably running around. Good thing too, as he scooped Miyu up on his way to the couches before she could hurt herself.

"Sorry about that," Ulani murmured, taking a careful seat on the couch next to Ulrich. "We've had it happen before that the wind has spread the fire from the fireplace to the furniture ... actually, that's why we're in this house."

Ulrich nodded agreement. "We used to live way up on the mountain, on a plateau, but when it burned down we moved down here. This actually used to be Ulani's parents' house."

Ulani reached for some food and started eating. "I would offer you something to drink," she said apologetically. "But we finished the pitcher at lunch, and it's kind of a little too risky to go get more at the moment. I'm sure you understand."

Donovan shrugged as he handed Miyu a sandwich piece, "We'll deal, it's only until the storm ends," he replied as he grabbed one for himself.

Kara nodded at that as if to say it was find seeing as she was mumching on a sandwhich at the time. She didn't at all mind at least they were safe inside the building.

Miyu in the mean time looked at the large sandwich which took both her hands to hold. it was half tempting to whamp something with it, but she tried the best she could to nibble the side. She was too small to nibble the top.

Ulani smiled and turned sideways on the couch to lean against Ulrich's shoulder.

"You do realize that could be til morning," she replied to Donovan seriously, though her tone was light. "Though with it being so dark now, we might as well just head to bed ... it's not as if there's much else we can do."

"While trying not to sound as optimistic as Kara, morning is better than a few days," Donovan replied back drly.

He didn't have to worry about a whamp, that wouldn't come since Kara was busy with dinner, and she would have to think if it was worth whamping him over.

Kara gave Donovan a look out of the corner of her eye, but as he predicted she wasn't going to whamp him... quite yet anyhow. Seeing as it wasn't worth it, and besides it was hard to tell if he was joking or not.

"No one said anything about days," Ulrich chuckled, "though I do have to wonder at your spectacular timing. You seem to attract the storms, or have the worst luck of having one each time you're here."

"Nein, but the storms are also more frequent than they used to be," Ulani reminded Ulrich, reaching above her head to poke his cheek. "They used to be one a year - they're getting closer to one a month, lately."

Donovan raised a brow, "Is that so?"

He had been under the impression the land didn't change that much except for what nature did to the land. It seemed so self contained that it was hard to imagine that they would have changing whether patterns.

Ulani nodded. "It's not like it was sudden, or anything," she explained. "It's been slowly happening over the last three thousand years. You wouldn't notice unless you'd been here that long."

She finished her dinner and rose to her feet. "I'm going to sit outside for a bit. Why don't the rest of you go to bed, I'll see you in the morning."

And she disappeared out into the darkness.
