Mat
ok right now i have about 1000 point of guard but i still need to pick another troops choice.

Hq w/ Sential Support Squad (only one sent though)
Armoured Fist Squad
Leman Russ X2
Hellhound
Storm Trooper Squad

now all these round to to 984 points i think but im shooting for 1200

I have an Infantry Platoon W/ 2 squads that isnt added. do you think i can tool what im going to have out enough to make up the point difference

You seem to be lacking heavy weapons. You will need some heavy weapons, preferably both in the infantry platoon and as attached support squads. And unless you field the storm troopers as a Grenadiers squad the list is not legal.

Which arises a question withme: Do you plan on using Doctrines?

There are plenty of Guard experts around (I had my army list checked here by a marine player, shows just how messed up some things are around here...)

But what I would suggest for a solid 1k force is:

- Command HQ with JO or SO, one fire support squad and one anti-tank squad
- One infantry platoon with 3 squads, give each squad a heavy weapon
- A AF squad with meltagun
- A Leman Russ with three heavy bolters

You could take the Grenadiers doctrine and use a storm troopers squad as a troops choice, but you'll be lacking in punch and the abilty to absorb enemy fire.

While drop troops is a good doctrine, you are dependant on the mission type, seeing as unlike those trice damned Space Marines, we can't deep-strike in all missions. You are also prone to bad rolls for reserves, so Improved Comms on one of the vehicles is a must then.

neutral It seems you havent really run into a truly decent Eldar player.

They know what they''re doing it''s just the dice have the ability to screw them over completly.
IF theyre unlucky. The right Eldar army can be jsut as massed as a IG one, with equivelent tanks. Everything just comes down to the Dice rolls.

They are not going to be anywhere near as massive if you go with anything but Gaurdians at which point the cool assualt troops are out the window. And at that point it comes down to who is better at slugging it out. I have never heard of an imperial guard army losing to an army that actually has to get into lasgun range to effectivly return fire.

Multi-laser and heavy bolter. No questions about it, If you get into flamer range against anything you've failed miserably and Chimeras aren't very good tanks to ram the enemy lines with.

Multi-lasers are the swiss knives of the Chimera. Never leave home without one. I'm going to try an autocannon turret myself one day, already got the weapon ready, just need to get a sparw Chimera. stare And once I find an opponent that isn't so a**l about Forge World that is...

yeah now that im nearing the ful strength in point i want my army to be at, though i may go for 2000 im trying to decide what i want to do next. A Bane Blade would be cool and i know that most of the guy at my gamestore would let me feild it. (they would probley want to feild their Titans) But im also thinking about adding in some different vechiles like destroyers

Can't think of a better when then to baptize it! xd

Just don't do it with every guardsman, trust me, last time I tried I woke up three days later, blood loss can be surprisingly swift. *grumbles about having 200+ men that need to be done*
