how can it be technically a single horn. It's either one or the other.

No no no. I'm saying my REAL horn is a single horn. The one I'm using now is a double.

I love my double horn D=
I learned all the Bb fingerings, and the Fs are just like trumpet...

I'd settle for a single, but most are in F and I know Bb better O_o

And I think she's trying to say that she usually has a single, but she's using a double right now?

Dead on. smile Must be a girl thing. blaugh

...I wish our school had functional newish french horns. The Holtons are all dead, so we've got old Conns..
Bummer about the handspan. Mine works great for me =D

@ MutedMelodies: For some ultra odd reason, I can't seem to play a C and then a Bb in this one song we're playing.
It might be because of the pitches the trumpets are playing (their pitch gaps are bigger I think) , but it's probably me xD

Mine's from Yamaha, and the rest I know about it is that it's a double horn. xp

And yeah, I've got small hands. @_@

I need some quick tips on polishing a french horn! I don't have a polishing rag and I only have about 5 minutes or so I'm kinda screwed. stare Please private message me with some tips! Thanks!

I cleaned it with a cotten sock. 3nodding Worked wonders.

Haha on the way to our Christmas parade we cleaned our horns with the ball on the end of the santa hats. They shined like new.

I usually take handsoap (maybe even Windex) and use a paper towel to clean and polish the outside of my french horn. Shines to the point where it's painful to look at because it reflects the light so well. xD

We didn't either until we realized on the brass bus that no one, not even our director, had brougth a polishing cloth. So a baritone yanked his hat off his head and used the end and we all joined in. It must have looked really funny, thirty brass players bent over their horns using their Santa hats to clean them. smile

My single horn is back from repair and I'm so excited because now I get to use it for the concert and not someone else's. heart

Double horn is good because you get the sound of an F and the high notes of a Bb. I don't march though. But Bb horns just don't sound so pretty.
I used to use a compensating horn or something. I always thought it was a double becuase you could do both sides but it was missing some pipes.

I want to polish my horn now. I like shiney things.

Ever seen a triple horn? They're pretty sweet. Our horn coach at band camp was borrowing one, and the high notes sing on the second F side.

I've only heard of a triple horn. Must be a pain trying to keep track of everything on them.
