"It's all about working hard and livin' it up. So you guys work hard, while I live it up, got it?"They were almost home free...halfway out the path towards the HQ, when the worst had come to pass. Landing on the road before and behind them were the Buds of Megrez, almost as though they were trying to prevent the drummer and his companion from reaching the JPs officers with the information that he had gathered on their launch direction and potential distance/location. He didn't put it past these things...they were terrifyingly strong and seemed to always know when he was in the worst situation for dealing with them, choosing that exact moment to show up. And when one had fallen on the road in front and behind him as they just had, he did the only thing he could think of and wrapped his arms around his companion, tossing himself off the road and rolling down the hillside to his right, through the bushes in an impromptu escape...but the roll was steep and dangerous, his body shielding hers meant several gashes from sharp branches and twigs...
And at the bottom there was a rock he knew he couldn't avoid, level with his head...he curled hers into his chest safely and hoped that the possibly terminal velocity wouldn't result in his own untimely demise...but again, the Judge of the Underworld, Yama, had appeared and stopped his momentum just shy of the skull-cracking blow...allowing him to escape yet another impossible situation alive. But soon, all of these dangerous moments...these embarrassments...were going to reach a boiling point. Would he survive beyond that? So you guys work hard, while I live it up, got it?"He hadn't moved from the bottom of the hill since they had stopped, pulling up a seat on the grass and taking in the run of shitty luck that had hit him and wondering what he could do to try and turn things around. Somehow he had to make it back to the HQ, because it was going to be hard to demonstrate what he had seen without a blackboard or something to draw the diagram on. For now though, he decided to take a few minutes to catch their breath...to unwind from the near-death of multiple Bud attacks...and to flip open his phone and place a call to the woman in charge of the base to let her know what was going on. If they could send out some tamers to deal with the Buds, maybe they could get back to the HQ without another attack sending them within an inch of their lives.
"Sako? Yeah, got some shitty news for you."
"Makushima? Talk to me...what happened?! You were due back a while ago."
"Couple of Megrez Buds; dropped on the path to the HQ down the hill into town. Had to take a detour."
"Where are you?! Do you need help?"
"Down the hill...and no, we're fine. But someone had to kill those buds or we're not going to make it back. And I've got some information that might help us find the main body..."
"You do? ...All right, there's someone I know I can rely on. I'll call him and his friends and get them on it right away. For now, just stay safe...you and Anegakoji come back when I call you to tell you the path is clear, all right?"

So you guys work hard, while I live it up, got it?"Those damned buds were everywhere...that was the first thought in the drummer's mind as he looked out into the street from around a corner and saw one of them floating by, crumbling an abandoned warehouse with a Diastrophism before hovering even closer to where they were. If he was going to get past it, he needed a distraction...reaching into his pocket, he found some tokens from the arcade in Iwatodai that he had been intending to use later on the first day this happened and never gotten around to getting rid of since the Apocalypse happened. No use in keeping them now...he cursed and tossed them down the road, the clink against the blacktop distracting the cone-shaped Septentrione Bud just long enough for the rest of them to rush past and closer towards the road back.

So you guys work hard, while I live it up, got it?"A few short dashes from alley-to-alley got them closer to the road to the HQ again, but Sako had yet to give them the all-clear to make the trek back up the road to the edge of town where JPs was holed up. He glanced at his watch and saw the hours of the day swiftly ticking away, wondering how much destruction was taking place the longer this damned Megrez and his buds kept on not having their faces kicked in. s**t, was his apartment even still standing? Were his collection of platinum records still safe? Was his perfectly-sized, satin-sheet covered bed still completely safe back in the city?! If anything happened to that bed, my God...Megrez was going to die, be brought back, and then killed a second time just to make sure he understood how badly he just ******** up!

So you guys work hard, while I live it up, got it?"Two more alleys and he watched a bud float by obliviously, their subtle movements allowing them to pass this far unmolested...they were merely a block away from the road yet and still hadn't heard anything from the HQ...wasn't that team on the job of clearing the path, yet? His lips curled into a frown as he wondered how long they were going to have to play this cat-and-mouse game before they could get back to safety and report to try and ready the attack on the real body of Megrez. Just a little longer...they wouldn't last all day out here, not even the way he was fighting now.

Sano Gallen Sano still had a lot of pent up frustration and another Megrez Bud launched an attack. He attacked it savagely as he did the one before it. Why was everything pissing him off so much? Sure he had a temper but he thought a world like this was what he wanted and yet everything still annoyed him. Sano Gallen Everything was lining up to be killed it seemed. When Sano was done murdering one thing or person, another came along. Whether it was human or demon or even bud, it was dying by his hand! Eiji "Gin" Mishima  Another demon bit the dust as Gin cut through the chaff. What was the point in dealing with all these demons, if they weren't at least getting closer to the Megrez Core at the center of it all? He'd heard from Sako, and although she avoided the question he had a pretty good idea that they didn't even know where the core was hiding for the time being. That meant that they were essentially surviving with simple preventive measures, while the enemy slowly whittled away their strength. It was no good to be on the defensive the whole time, but...defeating these demons was the best they could do for now. That, and kill any Buds as they came across them. Quote: Gin kills demons. Eiji "Gin" Mishima Gin listened as Yamato delivered a quick and efficient report on the current situation. He'd called in a number of strong individuals lending their talents to JPs, but the report didn't really contain any new information, merely putting the onus on them to continue slaying demons and Buds until they located the main core. The one who should deal the blow was as of yet undecided, mostly due to the mysterious nature of their true foe, and what talents it might hide. Still, Gin was confident that with a little more effort, they could overcome their current plight.
"And keep up the good work, all of you. I'd also like to offer my support to agent Mishima for the time being, for his considerable effort earlier driving off the Buds that drew close to our base. You should be well rewarded, but we have little time for such pleasantries right now. I hope you understand." "Don't worry about it. I only did what I had to, keeping everyone safe. We won't escape this disaster by falling apart now." The comment brought a sly smirk to Yamato's face, and the grin almost sent shivers down Gin's spine with the sheer coldness of the gesture. "Well said. We must continue to protect JPs agents and assets, no matter the cost. We should focus on the Buds for the time being, but even human trash should be swept aside if they end up interfering with our business further. That is all...you are dismissed." There it was again. That callous attitude that so distanced the Rioters from him...JPs would suffer, if Hotsuin didn't change his tune before long. The demons weren't trouble, merely a way to flex his muscle while he tried to recover...and even the weaker teams could deal with them no problem.
