((So you guys know, I haven't abandoned this or anything. I'm waiting for Rikku to respond as well so I can reply to both, since they have been fairly short responses lately courtesy in part of direct interaction. Makes me feel better, it being longer with replies to both posts. Also, I know its possible to see when people last signed on, so know that even if I haven't actually signed in, I have this page as one of the pages that pull up when I open my browser, so I still check this fairly often for new replies.

Hope all is well!))

Noci:

The room fell silent for several minutes after Karindas question, broken only by the ominous storm outside as it light up the darkened room. When it seemed as if she wouldn't get her answer she hopped off of the table and went to sit opposite Karinda, knees curled up tightly to her chest. "I told you I was a Hanucini right....yeah...told you right." Her eyes usual lime green hue had darkened slightly as the begining of tears distorted them, "When it happend I became....Bound, to a certain person...yeah...bound..."She made to continue but something seemed to catch in her throat.
"Can we... Talk about this some other time please Mrs K, I don't really feel up to it today".

((OH MY GOSH! HI, BLISS! Nah, it's not too late. I did, however, make the excuse that the two were down in the library browsing the books to explain their absence. Not much has happened since your disappearance, I don't think. Feel free to read what has happened since your last post, which is toward the end of page 55. But, if you don't want to... Noci, Karinda, and Saiirin are in the upstairs apartment, Rodger went downstairs to the library to make sure everything was locked up for the night, and Plushy is outside the library conversing with and trying to get Saiirin to come with him. And that's everyone! Your character profiles are still up on the first page, and I have added a section with important side characters if you need a refresher there.

As a shout-out to you two (now three!) still here, bless you all for staying with this for so long, even though there have been so many hiatuses. I'm working on some of the details for the adventure of the other dimension, and hope that the roleplay will continue to keep interest!

I'm occupied with another project right now, but will do my best to get a character post up tomorrow night or the following Monday, in which I will include something for Rodger that I have planned. Or, Bliss, if you get to a post before me, feel free to bump into him if you want to, and I'll add that in.

Again, thanks, all, and welcome back, Bliss! It's great to have you!))

Agrona paced in an office room behind a heavy, oaken desk decorated with carvings of deformed sea creatures. Moisture hung heavily in the cool air, a few droplets of water forming in clusters around Agrona as she paced, the droplets forming and moving with her frustration.

“Draklain!” she called irritably, her frustration creating a hiss in her voice.

A dark shadow crawled across the floor, creating a spear of darkness expanding from the bottom of the door to just in front of the desk. The shadow pooled into a blob, which rose to the height of a man before melting away, leaving a dark figure in its place. Looking somewhere in either his late teens or early twenties, his hair shone as inky black as the element he formed from, and he wore an eyepatch over his right eye. Lamplight flickered over his face, making shadows dance across his unnaturally pale skin.

My lady,” he said, his voice a whispering hiss as he knelt on one knee, the tails of his leather coat draping against the stone floor.

“Have you heard any word from our expected guest?” Agrona demanded, taking a step toward him, the sheer, light green fabric draping from the emerald body of her dress flaring around her with the action.

My sincerest apologies, my queen, but I—” Draklain’s words cut off as a gentle knock beat on the door, the Corrupt’s head twitching toward it. “It seems he has arrived.

Agrona snorted. “You’re dismissed.” She watched as shadows consumed his kneeling form, the blackness soaking through the stone floor and vanishing. She looked back to the door. “Enter!”

The door opened with an ominous creak, revealing a cloaked figure with its gloved hand on the doorknob and face hidden in the shadows

The figure entered and closed the door behind it, its smooth steps giving the appearance of gliding across the floor.

“You’re late,” Agrona growled, her voice low and threatening. “I don’t appreciate having to wait.”

“I’m here, aren’t I?” the figure said softly.

Agrona’s glower deepened. “If I didn’t need you--”

“But I trust you do. Otherwise, this was a waste of both your time and mine.”

Agrona stared at the figure, trying to see beyond the shadows crowding the figure’s hood.

“You said you’ve heard something about that portal of yours?” The figure crossed its arms, the fabric of the cloak billowing with the movement.

Agrona eyed the figure for a short moment longer before she went to the high-backed chair behind the desk and sat. “It’s been revealed that you are one of the few capable of entering.” A smile pulled at the corner of her lips.

“And you want me to find the…”

“The crystal. Yes, yes.” She leaned forward on the desk. “But Chaim has his own people going after it by now, I’m sure. I need you to find it before them. Are you willing?”

“Depends,” the figure shifted its weight, a smirk in its voice. “What’s in it for me?”

“A high place in my council.”

“Uh huh.” The figure moved a hand to its face in a moment of mock contemplation. “Nope, sorry. Not interested in a stuffy council job.”

“Then I’ll owe you a favor.” Agrona drummed her long fingernails once against the desk in irritation. Her cold, sea-green eyes glimmered, a darkness lurking in their depths.

“You’re asking me to throw myself under the buss and prey that this crystal of yours will be easy to find.” The figure stepped to the desk, placed its hands on the wooden top, and leaned toward Agrona. “Make it three favors and whatever I’ll need for this, and you’ve got yourself a deal.”

Agrona leaned back in the chair, eyeing the figure. “Then we have an accord. But know this:” she leaned forward, “should you betray my trust, I’ll see to it that you suffer for the rest of eternity.”

The figure laughed. “Have a little faith, Agrona! Unless you don’t trust Draklain’s judgment.”

Agrona snorted almost approvingly. “Very well. How soon can you leave?”

“Immediately.”

Tell her what you will, Plushy, Karinda thought to Plushy distractedly, her gaze and concentration on Noci. I’m currently occupied with another conversation.

Saiirin gave an irritated snort, then fluttered to the window as another flash of lightning lit the night. Shrinking to a convenient size allowing her to cling to the window ceil, the small dragon stared out into the rain, trying to make out Plushy amidst the downpour.

Aye, things tend to change, Saiirin began darkly, irritation in her voice at having to address him. ’Tis a different world from what we once knew. Tell your “king” I will not abandon Karinda in a world so foreign.

Karinda spared Saiirin a quick glance, a small, thankful smile quirking at her lips. She looked back to Noci curiously, taking in her grim expression as silence fell between them. When it seemed as if the girl would not answer, Karinda opened her mouth to ask if she was okay, when Noci moved to the floor across from her and finally spoke.

“Yes.” Karinda nodded. “You informed us as such, though the knowledge of your kind doesn’t reside with any here,” her words slowed slightly as Noci looked on the verge of tears.

Bound? She’s bound to someone? The slight spark of suspicion and concern that ran through her mind made Saiirin glance back at her.

“Yes… yes, of course it can wait.” Karinda scooted over the carpet so she sat more to Noci’s side, and placed a consoling hand on the girl’s shoulder. “My apologies. I was unaware such a topic would affect you thusly.”

Rodger checked and locked the alleyway door in the back office, the action more subconscious than anything else. After he quickly placed an extra spell on the door to seal it shut, he checked the status panel that blended in with the wall to be sure the temperature and humidity in the library was just right for all the books that called the place home.

Satisfied with the information displayed on the screen for each level and display case, he was about to dim the lights when he remembered that Loki and Jerod still roamed the building.

Placing a hand on the wall beside the touch panel, he looked up at the ceiling. “Find them for me, would you?” he asked of the library.

In response, the screen flashed parchment yellow, then displayed a 3D model of the library. The model spun around, then the layers of the library peeled away until it reached the level the two were on. It then rotated to show a bird’s-eye view of the many rows of shelves, reading nooks, and desks set up on the level. Two glowing red dots appeared, marking the shifters’ place.

“There’s no one else, right?”

The two dots flashed brighter in confirmation.

“Good. Let me know if they move before I get to them, would you?”

The library layout vanished, replaced instead with two fists with their thumbs sticking up.

Rodger grinned. “Thanks!” He swiped the screen, and the display changed to a pattern of paneling matching that around it, rendering it invisible to all but the trained eye.

He left the back office, nearly tripping on a couple piles of uncatalogued books on his way out. Closing the door firmly behind him, he strode through the maze of shelves toward the front door, taking a route that would potentially allow him to run into Loki and Jarod.

Chaim walked the deserted city streets. Though the storm raged around him with a ferocity that made even the few planted trees and many streetlights bow and flicker to its power, its fury lessened around him. The rain fell in a dome around his figure, and even the wind whipping at his unusually green hair less of a gale as even it slowed in respect for the man.

The normality of jeans and his emerald-green shirt looked out of place around the ethereal beauty of his features, the determination in his heterochromatic eyes locked on the street ahead of him. He navigated the flooded streets with ease, the excited whispers of the rain eager to tell him all that they had seen during their travels through the clouds as he made his way to the library.

Hope you guys like to read. Ha. For anyone who might be interested, I placed a picture reference for Draklain on the "Important NPCs" section.

Bliss, let me know if I need to make any changes with the mention of your characters being on the first floor. I put that in as an assumed filler. Hope you don't mind.

Tis a different world from what we once knew. Tell your “king” I will not abandon Karinda in a world so foreign. Plushy think back to Saiirin "Very well, mind you the king will not be happy about this, she may be harsh with you latter..." Noci:

Once again she goes to say something but again it's as if the words just wouldn't leave her. "So what are we gonna do next Mrs K?"

Segmon:

"I would ask if we could talk somewhere more comfortable" he looked back and forth between the two and shrugged "Okay straight to business, I have been sent on behalf of an...Acquaintance of mine, they require you and your friends assistance in an extremely important job" He had taken a file out of his jacket pocket, flipping though it slowly.

"You're right. I am afraid."

Loki sat in a chair at a desk near the center of the library. Jarod sat sideways on her lap, and she held her arms around him as she spoke. Even if she ever began to believe in lying to her son, she likely would never be able to. He was too observant of her for that, even without really trying.

"I'm afraid because..." Loki stopped herself and closed her eyes, then took her time exhaling before looking at her son again.

"Jarod... even though I don't yet know as much as I'd like to about everything that's going on here... I trust that they are good. I wouldn't have brought you here if I didn't believe in that." Her son all but relaxed in her arms as she gently began rocking back and forth.

"But I'm sure you've noticed that... there are others here... who can - who are stronger than I am." Another breath, slow again. Loki studied her son's face and carefully stroked his head.

"Jarod, there are many, many creatures in this world who are much stronger than I am, and... not all of them are good. And..." Loki became still.

"... and we might never have to meet them, but there's a chance that we will."

Jarod's body gained a noticeable bit of tension, but he remained attentive.

"I could always keep you safe before, and I'm going to do my best to learn as much as I can here, but I don't know if I'm always going to be able to protect you." Loki's felt a knot in her throat as she expressed this fear she had been holding inside until this moment. Beyond this, she was afraid of what effect her fears would have on her son.

Jarod relaxed after a few moments of apparent thoughtful concentration, and a smile of relief slowly made its way onto his face. He reached his hand up and wiped a tear away from his mother's cheek. "Mom... it's okay. I'm still growing up, so I can get stronger too, and I can learn to use my fire like my dad did. And I bet there's a lot of other stuff I can learn too."

Jarod slid tentatively off of his mother's lap, then turned around and gave her the biggest hug he could manage.

"Please don't cry, Mom." He released his hold and looked up at his mother again, only to discover that her tears had increased.

"Mom, don't be sad. One day, I'll be so strong, you won't even have to worry about watching me all the time anymore. I'll even protect you too. And then we can help take care of other people too."

"Oh, Jarod, these aren't sad tears," she finally answered as she leaned forward to embrace him again. She took yet another deep breath and tried to get a hold of herself. "These are glad tears. I'm so glad you're here with me. And I'm very glad you are who you are."

"Okay." Jarod grinned at his perceived success and gently pulled away again. "I'll be right back, I'm gonna look for tissues. Maybe they have some on the big desk." He rushed away and towards Vanessa's desk, where they had initally met her.

"Oh, Jarod." Loki placed her face in her hands and whispered to herself. "What am I doing?" Neither she or her son heard Rodger over the noise of the weather outside.

Where We Are (Vaiport, the Defender’s Town)

Weather: Though the storm continues, the weathermen predict that it should begin to settle sometime after midnight. While the power issue still remains the same, with only a couple other street blocks losing power, the homes closest to the water are warned against flooding, and suggested to evacuate as a precaution. Efforts have begun, led by a few supernaturals with powers over the wind and rain, to aid in their evacuation to higher ground. With the temperature currently at 65 degrees Fahrenheit, the cloud cover has been darkened further with the sun fully set.

Notice!

I have edited the informational posts on page one to make it look less cluttered and hopefully add some ease of locating information. Since it involves your characters, please let me know if you are all okay with it, and check for any errors that I missed.

Also, since they are apparently playing a larger role in this than I initially thought they would, I fleshed-out the description of the town (which now has a name! Yay! Thanks go to Rikku for the picture used for it) and its defenses, and have added similar information on the library. I would strongly suggest you guys check those out as well if you have the time. If any of you have questions or comments, or think something needs edited, please let me know via PM.

Thanks, all!

Saiirin snorted, overjoyed when she sensed Plushy departing. Wretched oaf. The small dragon pushed herself from the window and glided toward Karinda and Noci.

Be kind, Saiirin, Karinda thought to Saiirin as the small dragon landed in front of her and Noci, the she-dragon’s scales glittering slightly in the artificial lightning and glimmering anew with each lightning strike that lit the sky and filtered through the wide windows.

Karinda looked back to Noci as the girl spoke. She took a deep breath, her hand returning to her hoodie pocket and clenching the piece of paper tightly once more as she glanced to the storm.

Saiirin’s lizard-like eyes narrowed at Karinda. T’would be a fool’s errand, Karinda! she scolded, sensing Karinda’s thoughts. Only fate knows what awaits at that address!

Then color me a fool. Karinda glanced to Saiirin. I have to know, Saiirin. I beg of you to understand.

She returned her gaze to Noci as Saiirin regarded her carefully, the dragon’s eyes resting on the black rose vine that had spread over Karinda’s skin and entwined with her silver markings.

Karinda took a deep breath and forced a small smile as she pried her fingers from the paper. “Shall we find a way to pass the time until the storm has released its anger enough to allow slumber to befall?”

Aye, I suspect we both do, Saiirin answered Karinda’s thought, and fluttered to the couch as Karinda stood. Prepare to depart once the storm has wavered and the others succumbed to slumber.

Karinda cast a grateful glance to Saiirin. Thank you, my friend. Then, aloud, she addressed Noci, “Perhaps you could show me how to operate a few of these…” she bit the inside of her cheek a moment as she tried to remember the word she had heard applied, “appliances, yes?” She looked to Noci for confirmation. “The elevator,” she said the word slowly, as if testing it in her mouth, “was rather a rather… interesting one, to be sure.”

Chaim paused as he neared the library. A large, hulking form rounded from behind the building, impervious to the rain and lightning flashing around it.

Ah, good, he thought. Hopefully the others are inside. He glanced to the library, then turned his focus back to the form of the town’s resident dragon.

“Plushy!” he called out to the figure, his voice managing to rise above the clash of the storm, though whether or not Plushy heard him, he could not say. With a flourish of his hand, the rainwater turning the street into a rushing river gathered around him into a pillar that clung to his legs as it lifted him up. The water rushed like a serpentine creature as it slithered toward Plushy with greater speed than the man’s gait.

“Plushy,” he said again, his elemental pillar rising slightly more as it collected more of the downpour, placing him just below Plushy’s eye level as he tried to get Plushy’s attention “Where’re you off to on such a night?" he asked lightly. "I need to speak with you and our newcomers, if you have the time.”

User Image

Rodger’s pace slowed as the sound of Loki and Jarod’s voices, their words slightly dampened by the pages of the books surrounding him, reached his rather sensitive ears, the storm muffled slightly in the lower level. As he neared the end of the bookcases, he paused, not wanting to interrupt a conversation between mother and son. He leaned against the end of the bookcase, watching the two in an armchair, a few misplaced books on the desk beside them.

When Jarod hurried off to find a tissue, Rodger pushed from the bookcase and strode toward Loki. He stopped beside her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, hoping Jarod would manage to find the tissues in the mess of the main desk.

“You’re being a strong, caring mother,” he said softly, offering a small smile. “Forgive me. I had no intention of eavesdropping. But we will do everything we can to help keep you and Jarod safe and get you two ready for the challenges ahead.”

Vanessa raised an eyebrow at Segmon’s first statement. “Would you like a cup of tea, too?” she asked sarcastically as the man looked between her and Clayton, who retained his weapon-for-an-arm.

The two stiffened as Segmon continued speaking and reached into his jacket pocket, Vanessa and Clayton both ready to fend him off if he pulled another weapon out. Instead, he brandished a file and began flipping through it.

“You’re joking, right?” Clayton growled, part of his question drowned out by one of the louder claps of thunder. He shook his head.

“Who might this acquaintance of yours be, and what job?” Vanessa asked, stepping closer in an attempt at getting a better look at the contents of Segmon’s file. “And you've failed to tell us your name.” She stared at him intently as if her vision alone would tell if he served as an ally to Agrona.

Plushy&Oberon

“Plushy! Plushy, Where’re you off to on such a night? I need to speak with you and our newcomers, if you have the time.” Plushy see Chaim using magic to walk through the storm, he ride on top a pillar of water. Plushy thought it be a good idea to talk with Chaim, as the answer Saiirin gave him would make the king most unhappy. Plushy walked up to Chaim,

"The new comers are still in the library, Plushy has just been thinking with the dragon Saiirin, we have a problem, the dragon king has summoned her to have an update talk, but she won't come without her bond, and her bond is busy here, Plushy is off to report her answer to the king, as Plushy must, but Plushy fear she won't take Saiirin's absence well, what would you have Plushy do?"

Plushy said to Chaim, and asked, as he had finished with a question. The storm seamed softer inside Chaims magic bubble, made the talking easy.

Chaim regarded Plushy for a short moment. “I would have you do as you must and wish, Plushy,” he answered calmly. “I only met the two briefly, but, to my knowledge, Saiirin and Karinda have been informed of as much of what has happened as possible. My second-in-command once knew the girl, and spent a fair amount of time with them, though I don’t know the extent of his knowledge on the developments in the dragon society.”

He glanced to the library beneath the sheet of rain, the cloud’s tears briefly redirecting slightly to allow him a better view of the vast building until he looked back to Plushy.

“Thank you for telling me the others are inside.” He offered Plushy a small smile in thanks. “I’ll come find you when you return. Until latler, good dragon.” Chaim offered him a bow.

The pillar of water, the liquid cascading down around him only to reform again to maintain its height, moved him away from Plushy as it shrunk quickly, lowering Chaim swiftly and easily back to the ground, leaving the bottom of his pants where it had lapped no wetter for wear.

He strode to the stairs leading to the arched, double doorway of the library. No longer needing to hold the pretense of inanimate stone, the heads of the lions turned and looked at him, then bowed their heads respectfully as he neared. Chaim offered them a quick nod in return, then ascended the wide concrete stairs.

Well, it's not exactly a bubble per say, but I know what you mean, so that works just fine. smile The storm just slightly lessens directly around him, and the rain sort of redirects itself right before it would hit him. He doesn't feel like getting wet right now. XD

Plushy watch Chaim go to the library, he didn't need to be in the storm any more, he had to meet with the king and give her saiirins answer, and explain she has been talked to and is caught up already. Plushy ports home, poof.
