It was only then Lin remembered while those baths were better they were huge compared to her. The result of very tall elves, she was trying to think of how deep the "pool" was now that she was grown first.
"I'm sure it'll be fine," Lin replied after a moment, "I don't think it's deeper than I am tall, though I have to stand, unless I sit on the stairs. Besides people are only going to get splashed, I can't stop the ruffling after it gets wet. It's like a knee jerk reaction."
The first time she did so the entire wall of the bathing room became wet, she was mortified because she hadn't even thought about doing it.

Earendil's smile grew uneasy, but he nodded. "Just remember, if you do need anything, they're only a call away," he murmured.
It was another half hour to the castle proper, and when they arrived, it appeared that they were expected. Luthien was waiting in the main hall for them once the stablehands had come to collect their horses, and as they stepped inside she squealed and just about tackled Earendil in a hug.
"You're all back, and safe!" she exclaimed. "You were later than you said you would be, we were worried about you!"
Earendil coughed. In the hullabaloo over his birthday, he had forgotten to send the letter he had intended. "Sorry, Mother, things just kept coming up," he apologized.

Lin laughed as she side stepped the whole thing, even though she could really understand why Luthien was worried.
"Sorry, the delay was my fault," Lin spoke up.
She couldn't help but grin at Earendil because it was just a funny sight. Probably because Earendil was all grown up, and probably because it was something she had seen many times with her older siblings.

Luthien looked at Lin, and it seemed she was about to criticize her for taking the blame when she saw her wings. Her eyes grew wide, and one hand flew to her mouth. "Lin," she gasped. "You ... you're like your mother now ..."
Tinuviel and Aranel came in with Regan just then, and they laughed at the look on Luthien's face.

Lin had to admit shocking people was just as amusing, "I know, trust me completely unexpected. I'm pretty sure this has to be a first for a Second, though now I sort of know how Mom felt."
She was sure for her mother it had been equally unexpected, both times if she recalled the stories correctly.
"We spent the extra time while I was trying to adjust, it's hard to walk without falling over at first."

"I would imagine so," Luthien laughed softly. "Well, they are beautiful." She smiled at everyone else. "But come, you must all be tired ... wash, and rest, and tonight we will have a good meal. Kaito, Shiro and Ura are already back, they arrived just yesterday. Shiro did ask that you be sent straight to him when you arrived."
Kaito beamed. "Where is he?" he asked.
"In Sir Valdemar's library," came the answer.
While they talked, Earendil hefted his bag over his shoulder and smiled down at Lin. "Come on," he grinned at her, "let's go. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for a good long nap."

Lin blinked why did Shiro want to see them right away? Well besides the fact they were late, she wondered if he found something out.
"A nap sounds good, a bath sounds better," Lin murmured.
She never realized how being dirty was bothersome until she had wings, she wondered how Kaito did it. Having all that grime between his feathers like that.
Senka snorted she didn't like baths all that much and leaped from Lin's shoulder to Earendil's. Senka's issue was solved by Senka herself, while she said sorry she solved her possessiveness herself. Since she rather keep Earendil's fingers and she did like him. He was hers too.

Earendil instinctively reached up and scritched Senka behind the ears. "And what about you?" he smiled, much more friendly towards her now that they had more than made up. "How would you like a brushing before I take a bath? I'm sure you would be happy to get rid of your sand as well."
Truth be told, he liked spoiling her, as long as she didn't pounce on him or made rude accusations.

Senka closed her eyes and purred at the thought, for a dark coloured cat she had been looking a bit lighter since they left their last destination.
"Yesssss..... sand is icky...."
Lin rolled her eyes, the only thing she knew that was keeping Senka with her was the fact Senka was possessive and stubborn. Two qualities meant she was more willing to go along than her other pets. Though Lin thought she was going to have to figure out how to bring butterflies with her on the trip they did make good scouts for the most part.
Maybe she should see if there were any magical breeds in Gaia.

Earendil smiled and kept petting Senka. "Then brushed you shall be," he murmured. He smiled at Lin. "And then a nice nap."
Earendil walked Lin to her chambers (the room was permanently hers now, officially and unofficially), then took Senka to his own chambers, where he brushed her until her coat shone again, gave her a dish of water and the last remaining strips of dried fish that he had in his bag, and then took a long, hot bath. Once he was clean, he curled up in his bed for a long nap.
It wasn't until dinner that evening that everyone came together again. The queen and king, Luthien, Ruel, Tinuviel, Regan, Aranel, Shiro, Kaito and Ura were all present when Earendil led Lin into the Dining Hall, with Senka on one shoulder.
"Lin!" Shiro exclaimed, rising from his chair, his red eyes wide. "Kaito told me what happened, but ... wow! You look amazing!"

Lin smiled at that as she greeted Shiro and Ura for the first time since they parted ways at the vineyard.
"Thanks," Lin murmured, "It's good to know I don't seem out of place. I certainly felt like it at the beginning."
She grinned at the two of them.
"And what about you two? What did you find out while you were at the vineyard?"

Shiro chuckled. "You look like Obaa-san now," he grinned at her. He took his seat again as the servants brought in the meal. "As for my findings," he went on, "they were quite enlightening. The sand at the plantation ... is very different from the sand of the desert, and even the sand here. It's not even really sand, it's more ... soil, if that makes any sense. How and why, I can't explain, it can't have come from the river - and yet it is."
Luthien smiled at Lin. "Shiro even tested the soil of the courtyard," she explained, "and from the top of the mountain, to do comparisons."
"Sand," Shiro corrected his aunt. "The courtyard is sand, despite the plant life."

There was a chuckle at the exactness of Shiro's terms it reminded her of a particular person who didn't like the confusion between boats and ships.
"Interesting, that is unexpected, " Lin murmured.
She had always thought the soil was the result of the oasis, which it might have been but not in that way. Soil.... she wondered if it did have to do with the water source and extra plant life there.
"So did you come back long before us?" she asked knowing they were late by a few days.

"I only came back yesterday," Shiro smiled. "Aunt Nadya foresaw when you would return, and she made sure that we would be back in time, but not too early. Uncle Gion came with, and helped Ura with his sun problem ... but he wanted to get back to Aunt Nadya right away, so he didn't even end up staying the night."
"But he did make sure to stop in and visit for a while," the queen put in, smiling, "so he can be forgiven for that."

Lin giggled at that before turning to Ura, it sounded like the sun and Ura still didn't quite agree. Though he was dark coloured in every aspect except his skin and had little protection. That was something that they needed to talk about with Helen.
"And you're feeling better Ura?"
He looked well, though she wondered how Gion helped with Ura's sun problem.
