Oh, that not good, women with pent up aggression is not good for anyone.
You should have a long talk with him in a nice calm setting when he gets back. But knowing men it won't help much, they are sometimes just asses.

It bugs me that when I'm upset, like sometimes I get sad for no reason at all and tell him there's nothing wrong and not to worry about it, he gets this agitated look on his face, deep irritated sigh and flat tone like he's mad at me. SO, in this situation, I either stay there to watch him be pissed off at me for something I can't control, or I can leave and wait it out to which he gets mad cuz I left. SO then I get mad at him for being agitated at me.

And now he's just texted me saying he's going to try and sleep in a parking lot. So that makes me want to kick him.

lol, to tell you the truth, man and women all around the world have this problem. Men can't understand that women can have many different emotions surging in them in a single time, and sometimes its better to listen to them or cheer them up at that time, but they do the opposite. They think they're the reason we are sad or silent and make it about themselves.
Did your bf knew he had to stay there over night?

Argh. He didn't answer his phone... he'd better be sleeping. I'm worried. Honestly... a parking lot? He doesn't have a car!

Yes he knew. It's a film festival all the way across the country.

And it's not fair that I respect his rules about when he's upset (just leave him alone for a bit and he'll come back to me to either apologize or talk it over because he's calmed down) but he doesn't do what I've asked of him in that situation (to ask me what's wrong, try to cheer me up or let me know I can talk to him, and then walk away and wait for me to be ready to talk again). It's about the same as his. I'm gunna have a talk with him when he gets home, otherwise I'm going to be mad at him for a long time and it will just make him madder that I'm being a b***h.
