themightyjello Brendyn Rogel A computer itself is just a massive series of "true/false". With enough space and gears, you should be able to program your fortress. Yeah but it's not like you'd be able to get it to do anything. Maybe you could get it to spell something out in binary but it's not like it would accomplish anything measurable. ...though speaking of measurements, if (as that article lead me to believe) power is measured in units (as water is measured in depth) you could probably build a giant dwarven adding machine. Set certain values to trigger certain things. Like opening doors to release water onto a pressure pad which activates other things, which ultimately resets itself. You could have a room full of random traps that trigger periodically in a pattern. Your fort entrance could have random spikes shoot out of the floor. themightyjello Man. I just read up on water pressure. Now I'm suddenly tempted to build a BOAT fortress. Water cannons. themightyjello Or build a fortress on stilts and put your trade depot underneath. Then bust out the 'deconstruct building' orders. Pillar + lever = collapse whatever it's holding up. Good emergency switch to drop a bunch of rocks and dirt onto the entrance to kill invaders and block them out.

Okay, my new fortress is on a mountain with an apparent hole to the center of the earth in it. I've got a camp of trogs just to my southwest upon arriving, with ratmen, batmen, and more trogs living in the chasm. I anticipate the fact that 3/7 of my dwarves embarked with combat proficiency was a good call. I might send my Axedwarf and Marksdwarf over there to say hello, seeing as they're blocking off that coal deposit that sits directly across the river from the SOLID WALL OF PLATINUM that I'm digging out to become a subterranean farm.
This will be the richest booze we've ever tasted.
