I'm either amazing or stupid.
Three hours ago picked my paper's topic, started researching. Found three sources. Wrote 5&1/2 pages of solid essay. Submitted. I'm fairly sure it's a C quality paper, and would have been an easy A or high B if I'd started more than three hours ago or knew what I was going to write about.
Also, I need a link to the Dorf Fort with graphics. Because I actually understand what's going on mostly with the more graphicy one. And because I'm now done all my papers and ready to watch them die horrible ways.

Quote: You have been banned from Heaven or Hell by Ecks X. Ecks X also provided this reason for this action: Next year depends on YOU. ...no, seriously. i'm going to bother you eventually about this. i probably shouldn't even ban you. but it's my birthday gift to myself.

Chaplain Fenix Not with the regular DF. There's graphic mods. I use them because it's a square grid and everything is even. So my eyes don't bleed from looking at it for too long. What's the graphic mod name?

Mayday or something similar.
s**t went out of control. Caged some invading goblins, released them into a magma surrounded pit with three war dogs, unarmed. No survivors.
A fisherdwarf was slaughtered by one of the crazy sea monsters. Everybody and their cousin ran out to recover his body and belongings. This ended in a horrible train of massacres of dwarves trying to fish the guy's stuff out of the river, only for themselves to get butchered. Others would show up to try and save them.
I finally noticed and forbid anyone from touching anything near the river banks. Everybody went home, freaked the ******** out.
People were throwing tantrums and smashing furniture or starting fights and nobody was stopping them. Despite five or six people throwing shitfits, the jail was empty. I found Cog in the dining hall 'babbling inanely' and I couldn't get him to do anything. He was demoted.
I promoted the six of the marksdwarf squad to Captain and Guard, so the Captain would have five other guys to subdue the faggotry. Two people jailed and others are calming down.
Then the Captain of the guard ******** loses it. Two of the guard are crippled and are recovering in the barracks. The other three also go nuts and are automatically demoted. They run around being totally ******** nuts with full military training and iron crossbows.
The former guard captain is running around attempting to do things, but immediately cancels the action for the reason 'too insane.' Despite being too insane to do anything, he's not hurting anybody.
I gave Josh a steel battleaxe and an entourage of six attack dogs, promoted him Guard Captain, and put him on duty in the meeting hall where everybody was breaking s**t.
Everybody is fine now. Mostly.
Cog starved to death. In disgrace.

Fortress 2 has taught me much about how to dorf. This time I managed to get everyone inside with beds and have a farm going well before summer hit. The downside... everything after that went slow. It was almost winter by the time I had a proper mess hall set up, and prior to that I didn't even have a kitchen. I didn't get bedrooms made until the middle of the second year, despite all my mining, because my masons were so slow in putting down the floors.
I built most types of workshop early on... or at least slated them to be built. I didn't get anyone who could run my forge until the 2nd wave of immigrants, and didn't figure out that I needed a wood burning furnace to make charcoal for my smelting furnace to make metal for my smithing workshop until 2 years out. ...not that it mattered, since I hadn't dug up any metal yet and was just building everything out of wood.
2 years out and I had waaaay too many immigrants to be micro-managing. I blame the fact that we'd never been attacked. To remedy this, I decided to start a war. Prior to the war, I needed to build a barracks, recruit an army, and train them. Just building the barracks took a full season... lazy dorfs. For some reason, as soon as my legendary miner got promoted to sheriff he just stopped doing work.
I suppose it's just as well though. I didn't have any weapons to arm my troops with, so they'd have ended up being wrestlers or marksdwarves seeing as all I had to arm them with were bone crossbows.
I'm finding that it's quite hard to keep track of what's going on if you don't pause frequently... and even then, there's a lot of distance to cover and you can't check up on every dorf all the time. When my elite hunter suddenly drowned I was left wondering what the hell had happened. I couldn't find the body, nor had there been any warning. At least with his replacement I got a warning before the wolf devoured him.
