FFT for me.
No regrets.
I watched my cousins play games back before I even owned a PSX, and Tactics was the first game I tried, though it's technically very different from the rest of the FF series. I think you can call it an RPG, but strategy game too.
It frustrated the hell out of me, seeing as it was my first RPG and I hadn't read manuals or figured out how anything in it worked, so I started getting wooped on as early as that ambush with the monks and knights. A few years later after I'd owned a PSX and already beaten VII I went back and managed to find Tactics in a store, and played it. Still didn't know how it worked but I was capable of figuring it out this time 'round.
Still my favorite FF game.

I seriously don't want to picture that scenario.

2 minutes in Paint. Honestly, I didn't really like Golden Sun. FFT was solid. It's easily the best in the tactics series, though A2 is pretty good if you ignore the terrible main character.

Tactics is hands-down one of the finest RPG works I've ever experienced... but I never really considered it part of the Final Fantasy series. Games like Tactics, Mystic Quest, XI, Crystal Chronicles, and the Adventure gameboy games though they had FF in the name were departures from the format and could really be considered side-projects rather than parts of the 'series' set.
Still. Sitting atop the RPG pyramid are still Xenogears and Chrono Trigger.

VII is what got me started too. My friends basically sat me down and said you must play this.
And I never really got the whole Sephiroth is awesome thing. Never really liked him, he kinda pissed me off in fact. Was more a Vincent and Barret fan.

I think what attracts me about FF7 is the dialogue and the setting, even though I don't know what the ******** is that lifestream stuff, and the whole Genova thing.
It's kinda like BlazBlue. I don't give a s**t about Guilty Gear, but BlazBlue's graphics are pretty attractive, makes me want to stare at it.

I haven't played Xenogears, sadly.
My only complaint with CT is that it's too short. The DS remake screwed with the dialogue too much. The only real addition to the game content was a final dungeon and weapons to make your endgame party even more unbeatable.

Legend of Mana, while awesome, was not really a pinnacle of RPG achievement.
Secret of Mana is the same way. More action-RPG, less complex crafting systems and single-serving sidequests.

Ammiel Moonblade I haven't played Xenogears, sadly. If you play through it as quickly as humanly possible it'll still run you 74 hours due to lengthy story cutscenes.

I remember playing a Xenogears demo on PSX. I was ******** hooked. I already knew that I disliked RPGs, but s**t was awesome.

Legend of Mana was the last good mana game (besides Heroes of Mana, but even that was only passable). Seiken Densetsu 3 was probably my favorite, though I was a f** and played Hawk all day.
Fox, how is Blazblu, anyways? I wasn't a big fan of Guilty Gear, but I heard a lot of good things about Blazblu. I've been meaning to try it out.
