I don't even know how to pick a material. I just rezoned things and dug more for now.
Finally got around to disassembling my wagon so my carpenter can start on beds. Need to dig out some bedrooms now while he's doing that. And find some ******** trees.

When you select to build a wall section, there's a list of available materials like whatever stone you get from mining or logs from cutting down trees. Just scroll through the list with the + - buttons.

Yeah, I saw that now.
Also, I have no wood. Because nobody's going out to chop down any of the trees I zoned for it. I also struck gemstones and platinum while digging out my bedrooms. I'm currently dumping that s**t on the lawn outside to get it out of my way.
Need wood. Also have no seeds to plant in my farm. Also apparently only have one person capable of working and 6 standing around doing jack s**t.

Unless you drastically changed the starting items, you should have mushroom spores to plant, and two axes to chop down trees. Is your woodsman busy with other s**t?

There. I needed to set someone's labors to do wood cutting. Nobody wanted to do it.
Still my farmer fails to plant seeds.

Farm plot is outside.
I'm already on autumn and don't have a working farm. My hunter is killing goats but the butcher isn't doing anything with them. I feel I have a severe lack of productivity.
I believe beating my workers to death will solve this problem. Or perhaps they'll just die of starvation come winter.

Well... the fortress looks okay. But I fear that I likely will be having a serious food shortage soon. Ah well. At least my floors are paved in gold platinum. Or would have been if I'd ever built a smelting forge.

The mushroom spores you come with already have to be planted inside. On not rocky terrain.

Designated to gather plants and you can find food or seeds, if you set someone to use the herbalist skill.

I'm just gonna restart this fortress anyways.
Waiting to see if they starve. Apparently someone got injured and needs water and I have no buckets. I'd build a bucket, but nobody seems to want to do it.

I promoted a serf to Sheriff and named him Cog. He's married to some conscript which I named Kat.
Dessie went nuts and holed up in a workshop and he's building something.
I hope it's a sword.
Also: the conscripts are spar wrestling in the barracks. Cog is in there too since the sheriff is supposed to be able to beat people's a** when they go nuts.
So he's wrestling with Kat.
And there's clothes strewn all over the barracks.
...
This game just got PG13.

A few updates:
My hunters found and killed Sasquatch. We're making sammiches.
Goblins invaded.
My small standing army of legendary wrestlers was wiped out.
Kat was shot to death.
Josh was shot to death.
Some unnamed wrestling champion was beheaded.
After wrestling the first party of goblins to death, a second one showed up.
Drafted all forty dorfs in the fortress and crushed the remaining goblins to death.
Everybody is freaked the ******** out.
Luckily Cog didn't go nuts, because as sheriff, he's the only one permitted to beat crazy people half to death.
