I don't know but I do know that they're from NY.
in the bible it explains why the serpent lost it's legs and became a snake :p
We get snakes all the time cuz the woods are right behind our house. Mom would call them "Seme snakes" As to why we kill them "That's what he gets for being a snake" as mom would quote papa Long. Dad would be working in the backyard so he comes across them and kills them all the time. Once he found an 8 foot water moccasin. He even measured it himself. Then he would take them and hang them on one of the trees in the farthest part of the yard near the garden for the superstition of it being helpful to bring in rain.
Once a snake got in the house. It was getting cozy on the steps one summer day, mom (who is scared to death of them thanks to an Uncle that would keep gardner snakes in his shoe and throw 'em at her and sister as a joke.) tripped over it and scared the critter right into the house. We didn't know this so about 5 minutes later I hear "There's a Snake in my shoe!" I ran down the hall and hid in my sister's room. I later came out to check out what happened. My oldest sister was sitting on a trashcan with the snake trapped inside, mom had already ran down the street and brought in a few neighbors. Finally my dad gets home, just as calm as can be says in a cheerful voice "Oh let me go to the garage and get my lasso".
XD God I miss them. Even though mom would get mad, she'll sometimes end up mixing her words to where we all start laughing. "I cook your clothes I wash your food."
