Rhiko watched as the bird fluttered and squaked agrily as its perch disapeared. It flew around and landed in a nearbytree, this time deciding to watch respecively from a distance. Rhiko tried once more, this time, remembering not to make it hallow! He brought up all the water, and formed it and shaped it into his figure. Then, just as the book described it took on his appearance all together. He smiled, and knew inside he had truely learned the jutsu. He quickly released the jutsu, and watched it fall apart into water again.

He walked off the water, and made his way to his stuff. The horned owl flew over and joined him, and waited to see if he'd recieve another treat. Rhiko shook his head, "Sorry bud.... maybe next time... but this time... you've eaten it all."

The bird looked disapointed, and gave a loud, "Whooo!" then took off, and flew away.

Rhiko watched, and smiled, "Alright... see you again soon." Rhiko paused, and thought outloud, "Wait... did I just understand that bird?" He shruged, and decided he was just tired, and quickly left the grove the way he came, and made sure to leave nother behind to tell later visitors he was even there.

With a grin that probably scared little forest animals out of the area (all the better since it gave him peace and quiet), Sensei stepped into a small clearing in the Grove. Near-Fatal Training Endeavour, Begin!

He decided to start first with a little warm-up to get his muscles going. A little strength training to start the day. Humming a featureless tune, Sensei reached into his bag and took out a scroll. It was actually quite sad how happy training made him when compared to other things. Biting his thumb and making a few hand seals, two dumbbells were summoned. The reason for requiring a scroll to store them soon became apparent once you saw the number engraved on the side: 40kg. They were Sensei's prized pair of dumbbells and actually the only ones too. The others had been donated to some other needy guy because they had been too light. Sensei had heard of some guy in a foreign land who had raised a pair of 40kg dumbbells 691 times in one hour. While Sensei couldn't do that admittedly, he did intend to do 50 pairs in 10 minutes. And then he would have to stretch afterwards to avoid bulking up muscle.

Once he lifted up the dumbbells though, Sensei was forced to drop it immediately when his muscles gave a cry of protest. With a frown, Sensei stretched his biceps and triceps of his right arm a little before repeating that action with the muscles of his left arm. It eventually culminated into him interlocking his fingers together and bringing them behind him in the air as far as they could. Now that more blood than before was running through his veins and thusly more oxygen supplied more energy to his muscles, Sensei tried to lift the weights again and succeeded. But of course this did not even qualify as a minor triumph.

Arms shaking a little at the effort the action required, he raised his right arm up and immediately thought 'But my left arm is the weaker one'. He continued nevertheless since he couldn't exactly drop his arm down without exerting even more effort and it would be a waste to throw that raise away just because he had wanted to start on the other limb. Letting loose a hiss, he slowly lowered his right arm down, bringing his left arm up in the process. Around 20 seconds had passed. This wasn't good. He had needed to do each pair in 12 seconds in order to fulfill his target.

After that thought flashed across his mind Sensei immediately found his lifting easier. It was probably coincidence, now that his body was used to the task that he had set it, and Sensei paid the supposed positive power of thought and self-encouragement no heed. He tried to regulate his breathing as he worked methodically through the raises. He didn't want to sound like a wheezy old man who had smoked too much tobacco for his own good when doing this warm-up, after all. He didn't go too fast, but he didn't go too slow, and in one minute he had done exactly 5 pairs of raises. Back on track. Now, he only had to keep this pace.

Around the 1 minute 30 seconds mark, Sensei suddenly felt fatigue hit him in full force. A wry smile appeared on his face as he berated himself for training too over-enthusiastically. But who could blame him? He hadn't had any of these near-death trainings since he'd been saddled with the job of teacher. Which was fine, not that long ago. He'd only been without his trainings for a couple of months, and yet he was embracing it again like it was long-lost family. Which, to Andou's warped ideals, it probably was. Strangely enough, Andou found that thinking of various things during training actually helped him for some reason. He supposed that maybe it was because he wasn't focusing on his pain. Sensei doggedly worked on raising his arms alternately whilst thinking of various things. He had to make sure not to think too far, though, or he would probably lose concentration altogether. Ah. Concentration. That would probably be a good thing to do later.

Sensei reached the 2 minute mark after a little difficulty. He had sneaked in an extra raise (now he was at 11) since he knew that his constitution wasn't the best in the world and that he would be slowing down later, so why not do more while you can? He had closed his eyes to focus more on his muscles and although he knew that that made him more vulnerable to an attack, who would attack the Grove in the heart of Kirigakure anyway? At the very least if an invasion occurred, he would be able to hear it coming long before it reached the grove and react accordingly. Right now, there were only two things in Sensei's mind: one, the steady and never-ending, never-wavering movement of his two arms, and two, Cassie Walker. You know, sort of like the beer.

Wait. What? Cassie? What the hell was she doing in his mind? She had no right to be there. This was where the line between Sensei and Andou would blur and his messed up psych would be revealed in its fullest. Unknowingly gritting his teeth, Sensei put down his left dumbbell without realising. It was only when his right hand hit the ground did his eyes shoot open and he realise what he had done. Checking his watch, he figured that around 3 to 4 minutes had passed. Let's just say in between. And he had done a total of... 16. At least the girl - no, the woman now, Sensei had to admit - wasn't doing bad things to his training. Although, to be safe, he should think about other things. Like maybe his students. Or maybe his training, considering that he was supposed to be giving his all. Yeah, that would be better.

So. His dumbbells were back in the air, supported only by his arms. He was now at the 3:30 mark. 6 minutes 30 and 34 raises to go. For the first time the numbers hit him. He actually needed to speed up a little in order to reach his aim and Sensei knew that he couldn't do it. Scratch that, maybe she did affect his training after all. He probably needed to talk to her after this. Oh there he was, thinking about her again. Only when issues between them were ironed out would he receive his peace of mind, he realised. Anyway... back to the topic on hand... with a sudden surge of anger, Sensei punched his fist into the air as quickly as he could. With a 40kg mass obstructing its movement it was admittedly not very fast. With that action, some of Sensei's passion was quelled, and he returned to training calmly.

It was now reaching the halfway mark of 5 minutes. Sensei had closed his eyes again and had cleared his mind of most unnecessary things, like Cassie. Thank God. He was moving his tired muscles at the same, slow rate and the movements were almost automatic now in their regularity and monotony. He had reached the grand number of 33 and things were going according to plan. Only 27 more to go, Sensei told himself. Only 26 more to go. He would save the reflecting on life for later, when he stretched and meditated. Now, he was engaged in manly macho training and needed to focus on the now, on the sweat and the pain and the tears. Not that there were any tears, I mean... he would never cry! Never!

It was all going very fine and dandy for Sensei so far, and that was what irked him. He was supposed to be improving, and not constantly showing only the same amount of aptitude each time. Of course, he may have been a little harsh on himself since this was strictly only a warm-up and there was much time for his body to work miracles later, but we all know how unreasonable Sensei can be at times. Sensei did not feel tired in the slightest, but knew that by the end of the training he would. Already he was feeling the smallest tinge of fatigue inch up from within himself to join its brothers gathering in his arm muscles. Like some sort of party. Whose birthday was it again?

Sensei exhaled audibly as suddenly, his left arm muscle hit a couple of snags on the way up. Namely his tiredness as well as a small nagging pain somewhere in the muscles. The fatigue demons seemed to be having a real blast there. Too bad he would have to spoil it... ignoring more screams of protest from his body, Sensei forced up...

...and gently went back down again. Okay. Maybe due to his rush of thoughts just now, he had paced himself wrong. Who said that physical training didn't require brains? Relinquishing the hold over his dumbbells for a moment, Sensei flexed his muscles and winced a little at the dull ache. It was time for some stretching. According to Sensei's watch, he had ten seconds. Better make the most of it, he thought as he clasped his fingers together and pushed his hands forward to stretch his muscles, holding for 8 seconds.

The remaining two seconds was spent getting the dumbbells back in the air. It was getting harder and harder by the second, but Sensei was still determined to get 50 raises in ten minutes.

By the grace of God, Sensei somehow managed to make the next raise without getting overly distracted by the peppy abomination within his own mind. He made a vow to convert to Buddhism after this was all done if this continued. It was the least he could do.

The seconds were rapidly ticking down to the end of his fifth minute - or the beginning of his sixth, depending on how you looked at things. It was probably one of those glass half-empty/half-full tests that psychologists told you said a lot about your mind. Sensei didn't buy it, but Batou did, so he humoured him. Thinking about his best friend had a calming effect on Sensei as he struggled to get his right hand up for his 37th raise. His constitution was shorting out right about now just as predicted. Sensei had managed to fight its complete shutdown and delay it for a few minutes before a serious rest was needed, and he could do it again. But he also knew that one had to go through a hurdle of huge pain before their body got the message. Well... there was the phrase 'no pain, no gain' after all.

And sure enough, the weightlifting equivalent of a stitch in your stomach arrived soon after. His teacher from years back - Sensei honestly didn't remember which one, and what the hell they were all dead anyway - had told him that the best way to fight a stitch was to run through it. That was the only useful thing that the teacher had ever said and so it stuck out in Sensei's mind and it was his philosophy when situations like this happened. Letting out another mixture between a breath and a gasp, Sensei gritted his teeth and kept going. 38th raise, come on! His weaker side could do it!

Or not. A sudden searing pain ripped through his left arm and Sensei was reminded why this side of his was a liability in battle. He had gotten cramps in his left arm. Faced with this situation, Sensei only had one option really if he wanted to succeed on his aim - do the rest of his pairs with his right arm which would be infinitely hard but not impossible but pretty close. Of course that was not an option since if that happened he would have to get used to the power imbalance in his body. That was dangerous to have in a katana specialist.

Muttering an oath (funny how Sensei was most expressive when he was training and not when he was fighting, socialising, or anything else that you'd normally expect), he focused chakra to his right hand and ran it over his left arm. Apart from the tingly feeling, he also felt the pain begin to fade as if his chakra was some sort of cross between a tranquiliser and a painkiller. This would numb the pain for now, although he'd have to stretch it out good and proper when he was done.

Deciding to skip the left raise, Sensei repeated a raise with his right arm. Now the order of arms with which he did the raises was switched, but it's not like that mattered much..
