Summerknight If you are ever in need of a lawyer, you just give me a holler, you hear? wink (Though there might be a problem with me doing Australian law and not knowing USA law and all) emo Dude, I'm not in the USA, I'm in the other other Australia: Canada. Queen's on our money too, yo.

stressed My terrible bad on the Canada thing. I know you guys hate being mistaken for Americans. How do I tell the difference between your accent and a USA accent? Someone told me once, but I've forgotten.
Lucky you're from "the other Australia" and not our "7th state", which has an overwhelming (and slightly unhealthy) love of sheep. *coughs* New Zealand *coughs*. 4laugh
Since you're in "the other Australia" maybe I can give you legal advice, however it will be upside-down and riddled with pictures of kangaroos, emus and koalas. whee
P.S. Where did this 'other Australia' business come from? Did I miss Canada getting a short, bushy eyebrowed Prime Minister who likes to take long walks in bad tracksuits?

I love you guys, I think I just died lauging at all that. rofl
I think there are a lot of accents in the States when compared to Canadians (except of course for Newfoundlanders or 'noofies'), so I don't know how to tell the difference. Apparently we say 'eh' a lot, but I haven't noticed it, eh?

Yeah, I asked a Canadian exchange student about the accent thing today and she said 'Eh?' too. Since (funnily enough), I've never heard her say 'Eh?', except for when she says that that is the difference, I guess I'll have to give up and start calling you the 51st State of America. (50th if Hawaii isn't included on the 'official' list. wink )
*ducks for cover*
Actually Elie, you should probably be relieved that the top hombres don't think Hawaii is part of the good ol' US of A, considering some of them like to 'accidentally' shoot other people in the face.... Um, Oops? rolleyes
But I don't think a short, bushy-eyebrowed, bad-tracksuit-wearing, long-walking Prime Minister is the way to go as, for some inexplicable reason, he likes to watch cricket...
Anyone else think that is one of the most boring games on the planet?

Considering that I've never sat through a game of cricket, can't say I can give you an answer to that one, Summer. Basketball on the other hand now... ninja

i've never seen a full game of cricket either summer...
amalie: hmm now that you mention it, i have a friend from Canada and i've never heard her say eh before. However her parents are from China and they speak mostly Chinese at their house which might explain it xd heart

Well, I wouldn't say we're one of the States... we do have our differences. I think the main way you can tell we don't sound like we're from the USA is that we use some different terminology. Here's a game: without googling them, tell me the definitions of these terms:
Chesterfield
Toque
Serviette
Postal Code
Sugar Shack (or Sucrerie in French)
Tourtiere
Good luck!
As for cricket, I think it's interesting, if boring to watch. Unlike baseball which is boring to play/watch/discuss.
@Elie: I don't really know where the myth started, but I don't find we say 'eh' on a daily basis. Funny story though: a friend of mine at work dealt with the American side of our call centre and took calls all over the U.S. Since a lot of Yanks tend to object to people from other countries 'stealing' their jobs, we weren't to let them know where we were located other than saying we were North of Syracuse, NY. One time she let an 'eh' slip out and the customer on her phone said: "Hey, I know where you are."
Says my friend: "Oh? You do?" *nervous*
Says he: "Yeah, you're in Minnesota, aren't you? They say 'eh' all the time there!"
My friend: "You got me, sir."

That's a hilarious story, AMA!
I know what serviette and post code are (as we use them in Australia), and I'm guessing Sugar Shack is a yummy place to be, but the others I have no idea on. Unless Tourtiere is a cake shop?
