I play oboe but flute is actually my main instrument. Currently I am trying to try as many different instruments as possible. SO far I have oboe (obviously), flute (also obvious), clarinet (sort of), and piano (also kinda obvious. kinda). I've got lots to go......

Gawdddd... my bocal is weird! The nib thingie sticks out further than the average nib thingie. I named my bassooon Magnus, and I even play it for pep band, which I'm sure is totally weird. xp

I had this dentist appointment, and I got both cheeks numbed. My dad was like "LEAH! GO GET YOUR OBOE! I'd LOVE to hear you play it like this!!" because I couldn't even talk right ._.
He's so mean. xP

Yargh! I just got a part that requires me to play the english horn! I already started practicing it, to get used to the slide half hole type thing, and I gotta say I love it's sound. I played Sonota 2 (for Oboe) by G.F. Handel on the english horn and it sounds pretty sweet.

I've been trying to get my concert band teacher to let me take a bassoon home but I haven't been able to yet which really makes me mad because I have been itching to play one for a long time.. Any suggestions on something I should do before I can actually take a bassoon home?

I play the Bassoon in my School's Wind Ensemble. We just played a huge concert at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center for the Oklahoma Music Educator's Assosciation in January. I'm the lead bassoonist for the band, and I play flute and piano in my spare time. I'm also a good oboist, along with currently learning the Alto Saxophone. smile

I play the bassoon.
I can't play in marching band yet...

My sister plays trombone and i might use that as my other instrument for marching band... or jazz band.

But she says my lips are too big..

So i want to have sax as my marching instrument but im worried cause the bassoon and sax both have a lot of keys... so i would have to memorize fingerings for both of them...

So I am thinking I will probably play percussion for Marching Band~

Both of our bassoon players are in percussion for marching season- one's in drumline, the other's in the pit. Saxophone's pretty easy to play, the fingerings are simple...plus, it's awesome. B]

I just recently got a solo for the English Horn. I was so excited to try it out, especially because our school owns a wooden one whee My director told me to treat like a newborn child, so I started calling it my baby (we really bonded 3nodding ). I did have to give the instrument back though because another oboist at my school was to be given the English Horn experience. I almost cried (sort of) when I turned it in...I miss it now...

I played clairnet for 10 years then switched to oboe in the middle of the school year my Jr. year of HS. Right before MSBOA festival. Then for some reason my band director decided to pick songs w/ at least 2 oboe solos in each. >_< Oops. That, along with the 5 other students that switched to brand new instruments at that time, earned our band a 3 at districts. crying We got a 1 this year tho, and a 2 at states. xd

Anyway, long story short, I have played oboe just over a year. ^_^ I want to learn and perfect the bassoon and english horn in college, too.

Oh, and I play clarinet for marching band. (Duh. 3nodding )

I know the feeling. I had a wooden oboe with a french fingering system as my first oboe. Sadly I had to turn it in for good when I graduated, so I now have no oboe. It really hit me when I heard my double reed buddies playin my fav song a graduation, and the other oboe played the little solo part...

Oh wow, that would be hard to give up. I'm trying to convince my parents to get me my own Oboe. The odds are in my favor since they are both musical people and would love for me to play Oboe in college (which could earn me some scholarships depending where I go). My teacher reccomended a used Loree. That would pretty much make me happy for life. 3nodding
