I'm the oldest female french horn player in my school, and perhaps even in the entire school division.

The. French horn. Rules. All. *insert evil music here*

The only other grade 9 french horn player is a guy, and he still asks me for some help about some things like the positioning (he's been playing the FH since grade 7 (I've played it since grade 6)). And then the other FH players in the school are in grade 11/12.

I like mellophone alot more though
the french-horn
((especially mine since I get
the crappy once since I'm a
freshmen)) is hard to hit notes.

I haven't seen a mellophone in my city.

My school has 100% new french horns -- the way the pinky hook and the trigger are set up made my left hand overstretch and cause blisters. So my band teacher had to look all over the division to get one of the older ones (I actually find them easier to play, plus the pinky hook and trigger are close enough together for my small hands). It took them two months to find one in decent condition. Now I'm happy again. ^_^

I agree with the rant and add a touch of my own: It can take a flying leap off of a short pier after a long walk.

Haha basically. So I was sitting practicing earlier for my scale testing this week and I realize that I'm basically screwed. On a simple C scale, I insist on hitting the wrong partial for the b. I must have done that scale 20 times before I got it right. >.<

...I wish our school had functional newish french horns. The Holtons are all dead, so we've got old Conns..
Bummer about the handspan. Mine works great for me =D

@ MutedMelodies: For some ultra odd reason, I can't seem to play a C and then a Bb in this one song we're playing.
It might be because of the pitches the trumpets are playing (their pitch gaps are bigger I think) , but it's probably me xD

Argh my section leader got an new horn this week. Well new for her at least but it's a single and I envy her so much. I'd much rather play on a single horn than a double any day. I still don't understand why people swear that a double horn is so much better.

My horn is technically a single horn. I'm borrowing a double while it's getting fixed. The first rotor is..I don't even know. It's not where it's supposed to be. But I liked the single a lot better than the double I'm using now. I personally think it was easier to play on.

how can it be technically a single horn. It's either one or the other.

I love my double horn D=
I learned all the Bb fingerings, and the Fs are just like trumpet...

I'd settle for a single, but most are in F and I know Bb better O_o

And I think she's trying to say that she usually has a single, but she's using a double right now?
