A humble rookie goaltender called up from AHL by Canadiens in spring of 1971 n'not expected to make much of an impact. But Ken Dryden would soon win a Stanley Cup (n'several others after that), eventually becomin'a legend in Montreal.

Montreal recaptured Cup in 1976, with Dryden sportin' otherworldly postseason numbers (12-1, 1.92). Followin' season, he was even better: 4 shutouts n' a miserly 1.56 GAA in postseason play as Habs successfully defended their championship en route to a run of 4 straight.

After 1978-79 season, Dryden retired for good 6 Cups, 5 Vezinas, 258 wins, 46 shutouts, a 2.24 GAA (80-32, 2.40 in postseason) n' 23 assists for good measure. A 1983 Hall of Fame inductee, he has been just as productive off ice, workin' as a broadcaster, professor, author, GM of arch-rival Maple Leafs, n' member of Canada's Parliament.
