HonoRaven Samantha stopped and turned to look at John, wondering to herself why the big man was dawdling... perhaps his headache was distracting him. Slowly she turned and walked back to him, looking up at his blue eyes as her white hair drifted lazily around her on the wind of the passing cars. " Do you need me to hail a cab? I forgot that you are feeling unwell, please accept my apologies." John clutched his head and tried to will the migraine away, but it wasn't working. He was beginning to get aggravated, and as Sam came up to him, he glared at her through his sunglasses. "I don't need a cab to walk a couple of blocks, damn you! And stop being so formal, would it hurt to act your age once in a while?!" He snapped at her, wincing them as he said the words and wishing he could take them back immediantly. "Sam, I'm sorry, I..."

Sam wore a sardonic smile as John apologized to her. "I am acting my age... it is not my fault that manners have changed so seriously in the last 100 years!" blaugh
She ignored the first part of his reply and waved at an oncoming taxi, the sleek yellow car slowing to a stop just beside the curb, the rest of the traffic flowing around it as a river flows around a boulder, the sidewalk side door opening to invite the pair into the dim, quiet confines of the car. "We will take the cab.. I wore the wrong shoes to be walking through the park anyhow."
To save herself from having to argue with John she moved to step into the car.

"I, uh...". He began to say, thankful she hadn't taken offence to his outburst and feeling quite ashamed of it, when she flagged down the cab and just hopped right in.
He sighed heavily, before bundling in after her, taking up almost all of the seat and having to put his arm around her as he sat down, blushing a little as he pressed against her. The car leant down on his side so far it was almost touching the ground thanks to his weight...

The driver looked back through the plexiglass divider at the big man for a moment before tapping a few keys on the console, the car leveling out again despite the weight with the hum of an air compressor as the door closed itself shutting John and Sam into the cool dim back seat. "Where to?"
Samantha Smiled at John, glad that he was willing to just let her be nice and put up with a little pampering for a few minutes. "Central Library, back entrance!"
The driver nodded once and then whipped the car back into the flow of traffic with practiced ease... there are very few 'new' drivers on the Aekea streets, they tend to have to give up the profession after a couple of minutes due to panic attacks xp

John grasped the roof of the car as they swung into the street, trying not to crush the girl beside him as the car threw them around. He tried to look out the window, but the rushing movements aggravated his migraine to the point where he saw spots, so he had to look down to Sam, looking over her white hair. "...Thank you for helping me, Sam...I really appreciate it."
He looked down at his hand, the mechanical one, and watched it as it rocked with the car. He opened and closed the fingers slowly, watching as the joints clinked and creaked together.
"Your..." He began, looking over to Sam...before stopping himself. He looked at her through his dark glasses with wide eyes...not really knowing what to do.
It was so hard. The girl was so smart. Beautiful. How he dreamed to take her to a movie, buy her icecream, listen to her talk about boys, impart some sort of...wisdom. But as she'd said....she was over a hundred years old, mentally. Physically she could be just a child, and still retain that knowledge...he wanted to be a father to her. But...she didn't need a father. She needed a roof over her head and food to fill her belly whilst she studied. Absorbed all the knowledge she could. That was what she wanted.
Telling her Hono'o had proposed to him most likely would roll off her like water off a duck's back.
...So why try to gain the connection he was so desperate for? Because he was sick? Because he wanted to make amends for his past failures? Because he wanted to do it right this time?
Did it really matter?
"...Your mother wants to marry me." He finally said quietly. "...How do you feel about that?"

"Oh, Hono'o said... wait what?" Her voice started out sure of itself and somewhat amused but then violet eyes wide with shock turned to the big blond man as the white haired girl twisted to look at him, almost falling off the seat, her voice going a tad strained.
She must have heard him wrong.. he had to mean someone else... not Hono'o... not the little dunce that was more of a child than Samantha had ever been...

HonoRaven " Oh, Hono'o said... wait what?" Her voice started out sure of itself and somewhat amused but then violet eyes wide with shock turned to the big blond man as the white haired girl twisted to look at him, almost falling off the seat, her voice going a tad strained. She must have heard him wrong.. he had to mean someone else... not Hono'o... not the little dunce that was more of a child than Samantha had ever been... That took him aback. He'd expected her to not really care - not react in shock. He spoke a little more slowly now, in soft measured tones, reaching out to grasp her hand gently in his massive, powerful palm. "...I said, your mother wants to marry me. She proposed to me this morning. And I said yes." He raised his left hand to draw his sunglasses off, looking down to her with bloodshot eyes. They were full of pain, yes, but also sincerity, and he rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb, trying to reassure her. "I love your mother, more then anything in the world. I want nothing more then to be a part of this family, but because its a family, I need to know how you feel about it. I know you don't...really mind what we do...at least, it seems like that to me. But, Munin aside...you're still her daughter. Your opinion matters to me."

Violet eyes blinked in surprise a few times, still looking a tad glassy with shock as she slowly shook her head from side to side.... the one thing that was good about Munin was that she always heard what was said around her, being created as a spy would do that for you... but on some occasions, like now, it took her a few moments to process that information.
"I... no that isn't quite right... Samantha, is Raven's daughter. I'm a remnant... something that was supposed to be forgotten with this reincarnation. But you wouldn't make a bad step-father... at least I don't think so." Her voice was soft at first, almost too soft to hear over the whirr of the engine, but it grew stronger as Munin seemed to leave the girl and Samantha took over again.
She was both, ancient and far too young at the same time. "My fathers have been a disappointment on the whole thus far... so lets figure out how to make you better so that we can try again?" Sam quirked a smile just as the car came to a slow stop... they had missed the part where it left the heavy flow of traffic altogether and now the vehicle was parked next to the curb behind a very large building with marble pillars and a peaked roof almost like an old fashioned roman temple.
"Cash, or charge?" The driver's voice came thorough the plexi glass once more, the doors of the car reaming firmly sealed for the moment.

"I'd like that." John said down to her, his smile as big as he could manage without making it feel like his head was going to pop off, and he took up the hand he was grasping to kiss the palm gently, his way of saying thanks.
"Cash." John replied to the taxi driver, reaching into his pocket to pull out his wallet, thumbing over a couple of bills to the man through the crack in the glass before opening the door and almost spilling out onto the sidewalk, leaning against a lamppost and squinting out as the world seemed to blur around him.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea... He wondered to himself as he replaced his dark sunglasses over his bloodshot eyes, the dark tint muting the brightness of the light around him, and easing his pain slightly, before turning to see how Samantha was going...

Sam slipped out of the cab and turned to face the building, motioning that the big man should follow her up the stairs to the doors.
As they would reach the top, the girl would grasp the door handle and turn to John with a slight blush. sweatdrop "If you ever tell Hono'o about this... I will be extremely upset with you!" She started to pull on the handle, the door opening to a very dimly lit hallway before she would suddenly whip her head back to John again. "And that goes double for Bren!" xp
She shook her head and brushed her free hand through her hair as she pulled the door wide open and stepped into the dim hallway, expecting John to follow along behind her. Something subtle changed in her mannerisms, there was a bounce in her step that set her white hair flowing around her shoulders and her small hips swaying.
At the end of the hall was a desk with a tall young man dressed in a security guard uniform, his green eyes were bright and he wore a smile as he watched the girl move towards him. "Samantha, I wasn't expecting you today!"
Sam smiled and looked at the slightly older boy (he couldn't have been more than 19...) through her lashes, violet eyes sparkling. "Hello Alan.. I really hope you don't mind me stopping by today, I told my step-father about how you were so very kind and let me into the private are of the library, and he worried that you were trying to take advantage of me... but you would never do that, would you Alan?"

John followed after Sam slowly, rubbing the bridge of his nose and telling himself to suck it up, when she paused at the door and spoke to him. He blinked down to her, not understanding what she meant, the giant Asgardian feeling very confused.
"A-aye..." John said with a worried tone as he watched her flick her hair free and put an extra sway in her step as she stepped through the door. Pulling it shut behind him, he tried to keep his eyes off her a** and to the destination - what looked like a guards station.
He heard the exchange between them and felt his blood boil. Hono'o knew what she was doing when she toyed with men - she was a fighter, after all. Sam was a scholar, and as far as he knew, didn't have a single battle bone in her body. She should not be sashaying around in front of men to get what she wanted...
"'...But you would never do that, would you Alan?"
"Aye Alan... The giant asgardian growled menacingly down to the boy as he approached the desk, looking over him with all seven of his feet and three hundred pounds of muscle. "...You wouldn't do that..." He continued as he leant forward, the tips of his fingers atop the desk as he put his face right in the boys so he could smell John's breath and see his bloodshot, half-crazed-with-pain eyes, getting so close the boys would have to lean away from him to stop them from touching. "... Would you?!"
He didn't want to put up with the kids s**t. The message was clear - stay away from Sam or a crazy giant viking would rip your tonsils out and stuff them up your a**.

Samantha had hoped that John would play along, but she hadn't quite thought that he would go all scary overprotective on her xp ... oh well, live and learn as the saying goes!
Alan leaned away from the big man, looking rather pale. "I... I would never! The thought never even crossed my mind!" Well, not today at any rate... besides, he knew that the 5'5" girl with the amazing purple eyes and strange penchant to change her hair color on a weekly basis was a lot smarter than she occasionally pretended to be, anyone who wanted into the special collections area of the Aekea library had to have way more brains than a guy who had to get a job as a rent-a-cop sweatdrop
"Um... I, I um understand... Samantha, as always our deal stands! You don't cause any trouble in there and I don't log you in or charge you for the visit... like I am supposed to!" The last part the young man directed towards the looming presence of John, making it clear that he had been only doing a favor for a strange kid who liked old books way more than anyone else he had ever met.
"Thanks Alan! I do appreciate it!" Sam smiled brightly again and tugged at John's arm as she moved towards the locked doors to their left, waiting for the security guard to buzz them in.

" Like you're supposed to." John whispered in return, drinking the mans fear, before he felt a little tug on his arm. He glared at the boy once more before allowing Sam to lead him away.
As he turned to face the same way as her, he leaned down a little so his mouth was near her ear, his voice strained. He sounded a little embarrassed. "Kinda....slathered that on, huh?" He whispered.

Sam wasn't sure if he was talking about himself or her, so all she did was smile as Alan pushed the button under the desk, a buzzer sounding and a loud CLICK as the magnetic lock on the door released and it opened just a crack.
"Looking the way I do, it is sometimes hard to convince people that I am serious about studying... so I have had to employ a few of Hono's little tricks to get into places where the administration is all run by old farts who don't even have half my IQ..." sweatdrop Sam stepped forwards and pushed the door open, holding it for John as she stepped into another small room waiting for the door to re-lock behind them. "This is a clean room... a barrier between the outside world and one of the best collections of rare books that I have ever encountered, plus a lot of high and mighty researchers for the University use this place, and they are all about safety measures." sweatdrop
The door would lock again with a click as the magnet pulled it closed, and there would be the whir of and air compressor for a moment before the pair would be blasted with air as the old air was all sucked out and the room was pressurized in just a few seconds. Brushing her hair back into place Sam would then head for the opposite side of the small room and hit the button to unlock the door.

John snuffed a little as she led him into the decompression room. He'd seen rooms like these before - the air blew out of the holes to blow any tiny dust particles or objects from your clothes, face and hair so you left not traces on anything you touched in the next room.
"Twice their IQ and all you could come up with was to flick your hair and shake your a**?" John muttered down to her as the thing blew his hair all over his face, grumbling a little as it died down - he'd gotten some hair caught in his sunglasses, and he pulled them off to tug the strands free. "Your mother has rubbed off on you more then you think..."
Maybe he was being over-protective. He liked Sam. Not just because she was also a way-point to his heritage. She had always had a bit of spunk to her. She was smart, and knew how to use it. It was disappointing that she only seemed one step away from flashing some cleavage to get what she wanted...perhaps they could work on that.
