Cosette smiled as Jonathan wrapped an arm around her waist. She let her head rest on his shoulder her hair draping over his chest like a velvet pillow. "She helped me out in the kitchen, I figured it was the best place for us to lend a hand."

She smiled as she rested on his lap and motioned to the tray. "Would you like to eat?"

Jonathan smiled at Tawny when she answered that she didn't have any experience with ships. "Well I hope you stay awhile and learn what you can. There are a few books on the shelf if you want to borrow a few, though the contents are not all that interesting." He snuggles tightly with Cosette and grins at his love's question, "Of course."

Cosette smiled and leaned over on his lap, balancing her weight across his legs so she could strech out and pick up the closest plate. Juggling the plate along with the knife and fork she slowly moved in against Jonathan's warm chest again. Placing the plate across her lap she quickly cut off a peice of the steak and with a smile brought the fork up to his lips.

The brunette gave the captain a warm smile. "If you don't mind, I think I will accept that offer of books." she agreed. "I know my letters, though my penmanship looks a bit much like chickenscratch. I never exactly practiced much more than needed. Pa didn't think his daughters would have much need for learning- enough to get by and a head for numbers to help tally the tabs." She stood up, moving over to the books and looking them over curiously. She wasn't used to sitting at a table while anyone ate... keeping busy was what she was best at, and what she preferred. Idle hands, idle minds, and Tawny hated being bored. "If you've need of anyone good with figures, I may be your girl. I picked up a bit of a lot from scholars passing through, and the elders. Not much, but enough." she nodded at him. Wanted to make sure he knew that even though she was new to the seafaring things, she wouldn't be completely useless.

Jonathan grinned to himself as he took the piece of meat offered by Cosette into his mouth. He continued eating the meal, all the while watching the new girl cross the room to the bookshelf and scanning the titles. "There is not much need of someone who is good with figures at the moment," he replied politely to the woman. "We already have a quartermaster on hand. But we do have need of people with training in multiple skills in seafaring." The captain politely set Cosette down from his lap into her chair and continued, in a more professional manner, "Under my command, no man or woman on this ship is useless, so long as they can fight in combat or perform their duties. If you ever need assistance in learning the ropes, so to say, I am always willing to help." Jonathan smirks to himself as his tone turns back to his usual semi-lecherous self, "Especially one such as you with... potential...."

Cosette Slipped easily from Jonathan's lap and onto the chair as he got up to adress Tawny on a more personal Level. She watched them quietly with a slender smirk on her plush lips. Thinking back to when Jonathan had taught her how to fire a musket. She was not the best in combat, far from it but at lest she was alive. She did what she could around the ship to help out, all in all Cosette didnt have a propper station or title, she was just there. The awkward little maid, Jonathan's pet.

All in all it could be much worse, dispite the awkwardness she felt with most of the crew she held her own and rather liked how things had come to pass. After all there could be worse situations, like the one she had come from.

Blue eyes watched the two silently as she played back memories in her mind. Jonathan seemed to have a habit of picking up strays and giving them a home upon the ship.

While the others on the ship went on with their business, Shun continued to keep to himself, doing odd and end jobs around deck to help keep himself from getting bored while they sailed. For the most part, he was perfectly fine being on his own. Being on a ship full of pirates, it generally wasn't too wise to strike up strong alliances anyway. The only person he really had any sort of interest in was Ara, but she seemingly disappeared during that battle with those mutated beings earlier.

Eh... I don't really need to be around her anyway..

As he took a break from his duties, he just let out a small sigh and ran his hand through is hair while leaning against the main mast of the Dementia.

She gave him a lazy smirk. "I'm a fair hand with daggers, if that's what you need." she said finally. "The old men always had something to show off, to impress their waitress. I'll do my best not to have to impose on your kindness, captain. I'm sure you have more important things to be doing than teaching newcomers the ropes." She smiled. "Though if you have anyone who can teach the sword, I acquired a bit of an artifact, purely on a whim." She selected one of the books off the shelf and moved back over to the table, settling into her chair and opening it, looking over the page, legs crossing politely. "Perhaps there is something that could be taught in trade, in regards to scholastic pursuit."

Jonathan let out a hearty laugh. "A woman with priorities!" he exclaimed. "That is something of a rarity here. I do like that." The man gets up off his seat and goes over to where his musket is, standing up at the head of the bed. "Sadly, I'm not much of a fighter," he proclaims, tapping the barrel with his finger. "Marksman and tactician, yes, but fighter... no. You'll have to find someone more suited to the art of swordplay if you wish instruction."

Cosette felt her lips twitch softly into a smirk as Jonathan burst into laugher. She was glad that he seemed to full heartedly accsept Tawny, after all she felt slightly akin to the woman. Something about her made her easy to bond with in the short time they had been on the ship together.

She watched as Jonathan picked up the musket and looked it over as he continued speaking. A full hearted smile washed over her face as she remembered the lessons he had given her in firing the weapon. Her cheeks flushed softly as the full memory of that night entered her mind.

Her blue eyes darted to the floor as she forced the memories back into the depths of her mind to reflect upon later. Clearing her throat she looked up again and offered a friendly smile. "I'm sure you can find someone to teach you swordplay on the ship. Most of the people are knowlagable in at lest one form of fighting. Such is the life."

After waiting around rather idly and doing nothing for a little longer, Shun went ahead and stepped below deck to head into the kitchen. At the moment, he didn't feel all too hungry just yet, but grabbing something to help quench a growing thirst he had would be nice.

It took him a little while to find the kitchen, considering he hadn't fully become acquainted with the ship's interior. But he would get it down sooner or later. And upon entering the room, he found that it was devoid of any of the other crew members for now. The two women, that were headed here, he saw earlier on deck must have wandered off to some other part of the ship.

Shrugging to himself on this, the man just scrounged around the area for some water while thinking about the battle once more. Perhaps later on, if he had room an time, he'd just practice by himself a bit. He wanted to make sure his skills remained sharp in the case the ship got itself into another battle.

Tawny let a genuine smile cross her lips when she saw Cosette's own grin, and at the full sound of the captain's laugh. She eyed the weapon politely, as she had seen guns used, but she'd never been taught to use one. She'd always been the more... physical sort. Raised by a father, though, how could she not have been? "If you happen to come across anyone, captain, Cosette, please do direct them my way." She uncrossed her legs and moved back over to the bookshelf, replacing the book on the shelf and selecting another. "May I borrow this one?" she held up the volume for Jonathan to look over. Some random volume, really, but something she would be able to use to pass the time. Perhaps there would be something of use in it.

Jonathan smiled and nodded at the girl. "Aye, you may borrow whatever you please," he noted with a bit of smug pride. After all, they weren't his books, and he wasn't responsible for them. Their real owner was probably stuck away on some god-forsaken island's midwife's house, cursing at herself about the lack of alcohol she has. "I do enjoy the company of learned scholars and those hungry for knowledge."
The captain points to the door as he continues, "You might find some people more suited to teach you out on the deck. After all, the ones who aren't working the rigging or other important duties are our usual meatshields in combat, serving no general purpose other than to kill and be killed." Jonathan winked, "Do not fret if you choose to become one of them, however, since they are just as valuable and important to this crew as a navigator or lookout."

Cosette nodded softly sending a few raven strands of hair spilling over her shoulders. "I shall be sure to let someone know if I find one experianced in the art of Swordplay." She watched as the woman moved over the books and selected one she liked. Jonathan had been teaching Cosette to read, when she came upon the ship she was little more than a Maid, and most women didnt need to read.

A content smile lingered on her lips as she sighed, she was getting better at reading now at lest. Perhaps Tawny could also help her with that. "I have some books down in the storage that Jonathan Aquired for me, If you like you can also look through there." she offered to Tawny.

Her blue eyes fell on Jonathan as he spoke of the Pirates whom where willing to get into the frey and give their very lives for the life of the ship. Meatsheilds? While there could have been a more articulate why to put that why cover up what they really where with fancy words.

Tawny smiled at them both. Gave them a polite little half-bow, and moved for the door. "I do believe I'm going to take my leave." she said. "Go meet the meatshields. Would you like me to get anything from the galley? Or take anything with me? Get rid of some of those dishes, or fetch more wine?" She looked at both Cosette and the captain, extending her offer to them both.
