❂Dr. Liam Grant❂ I'm not who you think I am... He looked between the two, brow furrowed in thought as he did. Was it worth it? Was getting the kid to stop whining long enough to put on a dumb costume and get some candy worth wearing a humiliating costume? Liam held out his pinky to the boy, staring at him seriously and ignoring Cameron. "If we wear what you want, you'll pick a costume and wear it?" he asked, wanting Julian to promise that he would uphold his end of the bargain. ...I'm far more dangerous than that!

Cameron paled. What was Liam saying! He didn't want to be a monkey! That was so uncool and so not sexy! He shook his head vigorously to try and change Liam's mind, but it didn't work. With a bright smile, Julian wrapped his pinky finger around Liam's. " Yeah!" he agreed, unaware of the angry officer behind him that had steam coming out of his eyes. Ignoring him, Julian inspected the outfits one more time before seeing a perfect one. " Ooh! Wear that one!" he said and pointed to a pink, fluffy dress with matching pink wings and a crown. Cameron looked to the dress then immediately snickered. " You'd make a cute princess." " Noooo!" Julian huffed angrily and glared at the cop. " He'll be a fairy princess!"

❂Dr. Liam Grant❂ I'm not who you think I am... With his head held high, Liam grabbed a fairy princess costume that would probably fit him and tossed it into the basket, tmglancing to Cameron once. "Thats right, I'll be a fairy princess. And your father will be a gorilla that sleeps on the porch." Evil eyes narrowed at the cop before softening as he looked back to the child. "Now, let's pick your costume." ...I'm far more dangerous than that!

The officer gave Liam a look of both surprise and amusement. He was seriously going to be a princess? This grown man - this serial killer - was going to dress up as a fairy? Cameron looked sideways at Julian, who was snickering in enjoyment. This was a trick! This was nothing to be proud of! Sighing nevertheless, the officer decided to not argue and let Liam pick Julian's outfit.

❂Dr. Liam Grant❂ I'm not who you think I am... Liam leafed through several costumes, then pulled a Jason costume from the rack and threw it into the basket. Clearing his throat, he nodded towards the counter and stood up as straight as he could. "I'm going to go buy these. Cameron, find your size costume and don't dally. We don't have much time before it's time to trick-or-treat, and you know how much i hate missing out on candy." ...I'm far more dangerous than that!

" If you want one my size, we're going to have to go to a Halloween store." Cameron snorted and reluctantly pulled out his wallet as the items were scanned. " Just because you can fit into a child's costume doesn't mean you should act like one." he mumbled to Liam before handing the cashier the money.

❂Dr. Liam Grant❂ I'm not who you think I am... "Cameron, I'm wearing a dress!" he hissed at the policeman, taking the bag from the cashier and lifting Julian out of the basket, holding him on his hip until they were out of the store, then setting him down and firmly holding his hand. "Now, where's the closest Halloween store?" ...I'm far more dangerous than that!

" Yeah. Exactly. I don't know why the heck you're proud of that." Cameron hissed back and grunted a thanks when given the bag holding their Halloween items. He held it in one arm and let his free hand go to his side. Reluctantly, he answered, " There's one near the northern exit. There's one store they always change up for every holiday."

❂Dr. Liam Grant❂ I'm not who you think I am... "Then you go. I'm going to get Julian something to eat before we go," he said, gesturing towards an ice cream shop. "Meet us there." Although he wouldn't admit to spoiling the child, Liam clearly did, and adored his boy, proudly walking despite the princess costume he would soon be wearing. ...I'm far more dangerous than that!

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." The physicist had been slapped thirteen full times by the time he finally stopped to rest on the fountain in the middle of the food court, He held his hand to his stinging cheek, lower lip trembling as the tears threatened to flow. Why didn't anyone want to sleep with Reed? He was funny, sweet, smart in his own way, kind, caring, generous, handsome- Wait, what? He shook his head in an attempt to clear his mind, but all he could think of was Reed's laugh, his strange sense of humor and his tremendous talent. He was such a wonderful teacher, too, gently guiding his students into perfection, and all the while remaining strict with their mistakes. He was such a fantastic person, worthy of anyone's love, worthy of anyone's attention. In an attempt to force himself out of his mental fawning over his best friend, Alan started to scout the mall again, his bright red cheek lighting up the one side of his face. "The numbers never lie."

Across the fountain, on the opposite side of Alan, was a woman. She leaned against the edge, propping her chin up with one hand as the other lazed around at the fountain's edge. On her back was a blue case that was shaped to hold a violin. She sighed, a forlorn expression on her face.

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." Spying the woman, Alan immediately started to scoot to the other side of the fountain. He moved rather quickly, considering his small size and low strength, but soon enough sat by the woman and clasped his hands on his lap, smiling sweetly. "Hello, miss," he greeted, cute face beaming at her. "Why the long face? A lady as pretty as you should be smiling all the time!" He reached into his pocket for a small satin daisy, holding it out to the woman. "Here, cheer up!" "The numbers never lie."

Spotting a presence besides her, the woman turned her head to see the young boy greeting her. She quirked an eyebrow at him. One half of his entire face was swollen, and what was with that strange look in his eyes? Glancing down at the flower presented to her, the woman brought her other eyebrow up for a look of disturbance. "Umm, thank you?" she questioned as she took the flower. She looked at it then back to him. "Do you... carry flowers in your pocket to give to random girls?" The flower, the kid's look... She wasn't going to be asked to prom, was she?

☸ Alan Brandt ☸ "The science of it all is simple." He shook his head, looking down as he kicked his feet a little. "Not usually. In fact, I'm pretty awful at talking to girls for myself." He lifted his eyes to her, light green orbs reflecting a smile. "But I'm trying to do something for my best friend, so I'm willing to forgo my usual awkwardness. You see, he's divorced, and hasn't had a date in years, maybe forever!" The adult male pulled out his phone, the case bearing a sparkling music note. "Wait, you're really pretty. Maybe you could go on a date with him!" Pulling up a photo of them two, Alan turned the phone to her with a large smile on his youthful face, the picture of Alan being his usual cranky self and Reed laughing as he draped his arms over the tiny adult. "His name's Reed, and he's a teacher at the academy. He's really smart and funny, and sweet and handsome. It's just one date, please?" His cheek stung as tears surfaced, mentally loathing himself for stopping to using his looks to get a date for Reed. "The numbers never lie."

The woman narrowed her eyes as she heard the explanation. Seriously?! She was about to be asked out for another guy? First off, what the hell was this weirdo making puppy dog eyes at her for, and second, what kind of loser was the other guy to need this kid do the asking for him?! The woman raised her hand to add another slap to his collection when she saw the picture, freezing in place. That smile, that white hair, that facial tattoo. "Reed?" she breathed and gently put her hands on the phone like a picture frame. She gazed at the man for a long time, completely forgetting the smaller male for a second as a veil of guilt and something deeper covered her clear eyes. After so long... The woman was quiet for a moment, then, after a gulp, set her arms down and smiled sweetly at the man. "I'd love to go on a date with him." she agreed.
