Ulrich laughed with Donovan while Haldia looked on, completely confused. "I don't understand," she murmured, leaning in closer to Lin.
Earendil didn't say anything, hoping that Ulrich would stop teasing him. Enough was enough, after all, and people had been saying just the wrong things all day.
Ulrich took the hint, and he chuckled softly and turned to Donovan and Kara. "Aye, I would imagine this would be the only time you can really visit with her, since she's never home anymore," he grinned. "What with all the time she's spending here. In our world, I mean."

"He's teasing...." Lin replied softly, "He's always like this."
Not that she could blame Ulrich it was probably too tempting since Earendil was the one holding the baby.
Donovan gave Ulrich a wryly smile, "I know, I should have expected it eventually but even now it's sort of weird."
Even though it had only been a few months in reality.

Haldia nodded slowly. "Still, he's making Earendil uncomfortable," she murmured quietly. "Though ... I really can't understand why he would be. It is not as if he were asking if Earendil were the father of the baby, that would be a different question, would it not?"
And even if that were it, why not just laugh it off?
Ulrich chuckled at Donovan. "Weird? Because she's off doing her own thing all the time? But she was doing that all through her childhood, you know that. So why is it so different now?"

Lin blinked that was a good question, why was Earendil so embarrassed for being called Miyuki's father.
"Actually... I have no clue."
"But I got her back in an hour, or at least at the end of the day," Donovan protested halfheartedly.
Kara rolled her eyes, "See what I put up with? Now don't you feel sorry for these little girls we have now."
"What? I wouldn't do anything."
"Donovan, remember that field trip Lin took, in our world, you gave her and her friends tasers. You took every single male classmate aside and talked to them."
"I didn't talk to Kin or Quinn!"
"Only because Quinn is taken and Kin's mother is more terrifying than your own."

"Hmm." Haldia nodded thoughtfully, then sat back and listened to the conversation.
Ulrich was cracking up already. "And here I thought Lin was single because she chose to be," he laughed, having heard about a taser once before and so knowing what it was. "Donovan, you're more protective than anyone I've ever heard of. Even Elrohir was never that bad, and you know what he was like!"

"Because Lin wouldn't get it until it whacked her upside the head and by then it would be too late," Donovan replied pointedly.
"I would not," said daughter protested.
His eyes narrowed, "Oh reallllyyy?"
Lin already had a bad score of two times where she didn't know until it was far too late, and unfortunately for her she didn't know there was third.

The conversation was starting to get a little too confusing for Haldia, who was having trouble even just understanding the words. She looked at Earendil, feeling lost, but he simply shook his head at her.
He had nothing to say. He knew what Donovan was talking about. And he just hoped beyond hope that Donovan didn't see how he felt, even though Shael had suggested otherwise. The last thing he needed was to be in trouble with the man.
Ulrich was having fun though. "Oh? Lin's had admirers and didn't realize it?" he asked, his eyes gleaming.

Donovan decided to skip over the Jonsons because they weren't admirers and they were more like perverts. Though that was not a good way to introduce the birds and the bees and sexual innuendos.
"I heard from Kaito about a particular boy she met while out viewing the Southland," he paused, "Well and then there was Kin, Ren said-"
"Ren wanted her son to learn how to approach a female without giving himself an ulcer, that doesn't constitute as having an admirer."
"But he kept calling."
"Because he I am one of only two females who is one, not crazy and two, not scared by the crazy ones!"
"Okay, but you can't deny the boy in the Southland," Donovan pointed out.
"How was I supposed it know he was looking for a wife?"

And that just set Ulrich off all over again.
Suddenly Ulani appeared in the kitchen doorway, her hands covered in flour. "What's going on in here?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "Hello, Kara ... Donovan. Lin, Earendil and ... Haldia, right?"
Haldia nodded at Ulani, smiling uncertainly.
Ulani looked at Ulrich again. "What's set him off?"

"Dad!" Lin grounded out as she gave her father an evil look.
Well as evil as Lin could muster she wasn't so good at the whole evil thing really.
"Donovan was telling Ulrich about Lin's past admirers," Kara explained dryly, "He seems to think it's funny, and Donovan will you stop teasing your daughter."
"I wasn't teasing I was telling the truth."

"Well, it's hardly surprising," Ulani smiled. "I mean, look at you, Lin. You're a beautiful, intelligent young woman. Why should it be so surprising that you might have an admirer or two? You just better be careful not to spend too much time with those men, or you may well be in danger of having someone fall truly in love with you."
The moment the words were out of her mouth, she saw Earendil turn a bright shade of red. She bit her lower lip and tried not to draw attention to the man. That had been unexpected ...
Well, at least she was on this side of Lin, so if Lin were looking at her, she wouldn't see Earendil. Perhaps the man would have time to recover.

"But Dad's telling Ulrich of all the times I didn't notice," Lin replied exasperated at her father for being such a pain. Honestly, why did he have to do that to her, "And he's been teasing me since we were at Shael and Adonai's place."
"I wasn't teasing, I was showing off pictures," Donovan replied, "What? Consider yourself lucky your mother can't use a camera or else we would have a whole album of things to show people?"
He grinned almost innocently at that.

"Shiro brought one of those things here once," Ulani grinned. "It was interesting, to see ourselves so tiny, so clear ... Adonijah shied away from it of course, but we had fun with it."
Leave it to Shiro to technologize this world.
"Picture?" Ulrich beamed. "Can we see? They're so much clearer than paintings!"

"Sure," Donovan replied, "Just give me a moment, I have my hands full with Faith. Which one?"
"Dad!" Lin didn't know why she bothered her father was enjoying this way too much, "Wait did you say pictures?"
"Yea, I have one from that prom you went to, even though technically you were there for that Ying girl, and, I have one of you trying to eat an candy cane because unlike your mother, I can use a camera."
Goddesses help her, she wanted to throttle her father right now.

Ulani chuckled softly and turned to Ulrich. "Chi nghwai lur," she told him, her eyes sparkling. Then she turned to the others. "I have to get back to my baking before it gets dry, I'll be back as soon as it's done."
And she headed off to the kitchen, still shaking her head and laughing.
Ulrich laughed. "Go ahead and put Faith on the floor," he grinned at Donovan. "She'll be fine. And why don't we look at all of them?"
