It was a lovely day in the forests stretching between The Land of Rice and the Land of Fire. Light streamed lazily through the trees, casting a pale, dappling pattern across the shinobi walking below.
Shuniji had not stopped whistling in over two hours.
"♪♪~~~ ♪♪~~~~~"
He wasn't bad at it by any stretch, and his endurance for it was anything if not miraculous. On the other hand...
"♪~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"
Two. Hours.
He switched to humming for what could be assumed to be the chorus of his most recent tune, but was back to whistling in seconds, this time at a more piercing volume to juxtapose his comparably lazy stroll.
Despite the distance between the Sound and Leaf being on the short side, one would have assumed such a fact would make Shuniji more eager to hurry up and get there, not to mention the implied importance of his mission.
Shuniji quirked a bit of a smile, which threw off the pitch of one of his notes. He liked calling it "his" mission.
However, because of the gravity of his situation, he felt the need to plan things out the best he could. Some people clicked their pens or tapped their feet when they thought. Shuniji whistled.
He must've been a joy to have in his academy class.

An irritated sigh came from Seika as she got dragged away from her reading by the bothersome noise Shuniji was making. The first hour was bearable. She was fine with a bit of noise. After all she thrived off of it. However too much of the same tune got a bit irritating, even for herself. The thought had crossed her, that he may be doing it on purpose. Then again....Shuniji was just naturally annoying.
"So, have you figured out how you're going to get another man to touch your chest?" Seika's voice seemed to have quite a bit of volume to it. If he couldn't hear her, she'd probably start up with some queer innuendo. C'mon let's face it. Pink, tight clothing, rainbow hair, Trying to get another man to touch him, whistling? He as an easy target and she knew it. Though the real reasoning behind her seemingly innocent question, was to get him to stop that horrible whistling.
Her last resort would be turning the outside speakers on her headphones on and outmatch him in noise making. Normally it was used for her Genjutsu...but when you're desperate..

“ ♪--!”
After hours of silence, Seika’s sudden inquiry managed to startle Shuniji into tripping, both over his feet and his song. He shuffled forward, turning over his shoulder slowly to glare at Seika for her “impudence”.
“That’s kind of what I’m trying to come up with right now, thankyouverymuch,” he snapped his head back around to face forward while jumping into a march. His steps softened after only a brief moment as he decided if Seika was going to bother asking questions, she may as well be subjected to listen to his problems.
“Not that I’d expect you to know any of this, but human interactions are tricky. You’ll meet people who say they can predict behaviors and read emotions, but when it comes down to it, mankind is easily the most chaotic force to be reckoned with. No matter how thorough I am in my planning, nothing is a hundred-percent guaranteed, and that’s… unsettling.”
Shuniji’s insecurity lay buried under thick layers of passive aggression and philosophy. So far this mission was compounding all of the stressors in his life into a single, neat package that weighed on him like a goddamn anvil. Undeniable recognition and glory lay closer than ever, but he was running on virtually zero information. Shuniji’s precarious position in life was anxiety-inducing enough as it was, even while ignoring his most recent string of luck concerning his missions, which he was currently trying oh-so hard to do.
Shuniji kept his head turned away from Seika and eyes focused firmly on the road, lest she see the various shades of panic flit across his face.

I hide behind a smile...╔══.♥.═══════════╗ ...Seika Cheshiru... ╚═══════════.♥.══╝
Completely ignoring Shun's first statement, Seika returned to her book. Now that he stopped whistling, she could carry on with whatever it was she had been doing. However, she couldn't relax just yet. Shuniji seemed to be having something troubling his mind. It was actually sad that he was venting to her of all people. After all, she was the worst when it came to "Problems" because she would always manage to compromise with them as soon as she was subjected to them. Of course...that was Seika, not Shuniji.
"Indeed. It would be convenient if everything was "perfect" wouldn't it?" Seika patronized him and glanced up from her book with a dead stare. There wasn't much she could say on the matter, besides tell him to grow a pair and deal with it. Because last time she tried words of reassurance, he basically spit on her. So there wasn't any point in doing it again. "I don't know about you, but these missions are all I've got when it comes to doing something different, something fun. I'd rather not have them predetermined." She continued with a more casual tone. It was obvious that she wasn't telling him how to handle it. She was only commenting on the fact that these missions were the only action she got around such a hell hole like Sound, and that stressing about them would just ruin it.
SNAP! "However." Seika's little opinion had been silenced by the sound of her book snapping shut. As if cutting off their current subject, leaving it to die back where it was thought of. "What I find more concerning is, what will happen if he DOES touch your little gem stone." Her facial expression was now solemn and wary. "What if this mission does work out? It's obvious that whatever you have, won't explode and sprout flowers and joy everywhere." No...Seika didn't have a problem with people dying, but what bugged her was the possibility that she'd get caught in the crossfire and die as well. Or maybe it was that Seika was having fun with what she was doing now. To have it end so abruptly would be a shame. Then again...she didn't mind dying so much anymore. It's not like she had anything else to live for. But dying by Shuniji's hand was out of the question. The thought made her eye twitch unconsciously.

Shuniji groaned dramatically. "You're onto something with that 'perfect world' thing. We should get someone to look into that," Shuniji joked in a sullen monotone. "But I guess you're also right about the missions too." He heaved another heavy sigh. "Perfect is boring. I don't want to be boring, but I want to be perfect--ARGH! LIFE! WHY ARE YOU SO HARD!?"
Shuniji was standing with his arms and legs spread out in the middle of the road, making grasping motions toward the treetops.
"Sigh..." Seika's continued rationale caused his torso to flop over in mock defeat. "Ugh, Seika, don't give me anything more to worry about. That detail isn't part of my job," he whined.
After it had been implied that he'd been promoted to weapon of mass destruction, Shuniji was being strangely uninterested in what was going on with his person. On the other hand, the mounting stress of the attached responsibilities was forcing him to compartmentalize.
"Since when do you care about, like, anything?"
On the other hand, it made him belligerent and sulky.

Seika almost face-palmed at Shuniji's strange and possibly creepy gestures towards the tree's and whatever they were directed at. Really, Shun? REALLY?! Geez this guy was worse than Kaichou when he got rejected by other men....or at least they were really masculine girls. Seika could never really tell.
However, Seika was caught off guard when Shuniji started to imply that she actually cared about things. They were select, but she did care about SOME things. She didn't really have any family anymore. No friends, all her possessions were probably destroyed by her father when she decided to shun him for life. So what does that leave? What could she possibly care about now? She only stalked hung around one person, and that was Shuniji. Seika could feel herself getting all flustered again, which made her uncomfortable and embarrassed that he called her out on something she was trying to hide. "I'd be a horrible body guard if I wasn't concerned about your well being, be that physical or mentally..." Seika found herself trying to dump her reasoning on her job again and stopped herself, getting even more flustered and irritated. She could even feel her face burning up! This feeling didn't sit well with her. And it shouldn't.
In the midst of her emotional confusion she found the only way to solve this uncomfortable situation, was with violence. "S-shut up! It doesn't matter! Now, get your a** moving, you rainbow hooligan!" Seika countered and started shoving him along with one hand, while swatting him around with her book. It was a hardback too...He must have really nailed something.

"Tsuuuuuunnnndeeeeeereeeeee--Ah! AH! OUCH! HEY, SEI-OW! OUCH!!"
Shuniji's moment of immature teasing was swiftly ended by a hurricane of slaps that landed against the side of his head.
"HEY! OW! STOP IT! AH! THAT THING HAS EDGES! WHO THE HELL PUBLISHED THIS THING--OOOWW!!"
It was only when he started choking on his wildly-flying hair (which was starting to taste a little like his own blood) that Shuniji realized both of them were moving. Seika was shoving the older ninja down the road like a freight train, starkly juxtaposing the lagging pace Shuniji had been keeping until then.
Shuniji remembered, briefly, that he had been in the process of moping, stressing and generally fretting about what was to come, but thanks to Seika, they were shrieking and running like children.
"..."
Shuniji eventually slowed down to a brisk jog while keeping in step with Seika. He glanced at her curiously for a moment.
A grin then suddenly burst across his face as he swiped at Seika's book.
"What's in this thing, anyway? Bricks? Seeeeecrets?" He made exaggerated motions of pretending to examine it closely and crumple the pages. Then he took off down the road.
"If you don't hurry up, I'm going to crack your code and reveal all your secret, girly, diary business to the Leaf Village~!"
Sometimes being immature was the better choice.

Yuzuki walked towards the old man's place, this was going to be a disaster if the other two didn't show up. The old man was not getting his moneys worth if it was going to be just her, but Yuzuki would let the Raikage know if she was going to be the only one doing the escort mission, hopefully she was going to be enough for it. If they kept a low profile then they should be alright, granted, bandits had a talent for smelling ryo a mile away. Hopefully it wouldn't come down to it... actually she hoped that it did come down to that, but only on a scale that she could handle as a Genin, but what were the odds of that in reality? Meh, the more desperate the bandit the stupider they become, and they couldn't mold chakra either. Hopefully. Rogue ninja would be a huge pain, and something she would unlikely be able to handle alone. She put her hands behind her head and focused on trying to remember where the old mans house was. It was still fairly fresh in her mind so she wasn't too worried about totally forgetting where it was.
It didn't take her too long to get to the old mans hovel, er... home. She looked behind her and groaned, what a pain. Oh well, it wasn't like she went... alright this was the first time she'd be going totally solo on this mission if that was the case. The last time she went 'alone' was with Chiyu, and he probably did most of the work (though she took on and held the leader up for a while, that was something to her credit). This was different thought, she had more experience under her belt, more Jutsu and a little better chakra control that previously so she could last a little longer. Yuzuki saw the old dirt road that lead to the farmers place, she walked inbetween the rows of dirt so as not to disturb the mounds and whatever else was planted in the soil. It was getting late in the year, but she was no farmer, perhaps some of the best crop was last moment. She felt a little bad though, she had tried to get the old man a good deal that he could afford and instead she got him a freshly gather group at best... and one lone genin at worse. she closed her eyes. Hopefully this wasn't going to be a fail on her part. It would be her first failed mission, and she heard that those were always the worse to report. It was both embarassing and pride crushing. She had a good run of four, so five missions would be a good pat on her back. She opened her eyes a few heartbeats later and approched the door of the old mans house. Climbing up the stairs she knocked on the door to the shack....you won't wake up from.

It was a few moments before the familiar shuffling of the old mans footsteps could be heard; the field around the mans home appeared to be plowed sense Yuzuki had last been here; showing the man had been at work sense she had left. As the man opened the door he greeted the Genin with a warm smile as he looked up at her. "Why hello there Yuzuki; Welcome back" He said happily to the girl; it had been about a month sense she had left; and it appeared (Seeing as how he was still here) that he had managed to sell enough of his crop in order to keep his life functioning. "How are you? Did you talk to the Raikage?" He asked still smiling up at the girl as he asked this.

"Hey Gramps." Yuzuki greeted back, an odd warmth in her tone. Though she sighed at the news that she brought with her, her right eye closed and she crossed her arms under her chest. "I did talk to the Raikage... and it's a bit of a 'good news, bad news' situation. Good news is that that I did get you a lower rate and a discount... the bad news is... that it looks like I'm the only one of the team that's made it so far. So... yeah... I'm hoping that they just slept in, and that they'll catch up with us on the way." Yuzuki wasn't sure how to take this really, and she hoped that the old man wasn't going to think of this as an utter failure on her part, she did get him the discount he was after... and he may very well be paying even less if it was just her so that would make him happy. Downside, the risk for loss was even greater with only one. Stratigies were limited and it was only her chakra going into the pool, so she'd have to ration it as much as possible. It was hard, hopefully not impossible for her....you won't wake up from.

Yuzuki looked down at the old man with a bit of surprise. She wasn't often asked if she would go alone. "I-I.... well, that's really up to you, if you trust me and would rather not rough it out in the wilderness, that I don't mind going alone, if you'd perfer to come along with so that you can see your seller and talk to him, that's perfectly fine too. Your the employer so I'll let you decide." Yuzuki could see an advantage and disadvantage to both paths: If the old man came, she could react quicker because she wouldn't be weighed down, on the other hand, they would have to go at his pace and thus, run a greater risk of being ambushed. Flip the senario around though, and she probably could get there faster on her own, but if she was ambushed she would be burdened by the load. Either way, there was no garentee that the pot wouldn't get broken or stolen in the process. "Honestly, either way has its advantages and disadvantages... and unfortunatly; because I'm only a genin and there is only one of me, I can't fully garentee the safety of the contents or promise the goods will arrive... or you for that matter if you decide to come. The old man stood there for a few moments and thought about what it was that Yuzuki had said; it was all correct; but then again; with how long the herbs had already been sitting there the sooner they got sold the better; meaning even if there was a higher chance something would happen; it was better then having the chance of the product being worthless by time they got there due to him slowing them down. "I trust you; I think it would be best if you went on your own; the sooner the better" He said nodding before pulling out a small notepad and jotting some notes down; mainly the address of the seller and how to get there. Other then that it was just some info that the seller might ask for.

Yuzuki closed her eyes and nodded. "Very well then. I think you made a good choice. I'll be back as soon as I can." She understood and respected what the old man said, it made sense and was logical. Yuzuki checked the top to make sure that it was snug and secure. By the looks of it, she could do some manuvouring without having to worry too much, though she wouldn't want to push her luck with it. Once things looked good to go she got the gody thing on her back and waited for the old man to returned with the address, she really didn't know her way around the leaf, but she was sure that she could ask for directions to getting it there... if she made it at all, or if she could get some of it there. Whatever. When the note was finished and handed to her, she made a quick note of the direction of where the seller was before she put it safely way so that she didn't run the risk of loosing it on her way. Everything looked good, she didn't have any quesitons, she didn't really have anything else that she needed here and the herbs were breaking down as they spoke. She nodded to the old man and then started to make her way towards the Village Hidden in the Leaves. She would have to move fast, quietly and cautious. Hopefully this wasn't going to be a trip to disaster. In truth it wasn't going there that had her worried... it was coming back with the money. Yuzuki tipped some water to her lips while she continued to bound from tree to tree as silently as possible. It had been about a day sense she left the old man and after a quick breakfast she was on the move again. She looked behind her, half expecting to see her other two team mates coming up behind her any moment now. But it was as she suspected, and actually came to get use to; nobody was coming. It was just her, and her alone. She faced forwards again, glaring though her eyebrows at whatever was ahead of her at the time. She would like to say that it didn't bother, she'd like to say that, but in the end she wasn't sure what to think anymore. Part of her wanted friends and someone who would take the time to understand her, the rest of her seethed and sought to strangle that other part of herself. When one came into the world, they were alone, and it was the same as when one left the world. So why should she care if a couple of other people were absent... aside from giving them a turn to carry this god damned jug. Ugh, this thing was killing her shoulders but there was no other way for her to carry it. Feh, whatever, she could do it... it wasn't like she had a choice to being with anyway. Yuzuki pulled herself out of her thoughts and let her eyes scanned her surroundings. Making sure there was no bandits... or big cats... or bears... or... alright she was making sure that she was the only thing that was giong this way at this exact time. If Kazin was here he could use his Byakugan or whatever it was called and scan the area around here. But he was not, so that was out of the picture entirely. Her fifth mission huh, first going totally solo, it didn't seem too bad so far. Not that she really gave anyone a chance to ambush her... or at least she hoped not, being a genin she was going to make genin mistakes no matter what she did. She wasn't that experienced compaired to Kiko... or at least she assumed not. Yuzuki brough her water to her lips again, before putting the cork back into her gourd and attaching it back to her belt. Now if only the rest of the trip would go so smoothly... she'd have this in the bag. Money could be easily concealed, the gourd... not so much.
