"Ah, well," Elnara grinned. "When you run out of room for yourself, then I'll start to worry."
It wasn't like his room at the cafe was very big, after all.
"On the other hand," she amended, reflecting back on another situation, "there are worse things to have cluttering up your house, after all."

Lore chuckled at the look on her face, "Does cluttering remind you of something," he asked.
Wondering what it was she was thinking that could be wrose than having papers and books fill a work space.

Elnara shrugged one shoulder and started fidgeting with her scarf again. "Useless trophies and self-portraits," she murmured, her eyes growing distant and unfocused. "Things that ... mean nothing to anyone except yourself, that take up room that could be used for better things, things that have meaning."
Idhril stared at her mother in confusion for a while, then blinked, then smiled at Lore and said, "I like books. Books are good. They teach things."

He wondered if she knew someone like that, but did not question it. There were things that seemed to make her fidget quite a bit.
Lore nodded at Idhril, "Most books do yes," he agreed.
Well if one wanted to argue the way of the Literature student, all books had something to say, it depended on what you wanted to get out of it.

Rigel rested his chin on one hand and smiled at Elnara.
"Elnara, dear, you're spacing out again," he murmured in amusement. It was something she had always done, even as a child, and he had always gotten a good laugh out of it.

Elnara flushed and lowered her hands in embarrassment, letting the scarf settle once again over her scars. "Sorry," she murmured, her face a bright shade of red. "It's been happening a lot lately."
Idhril giggled. "Mama's a funny colour, isn't she, Papa?" she giggled up at Lore.

Lore coughed at that, he had seen that colour on Elnara before, but it was just odd having Idhril point it out.
"Ah.... well... that's what happens when you're embarassed, or nervous... or..." well blushing could be triggered by many things really.

Elnara laughed softly and lowered her eyes. "I'm sorry, Grandfather ... memories always seem to return to me at the most inopportune times." She laughed again.
Idhril looked thoughtfully at Lore. "Do I ever do that Papa?" she asked. "Serenity does it a lot ... but do I?"

Rigel chuckled a bit and patted Elnara's shoulder reassuringly. "Now, now," he smiled. "There's no reason to apologize. It happens to the best of us, after all."
At Idhril's words, he looked at Lore questioningly. "Serenity?"

Lore shook his head, "Not that I know of," he murmured before looking up at Rigel.
He smiled softly, when he realized that the name (of course now that he thought about it) had meaning to the man before him.
"One of the children," Lore explained, "Her name is Serenity. There are seven children in total, and Serenity is.. one of the older children."

"Second," Elnara beamed proudly. "Celebor is the oldest, he's an elf like Idhril here; then Serenity, who is human; then Skye, who is an angel - they're all about ... eight or so. Then Storm and Starr, twin angels, who are smaller than Idhril, though older; then Idhril, then Silvrendir."
Idhril giggled. "I'm Storm and Starr's big little sister, just like Silver dear is my big little brother!"

Rigel laughed. "Indeed!" he chuckled, ruffling Idhril's hair affectionately. "Well you just might grow up to be taller than him, you never know."
Suddenly the activity in the next room increased, and Rigel looked at Lore and Elnara apologetically. "It looks like the first customers are arriving," he murmured. "Which means that it's time for me to show my face for a while. You're very welcome to stay, finish your meal, relax out back for a while ..."
"There are some swings out back if you'd like," Soronume offered, "and I would love to keep chatting with you." Her eyes turned to Elnara, and they were warm, filled with love. "It's been so long, after all ..."

Lore smiled, "Thank you for the offer," he tilted his head at Elnara, "We're not due back any time soon," he murmured to Elnara, "So we could stay longer."
Since she might want to do some catching up with her grandmother, and probably tell her all about the other children."

Elnara nodded and smiled at Lore. "I think they're expecting us to be gone all day, or most of the day, anyways," she replied softly. "Though really we wouldn't be missed until dinner ... which ..."
She hesitated and lowered her eyes again. "... might not be so bad."
She didn't want a repeat of the night before.
Idhril was thrilled. "Swings outside?" she asked brightly. "That sounds like fun! Hurry, Mama! Hurry, Papa! Let's go!" And she tugged on Lore's hand from where she was standing on the table, trying to urge him to his feet (though her level of success was debatable - she could hardly lift Lore's hand at all).

Soronume laughed. "Yes, swings. Follow me, then," she smiled at all of them and beckoned for them to follow her out a door in the far side of the room.
The backyard was, for being in the middle of a mountainside city, quite spacious and - most remarkably of all - green. Lush grass grew all over the yard, and there was a small vegetable garden in one corner. At the back of the garden grew several rose bushes with bright red roses at full bloom. Next to the roses were two swingsets: one was a set of individual swings meant for children, and the other was a large one meant for up to four or five people.
