"She doesn't have to go on anything she doesn't want to go on," Toby said, offering Maia a smile and a wink. The poor thing. He had never taken her to an amusement park before!
"I thought you might," he said then, "Don't forget your neck and face. Don't spray it in your face, though. Spray it in your hand, then rub it on your face." Being a fair-skinned human was a bit of a production. Toby himself wasn't even sure he could burn any more, but he didn't want to risk it.

"I'll go on one roller coaster and see how I like it," Maia offered, smiling at Kevin, and then Toby. "I've never been on one before," she added, more to her fiancé than the teenager.
Kevin spayed some into his hand and rubbed it on his face and neck. "Not even once?" He asked. "Me either! You can sit by Toby so you don't get too scared," he added.

"We'll start off with a smaller one, then," Toby said with a nod. People who didn't like roller coasters generally hated them, and he didn't want Maia terrified. "I've never brought her here. I don't now why. I guess it just slipped my mind."
Dari was the next to sunscreen himself. "I've never been able to go on the rides for my... unusual physics. This will be my first time too."

"I want to sit by you then!" Kevin decreed, looking to Dari. "Will you go on all the rides with us, Dari?" He asked hopefully.
"There's a ferris wheel too," Maia began.
Kevin made a face. "They're slow, though!"

Dari nodded. "I'd like to."
Poor Maia. Toby smirked and turned to Kevin. "It actually might be higher up than a lot of the rollercoasters." Maybe. He couldn't be sure just looking at it.

Kevin seemed impressed by the height factor. He grinned. "Okay, we can go on it after the first roller coaster," he amended. "Dari, what ride do you want to go on most?"

"Any of them," Dari admitted, "Centrifugal force made them no fun before. Let's try a roller coaster."
Toby approached the big map board situated near the entrance and looked it over. "Which one?"
Each roller coaster was shown in miniature where it belonged on the map, and a color-and-number legend beside offered its name.

Kevin looked over the map before selecting the biggest roller coaster on there and pointing to it. "Let's go on this one!" He said. "Dari can go on all the rides with me!" He looked to Toby. "You can go with Maia on a mushy ride, but then you have to go on this really cool one." He pointed to another roller coaster. It claimed to be the fastest in the state.
Maia looked over the map. She glanced at Toby.

"You don't have to go if you don't want to," Toby assured Maia quietly with a little chuckle. "This may be a bit much for a first roller coaster."
"I could stay with her," Dari offered, although really he wanted to go. He'd sacrifice a ride or two for Maia, though.

"I'll be fine, you go," Maia encouraged Dari. She grinned at the three guys. "I'll watch," she said. "I've never seen a rollercoaster up close," she added. The small ones at the carnival they'd gone to didn't really count.

"Are you sure?" Toby asked. He didn't want to see Maia standing around alone equally as much as he wanted to go on the ride.
Dari just nodded and kissed Maia's cheek.

Maia gave Toby a reassuring smile. "I'll go find an ice cream place," she said, and studied the map. "There's one," she said, and smiled at Dari. "I'll wait in line with you," she added.

"The rides are usually only a minute or so long, if even," Toby said. She didn't have to go away if she was going to wait with them. He also knew this place had a pretty awesome fudge shop.

Really? Only a minute? Why did people wait in line so long for it, then? Maia blinked, and then recovered. "Let's go," she took Toby's hand.
Kevin frowned. "Dari, we should make the longest going rollercoaster," he said.

Toby accepted Maia's hand and began off toward the roller coaster.
"I'm sure there's one somewhere," Dari said. "Sometimes on special nights they'll run them more than once."
