Plots > Cliche IMHO. Always try to make it something nobody has read before, but something you can get into as well. Im 6'4 and 240 lb's in real life, why on earth would I want to be anything like that in a game where I can be whatever I want to be. Thus, Meji is a wimpy little egg head with a heart of gold, a loving family, and big aspirations

Wow we are talking about plots now ... I think every one should have a plot for there characters ... maybe not some thing big but more little and then when they come together you can bust it out and make some crazy a** plot that no one would want to stop role playing too. That's just me .. and I am silly crazy like that.
If you guys really want to have more fun with your characters think about giving them gaols to live by or to do in the rp BUT not some thing that gets over done all the time like "Training or becoming the strongest int he village." There is really no fun in that at all you will end up getting bored with all the training your doing. Try really hard to come up with some thing that no one would think of ... like making your village better or getting back the respect of your family .. things like that add more to your character and more to the rp. ^-^
