she doesn't need metal for that. it's called return lightning, and it happens naturally after any strike she causes. the two short swords fuse together at the hilt into a rail gun, the six daggers are ammo, and they are much bigger than a 50 caliber bullet...much bigger. the claymore's main purpose has been shown already.
according to rao she must gather the ions.
also, most lightning is caused because the ground is a different charge than the air, but it can also be different charges in one area of air and another, or areas of the ground. it is more dangerous, according to the wiki on medicine, to be too close to where lightning touches down than to be hit with it, though both are deadly.

the lake water itself is currently so attractive, that no lightning for miles will strike anywhere else, so you are safe, unless she redirects it. though crystal's not being struck yet is surprising.

it must be an amazing view to the spectators though...imagine a machine gun, but millions of times wider, much more luminous, and much more random. this beats any fourth of july. though both Natalia(or her clone depending on what rao does when he gets back) and Arias have both gotten hit. we have both admitted it. if it hit both of us, chances are it's frequent enough to hit Hikaru as well. any electronics in the school will also be effected by the E.M.P. effects.

it helps to not think you are better than everyone elses powers.
it shall be fun though. one of the listed possible symptoms of a lightning strike is partial to full amnesia and residual memory issues.
