hollywood_addict Wow, that's crazy! How do restaurant owners get away with not really paying their workers minimum wage? What would happen if the waiter/waitress got no tips? Because if waitstaff got paid wages equal to the work they do, you would be paying a lot more for your food... Also, this is something that has been in place for a long time, and probably isn't changing anytime soon. Better yet, there's these pricks out there who instead of tips leave these little business card pamphlets telling you that they don't believe in the tip system and that they're leaving this as a protest against the unfairness you're being subjected to... and try to tell you that they are gypping you for your own good...Jackasses.

hollywood_addict Streamjumper Dr. Fomite Work was awful yesterday. gonk Slow in the morning, and insanely busy in the afternoon. We were totally overbooked and since I was alone, there was no way to cover the slack. Had way too many patients with big problems, new work ups, and people who wanted a lot of things done. sweatdrop I'm really hoping today goes better. As for tipping jobs... Stream mentioned a bunch... Bartending is another really good one if you can get it. Tends to pay off quite well in the tips. I hope your day today goes a hell of a lot better too. An overworked Mala is not a truly happy Mala. I didn't mention bartending because it isn't exactly your average entry-level position, and in many states you need to be at least 21 to do it, which I'm not sure if Hollywood is. But the tips are incredible. So do you bartend? I'm going to turn 21 in June... do they pay minimum wage + tips or do they reduce the salary to account for them? My step-brother owns a bar, which could be interesting in a few years... any idea if they have rules for harassment regarding customers? I always wondered at the things one must learn to work there? I have tended bar... the place I was at did minimum wage and tips. As far as harassment, I never had any problems since I have a pretty sharp tongue and can mess right back with em.

Well, true.. but still. One out of every ten could make sense, just for a change of pace. And it was a giant ice fort, not a building.

hollywood_addict Wow, that's crazy! How do restaurant owners get away with not really paying their workers minimum wage? What would happen if the waiter/waitress got no tips? Actually, if our combined wages and tips don't equal out to at least minimum wage, the restaurant has to make up the difference in our paychecks. In most restaurants and bars I've either worked in or went to, bartenders make a higher wage than servers, but still less than minimum wage. For example, in my restaurant: Servers = $2.63 + tips Bartenders = $4.50 + tips Minimum wage for servers varies from state to state. Florida servers make $1.75 + tips. I think Connecticut servers make $4.50 - $5.00 an hour. I should work in CT, but paying taxes in two states sucks.

Shoujo Phoenix Neuroscience involves studying the brain, basically. My favorite part of psychology happens to be biopsychology (basically studying how the brain biology has an effect on psychological states)...which is why I chose to persue neuroscience. 4laugh And thanks. I remember studying Neuropsych in my Intro to Psych class, but my strengths were always more towards the counseling aspect of psychology. I didn't know you were studying psych. I got my BA back in 2001. If you need any help, let me know.

My cats caught a mouse right outside of his room this morning. My Mother was so pissed, she spent most of the morning yelling at him--which is why I am up and EIGHTFREAKINTHIRTY.
